“People Need To Learn Gratitude”: Social Media User’s “Day In The Life Of A Middle-Class Man” Goes Viral
A TikTok video posted by user @hubs.life, titled A Day in the Life of a Middle-Class Man, has sparked mixed opinions online by showcasing a worker’s seemingly uncomplicated routine.
The clip, captioned “Each day is by itself a life,” shows a 29-year-old man from the moment he takes his morning shower until he finishes his day at his “happy place,” a fast-food drive-through.
- A TikTok video about a middle-class man's routine has divided the internet.
- The video shows a day of regular activities, including work at an insurance company and fast food lunches.
- It has garnered over 35 million views, sparking discussions about the value of a simple, structured life.
The man starts his day by putting on his formal work clothes, preparing a shake, packing his laptop, and commuting to the office by car after making a pit stop at a donut shop.
After a 10-minute drive, he reaches his workplace—a Fortune 500 insurance company—at 7:45 AM. There, @hubs.life works on his laptop for about two hours before it’s time for his lunch break at Chili’s, where he treats himself to some sliders with fries.

From 12 to 1 PM, he joins his co-workers for a company picnic at an outdoor space near his office, and then he goes back to work on his computer until 4 PM.
On the way home, he stops at a pet store to buy food for his dog, Benny. After entering his house, he trades his formal attire for comfortable clothes, takes his dog to the park, and goes to a drive-through.
TikTok included a warning in the video: “Participating in this activity could result in you or others getting hurt.”
Posted on Friday (April 19), it has since been reshared on X (formerly known as Twitter), receiving over 35 million views.
“This is basically selling your soul, it’s so pointless,” X user Denzel22 captioned the clip.

People quickly took to the comments to share their thoughts on the man’s lifestyle. While some expressed that they aspired to have such a seemingly simple routine, others believed the Texas resident’s life to be rather tedious.
“It’s the monotony of life, not what he has. Living to work is not a way to go through life,” an X user commented.
A separate person pointed to his unhealthy diet, writing, “Call me a normie, but his diet is way more depressing than the whole 9-5 thing.”
“Chilis and fast food, sedentary lifestyle sitting at a desk, and I didn’t see a workout on this day in the life…how is this guy not overweight?” somebody else penned.
However, many social media users praised the senior benefits analyst’s video showcasing his stable routine.
“He lives a comfortable life which he’s built for himself. He loves the life he lives. How is this selling your soul?” someone wrote.
Some social media users said that @hubs.life was “selling his soul” with his lifestyle

“I love this lifestyle. People make it seem like peace and consistency is bad,” a separate person agreed.
An additional X user echoed these thoughts, writing, “If you’re making fun of this guy’s life, you’re beyond privileged. 95% of the world would kill for this security. Educated with a stable income. Comfortable living situation. [N]0 threat of being randomly killed. A lot of people need to learn gratitude.”
“As someone who was raised in a neighborhood where I had to look over my shoulder every 3 minutes, this looks like everything,” someone else shared.
In a separate video, @hubs.life, who often shares content centered around his routine, responded to a follower’s question about whether he would consider leaving his job to pursue a full-time career in social media.
His answer? “I love my 9-5 as it provides health insurance, steady income, 401k, structure, career growth opportunities, etc. I enjoy the people I work with and genuinely like the work that I do.”
People shared their thoughts about the TikToker’s routine
If he’s content then not sure why so many people are hating on him. Is it a wild ride lifestyle? Not in this video (who knows what he gets up to at other times) but many people would love to have the sort of life this guy has. Stable job, sense of security, time to take his buddy to the park.
I don't get it. Why is everyone so worked up over 9-5? We can't all be influencers working 2 hours a week or fashion models or CEOs.
We don't all want to be famous or influencers or important people. I know I don't, never have. Hate the limelight, I have had great exciting jobs which i did without fanfare, and which I enjoyed. Why do people expect others to live the fantasy life THEY want?
Load More Replies...I don't understand the hate. Steady job, nice house... good marriage? What people don't see (as a retired former middle class guy) is the vacations, the bank account/savings account/retirement accounts. The 9-5 may be boring, but it's free evenings and weekends with no need to hussle to survive. I had to retire at 46 and I am going to be comfortable until I die. Better to work to live than live to work.
I had a similar lifestyle for about 25 years. I had the trophy wife, the kids, the stable job, nice car, nice house in a nice village. I was content... and then the trophy wife ran off with the trophy boyfriend. She hired a solicitor (lawyer) and took me for everything I had. I lost custody of my children, lost the house we'd bought together, and after all that I lost my job too. Talk about your kick in the teeth. Oh, I also lost a tooth (unrelated to the divorce). Long story slightly shorter: by sheer chance I met an amazing woman soon after. She sold her small flat in the UK and with the proceeds and my meagre savings we bought a dilapidated mill in France. Now we spend our days rennovating that (5 years and counting - we've just finished the first room!). We grow vegetables, buy milk and eggs from a local farmer, and live very frugally. If I had to choose between going back to my 9-5 behind a desk, or this hard labour... well, no contest. I love my life now.
I once read a thread where someone commented that childhood was like “sitting in a dark closet, holding my knees to my chest, rocking back and forth and crying, hoping the pain would go away.” It got hundreds of “Likes” and was the most highly upvoted comment in that thread. People dunking on someone because he’s working (apparently) 32-35 hours a week, with a stable salary and savings, a dog and a house (at age 29) don’t appreciate that 90% of the world population would give anything for his life.
For all these people who bad mouth this guys life... "What do you do?" What I mean is "what do you Actually do?" Honestly, if it wasn't for people with so called "boring" lifestyles, we wouldn't even have a society. Just a bunch of people taking selfies and trying to promote their basic selves
I'd love to have only a 10 minute drive to work, arrive 0745, take a two-hour lunch break, and clock out at 4. But like most of us, I'm not middle class, I'm working class. There's quite a bit of difference (in the USA), but nobody talks about that much.
It appeared to be a 3 hour lunch break. Got to work at 7:45, worked 2 hours, took a 2 hour lunch then another hour for a company picnic. Who even gets an hour anymore?
Load More Replies...I am 66 YO and have been doing the same job for 47 years, and if I died tomorrow I can say I have lived a great life, great wife and Kids and grand kids and great grand baby; wouldn't trade anything for it, God has really been good to my family and I.
I think so many people are hating on this guy because of jealousy. Sadly, it seems like the social media companies encourage this kind of mentality, since negativity is more profitable and entertaining for them
Definitely UPPER middle-class judging by that epic shower. I wouldn't survive if I could compartmentalize every day into just one though, they're all too different and unpredictable.
Lmfao.. that selling your soul comment. Dimwit is so salty that he didnt like the content but kept watching it. Go touch some grass.
