People On This Group Are Sharing Examples Of ‘Urban Hell’ That Look Like A Dystopian Movie But Are Sadly Real (40 Pics)
Not every building is as beautiful as the Palace of Versailles. Or blends into its surroundings as well as the Macallan Distillery. On the contrary, there are many structures across the world looking like outcasts that will fall apart during the next storm. In some places, they aren't isolated examples, either — even an entire neighborhood can be an abomination. And you can find them on r/UrbanHell.
It's a photography subreddit of "all the hideous places human beings built or inhabit." The online community invites everyone who wants to explore the darker side of the cities, towns, and villages in our shared world and welcomes any photos which show either ugliness, or a problem in urban development. Rural and suburban nightmares are also allowed.
Below you will find a collection of pics that perfectly describe what this subreddit is all about.

The Annual Monsoon Ritual Of Mumbai's Ocean Giving Back What Has Been Dumped In It
If only nature could actually give back all the trash to us, maybe we will see the damage we are doing :(
Hong Kong Street Life
About half of the global population already lives in cities, and by 2050, two-thirds of the world's people are expected to live in urban areas. But as you can see from some of the photos in r/UrbanHell, in cities, two of the most pressing problems facing the world today also come together: poverty and environmental degradation.
Bad urban development isn't just ugly aesthetics. It's also poor air and water quality, insufficient water availability, waste-disposal problems, and high energy consumption, all of which are exacerbated by the increasing population density and demands of urban environments. Strong city planning is essential in managing these and other difficulties as the world's urban areas grow.

Some of the biggest problems caused by urbanization are:
- Intensive urban growth can lead to greater poverty, with local governments unable to provide services for all people;
- Concentrated energy use. It leads to greater air pollution with a significant impact on human health;
- Automobile exhaust produces elevated lead levels in urban air;
- Large volumes of uncollected waste create multiple health hazards;
- Urban development can magnify the risk of environmental hazards such as flash flooding;
- Pollution and physical barriers to root growth promote loss of urban tree cover;
- Animal populations are inhibited by toxic substances, vehicles, and the loss of habitat and food sources.

Solutions might include:
- Combat poverty by promoting economic development and job creation;
- Involve local community in local government;
- Reduce air pollution by upgrading energy use and alternative transport systems;
- Create private-public partnerships to provide services such as waste disposal and housing;
- Plant trees and incorporate the care of city green spaces as a key element in urban planning.
Ultimately, cities can bring us obstacles and opportunities as well as freedom and captivity, and it's up to us to get the most out of them.

Its not a nuclear cooling tower. It is for a heating, electric and hotwater generating plant ( TETS in Russian) most are coal or gas powered and that is for releasing steam.

The water waste hurts. Why do you want lawns in a desert? If you want green lawns, move to England (no offense, England. You have the rainfall, is all.)

Blame your government’s. This is their fault . They buy rubbish from countries and do not dispose of it correctly.

16-Lane Highway Built Through The Downtown Where A Market Square Used To Be In Moscow, Russia
Again context is great. This was done to facilitate troop movements quickly in and out of the capital which proved vital in WWII as the soldiers from Siberia crossed Red Square in the May Day parades and went straight to the front lines to repel the Nazis. The French similarly built huge boulevards in Paris to facilitate troop movements and to keep people from being able to build barricades, which is a French national tradition.

We urgently need to take better care of our planet.... Birth control and a ban on plastic sound like a good start
May the gods in all their wisdom give you no children but many attempts at making them :,-)
Aww, that is kind of cute. LOL. I love that you support responsible and fun population control. LOL.
Stop threatening her with good things! 😏
Sounds like a good deal to me...
Children are so inconvenient.
That's so nice! 😅

There are no gods and thank you, I'm not stupid enough to breed. Nobody needs more kids anyway. This planet is heavily overpopulated.
You don’t need to argue about everything, people believe what they wanna believe and right now you’re being the Karen that tries to force religion. Grow up
i concur. the best thing you can do for this planet is not have kids. don't replace ourselves. earth doesn't need 7 billion of us
Do you think Africa and the Arab countries will listen to this?
What a silly boy! There's only 1 African or Arab country in the top ten most populous countries in the world. What a silly little racist boy!
How is he racist?
Why should they? Your Western world are the cause of most environmental issues, such as single use plastic, spray cans, fast fashion to name but a few. I bet you're all for eugenics?
Umm. Absolutely not. They have been able to trace the plastics and trash floating around the oceans as coming from 7 rivers and 6 of them are in Asia and Africa, and one in South America. So, we need to get Asia and Africa on board with lowering emissions and plastics.
That because western countries send their rubbish over to these countries to be sorted.
Not to mention outsourcing most of the world's manufacturing to Asia.
So you're posting your idiocy via smoke signals?
Yes, I support most of principles of eugenics. What's your point?
imagine supporting eugenics.
No, I cant. Goes to show that some people lack intellect.
nah, "MADE IN CHINA"
To add to Max Tyler: MADE IN CHINA by slaves getting paid $3 an hour or less to make things for companies around the world.
People MUST KNOW that the slaves you speak of are12 yrs old and under,
What an idiot
Birth rates are falling all over the world.. better packaging is something to work on!
i wish more people realized this. sadly, the real culprits of most of our pollution have planted these ideas in our communities. it’s OUR fault and OUR responsibility to clean up THEIR mess. such b******t
The problem isn't people having babies, it's people wanting loads of possessions and plastic s**t too. Buying the latest phone, wanting disposable clothes, eating meat twice a day every day. The western countries have the least children yet consume most of the resources and then want to tell other countries don't have kids or want the things we have because of the planet which is a piss take. Aka the dear pot love kettle syndrome
Agrees. Factory livestock farming takes up ton of land and resources just to feed the stuff we're going to eat. People are starving and we could use some of the food we're feeding to animals we're over feeding. I haven't made the jump to veganism, but eat no dairy and eggs and meat once a day to every other I think
No one WANTS disposable clothes, they're just the only things available. No one makes anything to last.
Good point! Again.. MADE IN CHINA= CHEAP !
and even then, most of us don’t want this particular wasteful stuff. companies mass produce what’s cheap and easy. we don’t have a lot of say in what we get to consume, unless we have the money.
Or. and this is a novel idea I know. It's both. A bunch of idiots having kids they had no business making. and some amount of polution= "the f*****g planet is on fire m***********s!"
7 months later: YES!. One of my college roommates gives me s**t because I'd prefer to adopt! This person goes: oh don't want a kid of your own wahw wahwah wah. I say, no I want to adopt when the right person comes along. I'm already leary of driving and wonder why car share programs aren't mandated+ free. The US spends an ungodly amount on blowing things up. cut the useless c***s er senate and congresses salaries to 80k a year, the remainder plowed into giving everyone free uber or what ever, and pay for insta cart. Poof less cars on the road!
I'm sure there are about 8 billion different ideas of what makes the world "better." I wonder if no babies or plastic would stop gangs, abuse, drugs, human trafficking, etc? 🤔
Warfare and militarism have a much larger impact than most people realize. Defoliants and deforestation, land mines, unexploded munitions, chemical use, garbage of many types, destruction of critical infrastructure, etc. resulting from the preparation for and acts of war leave impacts that drive people to cities. Rural life becomes inhospitable for millions of people.
Ok then...start with all of your devices. That'll be your contribution to ridding the planet of that evil plastic.
There's too many slobs on this planet so let's just keep multiplying and make everything out of plastic
Excuse me Sir, you forgot LAZY. Didn't you mean LAZY SLOBS ? (am I right?)
Actually the planet doesn’t have too many humans. What it has is too many humans congregating in small areas. Urban settings draw huge numbers of ppl for work. There is ample land to handle the human population but most ppl don’t want to live where there nothing “happening.” And with too many ppl cramped into small spaces, trash & garbage overwhelm the ability to properly dispose of it. Also, if humans would thin out more, it would also cut down on air pollution because there would be less traffic & other pollutants that large numbers of ppl cause. We should stop using plastic & support companies that use less or none at all.
Wish I could upvote this again! The only thing I can add is let’s all try to be empathetic, kinder, and more respectful to our earth and fellow creatures! Mothe earth is tired of being abused and overpopulated!!
You are pro Eugenics then? Don't let the poor have kids. You and Hitler would have gotten along. As if the poor don't love their children.
