During his first court appearance, Nichols’ situation worsened significantly after prosecutors added a fifth felony charge to his case.
The charge includes annoying or m*lesting a child under 18, linked to a separate incident that reportedly took place just days before the home invasion, per TMZ.
Because of the new charge and concerns about public safety, the judge increased his bail from $35,000 to $250,000.

Deputy District Attorney Steven Tali explained the reasoning behind the decision, telling the court, “He made threats saying ‘I’m going to k*ll you’… Given the threats and where he lives, there is no other way to safeguard the victims in this case.”
Initially, Nichols was charged with four felonies– first-degree burglary, a*sault with a d*adly weapon, criminal threats, and vandalism.

However, the newly added fifth charge was added after police alleged a witness came forward after the viral video surfaced, reporting an earlier encounter involving Nichols and their child.
Authorities also noted that Nichols’ behavior, both during the incident and in court, has added to concerns about his mental state and potential risk.
The court approved a criminal protective order to keep Nichols away from the victim’s family.

Reports further noted that he lives directly behind them, raising concerns about immediate risk if released.
Meanwhile, observers pointed out his behavior during the hearing, with video showing him smiling and rolling his eyes as the charges were read.
The harsh court hearing came after Nichols was captured in doorbell camera footage approaching a home

As reported by Bored Panda, the case first went viral after Ring doorbell footage captured Nichols aggressively approaching a home in Fairfield, California, on April 7.
In the video, he was seen wearing a long coat and shouting erratically while pounding on the door.
“My name is Harry Dresden, motherf**ker!” he yelled, referencing a fictional character, while claiming the street was “my neighborhood.”

He repeatedly demanded, “Where is your daughter?” and threatened to “f**king end” the resident if the door was not opened.
Nichols then allegedly kicked the door and used a detached doorbell device to strike it multiple times before eventually gaining access through a sliding door.
At the time, a pregnant woman and a 5-year-old child were inside the home, making the situation even more alarming.

As the incident unfolded, the homeowner’s husband was reportedly watching it all on a security camera while away from the house. He rushed back immediately after seeing what was happening.
Once there, he confronted Nichols using a shovel, leading to a violent struggle between the two. Both men reportedly suffered head injuries during the confrontation.
Police arrived within minutes and found Nichols outside the home, where he was taken into custody. He was later treated at a hospital before being formally booked on multiple charges.
As of now, Nichols remains in custody at Solano County Jail due to the increased bail. If convicted on all charges, he could face several years in prison, with estimates ranging from two years to nearly two decades, depending on how the sentences are applied.
