50 Times People Found Unexpectedly Wholesome Posts On The Internet Where Strangers Had Each Other’s Backs (New Pics)
You know, Pandas, it’s really way too easy to focus just on the negatives. In fact, we’re hard-wired for that. It’s called negativity bias and it means that we dwell on the awful things that have happened to us more than the awesome ones. So with all the news about just how bad things are looking recently, you’d be perfectly right to be anxious and upset. However, we shouldn’t forget that, at the same time, life’s full of beauty, wonder, and wholesomeness. Albus Dumbledore told us that happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, but we have to remember to turn on the light. Well, let’s turn that light on, shall we?
Today, we’re featuring the best posts from the r/gatesopencomeonin subreddit, a 356k-member-strong community that celebrates people acting excellent and being wholesome to each other. It’s the kind of stuff that really restores part of your hope in humanity. And it’s a reminder that we have to strive to be altruistic and kind, especially when things are looking tough.
Upvote your fave pics as you’re scrolling down, Pandas. And tell us all about the nicest thing you’ve done for someone recently, in the comments. Meanwhile, check out Bored Panda’s interview about how to live a happy and healthy life, as well as how to be nice to others when we don’t feel like it, with writer Ariane Sherine, the author of ‘How to Live to 100’ and ‘Talk Yourself Better.’
Oh, and if you’d like some more proof that people totally have the potential to be awesome, take a peek at our earlier articles about the ‘Gates Open, Come On In’ community here: Part 1 and Part 2.

I Needed To Hear This. I'm So Tired
I don't understand the need to compete about everything like whose more tired, whose back hurts more etc. Everyone is different and so us how we deal with things.
I had a family member do that to me. No matter what medical issue I deal with they've had it so much worse than me. I just shake my head and say really with a look of surprise. Then I tell them I'll pray they get better...
Load More Replies...All these parents trying to own tired gets me bad. You chose to raise children and now the world owes you enough sympathy to put you on a special pedestal above everyone else. Only disclaimer is yes I do feel sympathy for parents, especially single parents who actually had no choice in their circumstance. It's just that I'm an equal opportunity empath, I feel just as much sympathy for everyone else struggling out there.
While I do agree that parents don't "own" tiredness, it's an equally unsympathetic view to say "you chose to raise children" like everyone who has children knew what they were getting into - or, for that matter, chose that way. My husband and I, for example, chose to have a child - then came our twins, and then came his sleep apnoea that basically turned me into a single mother even while my husband was around. He couldn't stay awake during anything, he once almost dropped one of our girls at 4mo because he fell asleep. Did I know motherhood would be hard? Yes. Did I think I wouldn't get more than 3 hours sleep in one go for almost a year? No. It's better now, but I still get mad at people seemingly thinking parents sign a contract with all footnotes attached. Maybe that's not what you meant, but the sentiment is widespread.
Load More Replies...Meanwhile, certain rich people are complaining about the "underpopulation problem" because the working class doesn't have the time nor resources to re-populate. Maybe turn up that trickle in the trickle down theory and allow everyone some more of that luxurious free time like most civilized countries? (Although, fewer humans = less consumption of earth's rescources and less polution...)
At nearly 8 billion, there is no way we are underpopulated. The only reason the rich say we are is because they want large generations of future workers to exploit so they may be able to continue hoarding wealth.
Load More Replies...Well everyone can be tired but I’d really like people to recognise that exhaustion is totally different, and for people with actual exhaustion (as a medical condition, often tied to another chronic illness) it’s not anything like a normal person being tired. The body is broken and cannot function, whereas tiredness is normal and manageable. So please don’t equate the general idea of being tired with someone who has exhaustion. It’s an entirely different kettle of fish, and anyone with exhaustion would *love* to be tired instead.
So very true. I really would love to just be tired instead of exhausted all day, every day.
Load More Replies...Yes! I'm actually extremely tired of people being called lazy or they haven't done enough to be exhausted. Or thinking because someone doesn't have a paying job they are lazy or don't do anything. It's total b******t how we've been convinced that our worth as humans is based on productivity or how much they work. As if those of us who don't have a paying job are not doing anything productive. Yes we are, we all are! Just existing takes maintenance and effort on a daily basis. From getting up to brush your hair, using bathroom, the upkeep of your house, yard, car, kids, pets, and selfcare is enough to begin with. No one gets away with doing nothing if they are living and breathing. Sometimes just breathing and the mental load is hard. That's not even including a job that takes the majority of our precious time. So please stop with the b******t about anyone being lazy or not wanting to do anything productive. We all already do and I'm f*****g exhausted dealing with people who think just wanting to exist and just be, is somehow wrong. No it's not! Our negative conditioned mind on our worth as humans is what's wrong. We deserve to exist and live our lives how comfortably we see fit. It's not supposed to be uncomfortable and hard no matter who tries to convince you otherwise.
I have MS, so I'm fatigued A LOT, and I think people, even those who are supportive, secretly think I'm kinda lazy. I probably am.
They probably do. I have CFS amongst others and I am really weak. For me anything i do is like 2-10 times harder than it used to be when i was healthy. But even my loved ones avt as if them working 8h is comparable to our fatigue. Not it is not. I used to have a very physical job, be 8h there and have energy to go out or cycle to the store. Now driving to the vet with my well behaved dog takes me 2 days to recover. Its like if 8h working for us would be 24h working non stop. Then we can start comparing.

Agreed! When I was a little girl, I HATED the “girl” toys and wanted Transformers, GI Joes, Hot Wheels… my mom soon realized she had not adopted a malleable blank slate and started neglecting and abusing me. Luckily my dad was awesome, and my mom had my older sister (their bio child and VERY frilly-girly) to focus on. So my dad got me all the awesome toys I wanted and my sister got all the Barbies ;)
Load More Replies...Why do I just picture myself "operating" a toy excavator with my junk? Seems unnecessarily complicated....
Probably needs a safety warning too. I can just picture the potential lawsuits.
Load More Replies...I had a woman in a shop "warn" me that the pink bunny was also available when I was buying a dinosaur toy for a baby girl. I proceeded to tell her about the discussion I have with my grandson when he mentions a "girl toy." I always ask him if the toy has a vagina. Yeah, no. Toys don't have a sex.
I had a similar situation when buying Hot Wheels and Monster Trucks for my daughter.
Load More Replies...My grandson has a pink Barbie mustang that he drives up and down here . He doesn't even recognize that some people think it's girls. Screw that.
I personally like girly things and certain colors and I can reassure you it has nothing to do with genitals. Any color or thing can be for anyone who likes it. Basing it only on what's between our legs is just insane to me. I honestly don't know how or who started that c**p. But we are definitely able to be better than that and thinking that way.
A Surprise Happy Ending?
Nice exchange between nice people that tries to understand each other. Should be more of these on the Internet.
I agree. So often someone asks a question or is confused and they get abusive replies in return. So this exchange is nice to see.
Load More Replies...Yes! This is exactly how we should approach this. At this point, internet trolls are like that loud vocal minority that make it seem like there are more of them than there actually are. Most people just want to learn - no-one knows everything about everything, and memes and satire skate so close to reality it can genuinely be hard to tell the difference. The benefit of the doubt can sometimes be the kindest thing you can give an internet stranger.
He also transitions in the Umbrella Academy (my favorite show on Netflix) and everyone's SO ACCEPTING AND IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY
luther's reaction tho when hes like what else did i miss??
Load More Replies...This right here is the approach needed. Just because someone doesn´t understand something it doesn´t mean they aren´t willing to learn. At least in most cases.
I've entered into a couple of exchanges that I hoped would end like this, but sadly the other commenter turned out to be acting in bad faith. I still try, though.
Thank you. I'm usually the one asking in good faith for an answer, and 90% of the time I get the s**t response. I love learning new things, and the only way to learn, is by asking. (googling is so impersonal, and may end up with the wrong answer anyway)
Load More Replies...The ‘Gates Open, Come On In’ subreddit has been delighting redditors (and more!) around the globe since early 2018. In the 4+ years since being founded, it’s carved out a niche of wholesomeness, hope, and good vibes by being the polar opposite of r/gatekeeping.
They only have two rules: there’s no gatekeeping allowed and you have to be nice. That’s it. Really. It’s a pretty straightforward recommendation for living a good life, isn’t it? Besides, it’s refreshing when you focus on the positives for a change, isn’t it?
Better Late Than Never
The last sentence explains it perfectly. Although there is an expiration date and that is death.
Don't compare your life's chapter three to another person's chapter 15.
My best friend went back after 20 years and was very proud, as anyone should be!! He did meet his expiration only a few weeks after from a sudden quick moving cancer that killed him 2 weeks after diagnosis. But guess what? That didn't take away the pride he felt in his accomplishment, the energy of the challenge, or the new friendships he made when he went back to school! Even if you don't graduate, be glad for the knowledge you gain and the experiences you go through, because THOSE are life!!
I went back after 40 years, and found my age had real advantages.
Load More Replies...The last sentence! just 30 minutes after I accidentally sniffed expired milk
"Sniffed expired milk" 😳 That's a ... interesting way to get high.
Load More Replies...Even though I had the grades, college was out of my reach at 18. I had to leave home, go to work, and pay rent and bills. At 51, I experienced my 3rd layoff, but this time I took advantage of programs Unemployment was offering, including paying for my Associates degree. I didn’t stop there’s and got my Masters at 58. I DID IT! Top of my class the whole way, doing better than people half my age or less, so don’t anyone DARE tell me older people cannot learn anything new! It’s never too late to get that education.
Kathryn, may I ask what you got your degree in? I got my associate degree fairly young, but then life happened. I needed to work, etc., and have been raising a son for the last 17 years. At 53, with no degree and no recent work history, my options are not great. So I was thinking of going back to school. Just not sure what to do with myself. Anyway, thanks for listening!
Load More Replies...I'm on year 17 of university! Took the job offer when I got it, lost a ton of my credits, kept working, several promotions later, a wife, and two kids, life comes fast but I'll still get that paper!

Remember, Everyone Has A Purpose
As someone who once worked in payroll, if you want to make money go into waste removal. If you want an interesting job go into any science or engineering field.
I work in a clinical waste treatment plant and have never had such a great paying job
Load More Replies...You do what you have to when it comes to supporting yourself and your family and shouldn’t be shamed for it
Amen to that. I'm well educated and I've worked every type of job from janitor up to virologist. At present I'm a truck driver...
Load More Replies...Jobs like janitors, trash collection, etc should be more appreciated! That work is hard and probably not the funnest thing to do. The least we can do is pay them more
This meme makes an interesting point that isn't discussed enough: That your work situation is always temporary. Even if you have a high paying executive job, you could be laid off or fired at any point. Tying your self worth to your job is unhealthy.
This is so true. Even if you’re certain you’ll always have or get a particular job, one day you could be struck down with illness and never be able to work again despite still being capable. You can lose all of that in a heartbeat, so instead work on your insides and who you are (not job titles or status).
Load More Replies...I would also add that waste management professionals are at the forefront of solving one of our most pressing ecological crises right now.
Careful there, woman in blue. It's no longer just English and Philosophy majors who do street cleaning work. There are now some MBA's among them, too.
This is a sticking point for some. We want to encourage students to reach for their goals. I always tell them it is always better if you are in a job or profession you want to be in.
Some of the friendliest people I've met were janitors. If it weren't for them, we'd be knee deep in garbage thanks to the assholes that think they can throw garbage anywhere they please. Janitors are everyday heros in my book. ESPECIALLY the ones that get chewed gum off benches! I wish our society rewarded people based on what good they are doing for society. Too bad we are so backwards.

It goes the other way too, my colleague used to join me for a coffee break during Ramadan with an empty mug in his hand. He didn't want me to be lonely since I didn't have friends at work.

(Probably) everyone wants to live a happy, healthy, and fulfilling life. But it’s a hard thing to do in practice, especially when you’re bound by doubt, anxiety, and fear. Bored Panda reached out to author Ariane, who has written about health and happiness, to understand what contributes to our satisfaction with life the most. Really, it’s mostly about altruism and having a tight-knit social circle (among a few other things).
“Close, fulfilling relationships with others are one of the most important things when it comes to happiness, whether romantic or platonic. Studies show that the more close friendships and relationships you have, the longer you live,” Ariane shared with Bored Panda. “Volunteering and helping others are also likely to make you happy.”
Be Free To Like Things
Me: yeah, I'm really into real ales and metal music. Rando: oh really? What year was the first IPA sold internationally and what blood type is James Hatfield?
I hate gatekeeping. And I get really snarky when people tr to do that to me.
I love video games and comics. I also happen to be 39 and a female. I used to always get cráp about not "really" being into comics because I had no clue what else writer's did or because I wasn't big into DC or Marvel. Sorry I like independents and go by story rather than writer. I wasn't a "real" gamer because I don't play first person shooters; nevermind the 130 hours I logged playing Final Fantasy (sidequests really eat time) or the fact that I have 100% completed some games (I get ocd sometimes and must collecteverything). Its always been really annoying. Oh and don't get me started with the psycho anime fans; I'm not a "real" fan because I don't want with subtitles; I prefer dubs so I can actually watch and not read (I have manga for reading)
Kindda related, I love Ramones t-shirts, love their logo and look very cool, but I only like 2 songs so don't feel entitled tu use one. Think the next time I see one i'm gonna buy it. Thanks for the inspiration Trillian.
Load More Replies...I like songs from artists that should be or are in jail, I like songs with distasteful lyrics. I like the song for the beat, tempo, melody etc. If I like it, I like it.
I’m 61, and have been a lifelong Beatles fan. But don’t ask me specifics about each song, album, or band member. I know some stuff and I’m always open to learning new stuff, but I’m no expert about the band. I just like them and their music. That’s enough for me.
One Letter Makes All The Difference!
A co-worker had to get drunk to tell me her son came out to her. I gave her a hug and told her he's the same kid he always was, except now he knows he can trust her with some of his most personal information and she should love him just the same as always.

Load More Replies...As a young child, I’ve always been fascinated with carpentry, would watch tv shows with my dad, we would watch bob vila together, I would get nervous and wonder “what would happen if that interest just disappeared from people altogether, will we not have hand made chairs/tables/dressers anymore “ sorry it was just a thought, RIP Dad I miss you every day
We might do without hand made chairs, but how about going without electricians?

Other things that play an important role in our overall happiness include being fit, having a fulfilling career, and not focusing on the material side of things too much.
“There are other things that contribute to happiness and well-being including taking regular exercise, eating healthily, having enough money to feel comfortable, having job security, and enjoying experiences rather than possessions,” the writer explained.

Just Let Them Be They
I wish a real new pronoun would be invented, though. The 'they' doesnt work at all in my language. She and they are the same word. And when I coe across it in an Englsih text, I am just confused tring to figure out what anybody wants. I feel, new words are needed for new times.
In my mother tongue (Finnish) we call everyone with one pronoun, our whole language is non-gendered so no he or she either. And interestingly, most often we call people "it" 😁.

It’s easy to be kind to someone when we’re feeling great, the sun’s shining, and it’s like we’re on top of the world. It’s far harder when we’re miserable, exhausted, and feeling down. Bored Panda wanted to get Ariane’s advice on how to be nice to someone when we’re down in the dumps and overwhelmed with problems.
Unexpected Coming Out Story
This is how we should handle kids coming out as trans. Don't make such a big deal of it, it's just a part of who they are.
So wholesome, just completely ignore things that are, in some way, not really worth mentioning <3
when my daughter came out as pansexual, I told her to stay the hell out of my kitchen. We laughed and she knew everything was going to be the same
Ok the fact papa here transitioned the pronouns mid tweet is very sweet
Never Walk Without A Bro
This one hits me like the kid with cancer that had to sell lemonade and baked goods to pay for his treatment (which is free here in Canada). Lovely to see, but awful that there's a need for it.
Reminds me of the BACA. (Bikers Against Child Abuse). They're a bunch of tough guys who escort children to confront their abusers in court.
We have been lucky enough to meet some BACA members and they are the kindest souls! They gave my littles all temp tattoos and my youngest was lifted onto a motorbike; he loved it!
Load More Replies...My university had something like this. Sorority and Fraternity members would volunteer to walk in mixed gender pairs with anyone who didn’t want to walk home. Was a huge comfort!

Grandmas Are Always A Bastion Of Wholesomeness
I joke with trans students when they come out to me. I tell them I have a policy of one name change. After that, I get to give you a ridiculous nickname. (I teach over 500 students a week, and the students laugh as they know I am kidding.) I love them and will call them what they want to be called. Period.
My transgender son sadly never was able to tell my mom that he is a boy. She would have responded like this. But she died. He's left with the other grandmother, who insists on using his deadname and blame me for him being transgender. Guess who haven't seen her grandchild for several years?
I am so sorry, but glad that your son has a parent who loves, protects and supports him.

“It's worth remembering that being kind to others can also lift you up too. In fact, the easiest way to take your mind off your own problems is to help someone else with theirs,” she said.
“But if you're feeling really lethargic and low, the best thing is probably to sleep, or at least rest,” the author pointed out that there’s nothing wrong with getting some well-deserved rest. Getting some proper sleep is a piece of advice that really deserves more attention than it gets.
Wear Whatever Makes You Happy!
So many schoolboys protesting their school's dresscode by wearing skirts (not allowed to wear shorts in the heat). Why not just keep the skirt? They are amazingly comfortable in the summer :)
I'll be revoltingly honest (sorry) but when it is very hot and your thighs are sweaty skirts are not really that comfortable - hate that sliding, slippy sensation. I'd rather wear shorts at that point.
Load More Replies...My nephew has female cousins, they're between age 4 and 8, and if the girls want to dress up and play mermaids or princesses, he likes the yellow dress and has his own mermaid tail. He loves rainbow and pink and if he were to ask for a skirt then we'd buy it. Clothes are meant to cover you not to display gender
Where do people get the idea it's somehow gendered to wear a skirt? Kilts, robes, tunics, togas, etc have existed throughout history, all around the world.
Some of the world's most fearsome warriors have worn skirts
Load More Replies...I have a shirt that looks like a "woman's" shirt. All smooth, like a dry fit sweat absorbing material. I don't wear it. I should, I think I'm the only one with a shirt like that around. Got it from Alaska, with Cannabaska on it. The logo is a moose with droopy eyes. Enough of the sexism, I will definitely sport it tomorrow. I just hope that my closed minded coworkers do not blow a fuse since it markets a marijuana dispensary!
Joe, I wore a sweater to work my daughter gave me for Christmas. It wasn't very masculine but so what? It was warm. Anyway, one of the guys asked, "Where'd you get that sweater?". I answered, "Your Mom left it on my bedroom floor last night." -Childish, I know, but it ended the questions.
Load More Replies...I bought my first pair of mens shorts a couple weeks ago. I love them! Except now my husband borrows them...lol
Pay back time for borrowing his hoodie perhaps?
Load More Replies...I've tried wearing women's jeans, and some of them just really don't work for male genitalia. Other than that, though, I agree!
Exactly! It's the peak day of the heat wave today. I walked my dog at 7am wearing a thin, floating, light dress. I passed men in shorts with thick waist bands and their tee shirts tucked in, and just thought how absolutely ridiculous it was that they 'couldn't' wear a similar garment to me. I wouldn't call them little b***hs because a) I don't use misogynistic language but mainly b) because it is the whole of society that has trained them for fifty or more years that wearing a dress would make them laughable (and they *would* meet with constant reactions). I just wish there was a way as a whole society to move this stuff on.

I Love Sharing My Book Collection
It doesn’t matter if you read classic literature, crime fiction, graphic novels or young adult stories…reading what you enjoy is the whole point.
Is it still reading if I like picture books?
Load More Replies...I usually, playfully say: "ooh i'm so jeleaous, i wish i could read/watch that again for the first time!".
I do too. Not as a strategy, but because it's true.
Load More Replies...I have never read most classic books ie Anne of Green gables, to kill a mockingbird, little women, 1984, pride and prejudice, Moby d**k, war and peace etc. I don't care if people try shame me for it, doesn't mean I'm gonna read them. I have tried reading a few classic style books and found them too hard to read. It's like I need a dictionary beside me to understand the old language used. Not my cup of tea. Worst book I ever read was The thorn birds which is an Australian classic. I will pass thanks.
1984, tried to read that a couple of times, could not get into it, then one day tried again, and I read it, enjoyed it and is now one of my favourite books. Sometimes you have to be the right mood, level of being awake, etc etc. Honestly, I recommend it. Also To Kill a Mockingbird, I cannot tell you how good this book is.
Load More Replies...It shouldn't matter what it is you're reading, so long as you're reading. Literacy rates would skyrocket if we put the time into figuring out what interests kids to read about instead of forcing them to read "classic literature" in school.
Honestly, i think you are correct. I loved to read when i was a kid, but all the assigned books were depressing, stressful, and boring at the same time. They'd have us read things like Scarlet Ibis, Where the Red Fern Grows, Animal Farm (twice! 😠), Farenhight 451, etc... all doom and gloom. How is a society supposed to get better when all they present us with is doom and gloom? (And for entertainment it's all sex and violence.)
Load More Replies...Oh I am always excited when someone tells me they're getting into something I love! It's hard to resist the urge to spoil things sometimes...
I love humorous fantasies like Disk World series by Sir Terry Pratchett, Hitchhikers guide to the universe, Myth series by Robert Aspirin, etc...
Ohh I absolutely love literature. I've also turned my grand daughter on to several classics. Amistad, she loved. Moby D**k..She walked into the house with a "Call Me Ishmael!" salute to me. I can say we've bonded. She loves to quiz me on history. Which she replies, how do you know so much? READ! There's a whole other world waiting for you and you're always welcome!
I think this should apply to "classic" movies as well! I have a friend who is in her 50's and just saw Footloose for the first time!
Right! I am a pretty well educated person, holding a graduate degree, but I like to unwind and read all kinds of things, even graphic novels.
We were also curious about how people can control their anxiety better, especially if they’re worried about the economy, the war, and the pandemic. Ariane shared some of her thoughts about becoming more resilient during tough times. The important thing here is to control what you can and to let go of what you can’t affect.
“It's a matter of doing what you can to make your own situation better, and then accepting that you can't control everything,” she said. “You can never control everything, and trying will make you even more anxious. But you can control certain things to reduce your risk.”
On A Cathedral Door
As a Christian, I agree. From what I remember, gatekeeping and judging isn't our job, that's for the big guy at the end of the road, most we can do is be faithful and help along the way.
Load More Replies...This fills my heart with joy and I’m not religious at all but would love to visit the cathedral.
That's the thing, you don't have to be religious to want to join somewhere you are welcomed and made to feel like you belong. All churches should be making people feel that way. When I moved house when I was a child, we tried out a few churches, and there were some where we just didn't get the sense we were welcome. The one we settled on (which happened to be the one my grandparents went to) we stayed because, despite no other young families there, we were welcomed with open arms.
Load More Replies...this is the kind of christian i’m proud to say i am 🥰 i will love you whether you’re a baby christian, atheist, muslim, jewish, follow a different religion, or you are traumatized by religion as a whole. it doesn’t matter to me, this world needs kindness! (edited for spelling)
You are the kind of Christian all Christians should be!
Load More Replies...If I felt this welcomed and unjudged, I'd probably be in church every Sunday.
You should be welcomed. It saddens me that so many churches don't present themselves that way. Jesus taught people they were all welcome with him and we should do the same. I don't want to assume anything, but did you ever try out different denominations? I know a lot of the big churches, while saying the opposite, can be fairly cold to newcomers. My family had to 'shop around' a few churches and denominations when we moved to a new area and some just didn't make us feel at home.
Load More Replies...I hope you don't mind me getting serious for a moment Shelli, because I know it was a joke, and it did actually make be smile, but this is something that's been on my mind a lot in recent years. I'm sure the majority of people online would say it's not okay to be hateful, but then there always seams to be an exception to that rule that people will jump all over without a second thought. Think for example about how, rather than addressing the issues and having a constructive conversation about mental illness, so many will call Trump hateful names. Or rather than discuss the best way to pull people out of hate groups and change their minds, you get a lot of 'I hope they die' type of comments. Or think of cancel culture. Someone makes one regrettable mistake, and they're done in the public's eye, with no chance of redemption. The internet seems to breed this kind of de-humanizing mob mentality, and I think a lot of folks that are guilty of these behaviors are blind to their own hypocrisy.

Shared Spaces
AMEN!!!! Just yesterday I was subjected to the evil looks of a guy who wanted to read a book while I wanted to talk with my friend. Dude, it's a CAFE! Not a librabry! It#s a place wher epeople meet to have coffe and cake and a chat. You want peace and quiet? go to a a library or a co-working space.
I've the similar concern about people complaining about babies and kids in flights. Babies can only express their discomfort by crying and only 1% of world's population can afford for private jets, so be kind to that parent who is traveling with a child.
Love this. Honestly with two little kids I often feel very unwanted when we go places. At the bookstore when my baby was crying I had someone yell at me to get out of the store. We have every right to be somewhere, and I know when my kids need to be removed from a public place.
A friend of mine was actually asked to leave a furniture store where she went with her husband and baby to furnish their new home - her baby was fussy and cried, not even very much, and they were asked to leave. They spend thousands of Euros in another furniture store.
Load More Replies...As long as the parents are keeping an eye on them and not ignoring them, I have no problem with children in cafes and restaurants. Neglectful, irresponsible, and entitled parents expecting the rest of us to babysit while their kids run wild and create havoc, are the people I have issues with. Huge issues.
Most people enjoy babies talking and laughing. Crying on the other hand....
Got ice cream with my one year old this evening. Busy area, great vibe. She was standing up on her chair (yes I was holding onto her) delivering a joyful speech of babble to the masses. She was so excited by everyone around her
Yes! Awesome. Babies are humans too and that's how they communicate. Same goes with special needs adults for example (that can also be loud or speak or behave in a way that you don't understand.). Should any of these groups of humans not be allowed to go anywhere just for your comfort?
This! So often people, specially older ones expect little ones to be either quiet or leave. It saddens me that some people seem to think they're entitled to more than others in a PUBLIC SPACE.
A Grown Man Indeed
Love this! I can’t imagine that’s not the response she usually gets
Hats off to this man, he's a better man than me. Personally, I have all the respect in the world for her but I would unfortunately draw the line at sex.
And that's ok, you are who you are. Pre-op i think would be a lot for straight men to accept. My bf and i often invite a 3rd over (or a 4th and 5th lol) and one we met at a bar. Beautiful trans woman, both of us were into her. In the bedroom my bf discovered that he just wasn't as adventurous as he hoped he could be and though disappointing to me at first it just is who he is.

in this case i think they were trying to hook up or date, in which case it's entirely appropriate to tell someone you're trans beforehand

Custom Veganism
SO agree with this. Am trying to be vegan but I live in a cheese country.... love cheese TOO MUCH! I keep trying the vegan cheeses though. One day they will be good enough.
With mine and my husband's diet restrictions, I will never be fully vegan/vegetarian, but my meat consumption has shrunk exponentially. I used to have meat 3 times a day. Now, maybe one small portion per day. I do go some days without it at all. I mostly like to eat seafood/fish and chicken. I still eat bacon from time to time, although not even close to what I used to eat. All other pork and beef could disappear and I wouldn't care. It's mostly due to some sensory issues I developed, but I'm not unhappy about it. I also use ALOT of vegan recipes due to our diet. I made vegan banana nut muffins last night. Was afraid they would be dry. Nope. Delicious!
Load More Replies...So true! Reducing harmful things in your life is always helpful. There is no need to turn everythign into a religion, just so you can tell people they are 'not doing it right'. So you smokke 2 cigarettes a day instead of 20? Great? You only fly once every two years instead of five times? Cool! You eat one or two good steak instead of kilos of meat? Awesome! It all helps. And cutting down on something usually means cutting it down even more, once you get used to it.
I love this! I rarely eat red meat now, stick to chicken and fish and I'm bringing my portion sizes down. And I can't eat dairy anyway. I feel like doing these things is an improvement both for society/animals/environment and for my own health. No one should ever shame you for making positive steps, even if they are small.
That's me. I don't usually eat meat, but I'll have a cold cut sandwich when I'm on a field trip. Also, if my mom makes her famous Sunday roast, I'll eat it. I don't define myself as a vegetarian, but I actually think the amount of meat I eat in a year is really small. Say it happens once a month, MAYBE.
That's awesome! It's great if someone wants to never eat meat but simply eating less of it is positive too.

Dear Kids
How have we germans imported every fu**ing trend from the US but forgot this one?! We NEED this right now!
I don't know where you're located in Germany but where I live (I'm German as well) most truck drivers recognise the arm pumping and will toot their horn!
Load More Replies...I always wondered how truck drivers felt about this! Love that they’re good with it. However, when I taught my kids, I forgot to tell them to warn me. Scared the c**p out of me a couple times!

Train driver here. Same! (Though I don't when it's too close to people's houses.)
My partner is a truck driver and he absolutely lives for the moments he gets the horn tooting signal from random kids! FYI, though, a lot of newer trucks don't have that classic horn you pull on anymore, unfortunately. So you might get a "beep beep" instead of "toot toot", but the intention is the same.
I did this back in the sixties when I was a kid! I just love that some sweet lovely things like this haven’t changed.
My Music Taste
This is so me. My playlist can go from Metallica to Backstreet Boys to Beethoven's 5th
My current playlists have Metallica, Britney Spears and Bach in them 😂
Load More Replies...I just love music. I'm not too picky on the genre or artist. If I like the song, I like the song.
Youtube is starting to understand me. It played Hollaback Girl right after Master of Puppets.
This morning I woke up to Ghost playing, got myself all ready for the day with Robbie Williams in the background, drove to the shop listening to early Metallica, now resting and Brad Paisley is keeping me company, there are no rules, there are no guilty pleasures, music for the win.
My playlist has almost 8 different language songs in it from all over the timeline. I don't even understand all those languages. I like the sound of music, I add to my play list.
During an earlier in-depth interview, Suzanne Degges-White, Licensed Counselor, Professor, and Chair at the Department of Counseling and Higher Education at Northern Illinois University, shared with Bored Panda how our family values, spiritual beliefs, and even our biology all play a crucial role in our altruistic actions.

Basically, all spiritual belief systems have a version of the 'Golden Rule, 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’ "We also do good turns because we know that one day we may be in need of a little 'generosity from the universe,' so it's like putting 'money' into a karma account," she shared how people think.

Have you seen those Youtube videos where black American, urban kids entrenched in rap music and the like, hear songs like Bohemian Rhapsody for the first time? They are quite fun, they are shown a musical world they never knew about.

I'm old enough to have heard BR the first time round! But it doesn't matter. Anytime is a good time to enjoy it. Heck, I love listening to Bach's music. No one gets all bent out of shape because I wasn't there when he wrote it! :-)
I became a Kate Bush fan eons ago when she first released this. I’m 71 now. If pop culture can bring kids into the fandom, i say go for it. The kids and I now have something in common, Running Up That Hill is magic the first time you hear it, when it was on vinyl or in a popular TV show.
Honestly loved Bohemian Rhapsody and Running Up That hill before their respective showcase in visual media. (Kate Bush is a goddess, Freddie Mercury is a Queen!) But being late to the party doesn't mean you're NOT AT THE PARTY! Party on.

Rob Zombie Taking On Anyone Who Wants To Gatekeep Metal
Are those guys really trying to teach a Heavy Metal legend what metal is? Like, honestly?
Baby Metal is awesome. I don't speak or understand the language but I love their music. Music transcends language. Rob Zombie is awesome too.
honestly people, i dont care if u disagree with someones music taste but i hate it when people mkae other people feel like they arent worth more than their music taste. AND they make them feel embarrassed for liking that song, artist, band, etc... listen to what YOU want to listen to.

Sorry classical music buffs and others, but that is the rule for these people. 🤦♀️ (So dont effing listen to them and have that playlist shuffled with all kinds of music you like!!😊😊)
I've never heard of Babymetal (just checked them out on YouTube) but I knew Rob Zombie would do something like that. He's a cool guy.
"Lastly, humans are wired so that when we do something kind for another, we feel good about ourselves and neurotransmitters like endorphins and oxytocin have been shown to get a boost when we do something good for another. It is through cooperation that society functions, so the survival of the human race depends on being willing to help others. Family values, spiritual beliefs, and biology all play a part in this motivation," the professor explained to us.

Why is gaining knowledge on electronics specifically cell phones etc seen as a bad thing?

I read books on my phone because it is either ridiculously expensive to import them, or impossible to buy them in English. (AIreader is a brilliant app!). So many times I had random people comment on me being on a phone outside, while I was enjoying some beer.
I kinda like reading on my phone for that reason. People assume I'm doomscrolling, and I'm educating myself or reading. Being underestimated gives power.

Tiredness
I have no kids and barely work and I'm exhausted all the time. There's good reasons for it but simply telling people I'm tired all the time when they know my lifestyle is embarrassing because of how they judge me for it.
Every time I say i’m tired (insomniac, cluster headaches, compressed discs and in general have poor mobility) my older sister goes along the lines of TRY HAVING TWO KIDS UNDER 5, THEN YOU’LL KNOW WHAT TIRED IS. And my younger sister says something like YOU SIT AT A DESK ALL DAY HOW ARE YOO TIRED. They don’t realise that depression and anxiety can also manifest with physical exhaustion or tiredness, and making me feel bad about being tired just exasperates both. So yeah, I feel this post, thank you.
Telling tired people they're not really tired is just another way people judge people for making different decisions than what they deem appropriate
You can be tired with or without kids. Taking a nap while you have kids is the tricky part.
I was tired before I had children, I'm tired now. I go through bouts of insomnia- it's awful but not related to kids
Also if you find yourself feeling down as a parent thinking about all the many things you used to be able to juggle and now you can barely get to work or make a bowl of cereal, keep in mind you are still juggling just as many things if not more, they're just different things. You're still superman/woman and you're accomplishing a lot if you learn to value what you ARE doing over what you are not
I love the fact that this Mom acknowledges hard and exhausting work in others.
Fixed A Stupid Meme
THANKYOU. When I got depressed it manifested as being really surly and uncommunicative with everyone and not wanting to do anything except sit watching the same TV episodes over and over again. I didn't even *know* I was depressed.
Ohh watching the same things over and over... There was a point where I couldn't fall asleep unless I was listening to Event Horizon (odd choice perhaps, but so it goes).
Load More Replies...Honestly the more "deep" depression is the worse it is. Let's not glamorize that. I've definitely been glad I could use art as an outlet for my mental health but it shouldn't be seen as edgy or cool. It's torment and pain and ruins parts of your life and it's really hard to recover from. You shouldn't wish it on yourself.
A happy face over a depressed soul. 🙁 Many people with depression can still work and get around despite their hardships. There is nothing romantic or deep about depression and like you would when you break a leg: get help. Like bandaids, there's help for big and small. Take care of yourself. ❤️
WAIT I GOT AN AD FOR A TRUCK at the bottom of my screen so I thought it was saying that the truck was what depression looked like 😭😭
A picture was circulating of a movie still where the character was supposedly at her lowest. Assholes looking at it said she couldn't possible be depressed she was wearing a negligee and drinking wine out of a glass. I tried to tell them that has definitely been me days deep into a depression where I can't seem to lift my head up or see sunlight, or sleep, or eat. So I put on something comfortable and will eat/drink something simple and do things that have brought me joy before. Nope - I was informed that wasn't depression.
I recently accepted that I am depressed, because I thought I would want to push everyone away, be actively suicidal, etc. My depression simply manifested itself differently.
I didn’t realize I was severely depressed until I started working in a mental health facility and was educated about it. I just thought I was lazy and weak. Not everyone cries or contemplates ending it. Thank goodness for dogs and the miracle that is Wellbutrin!
Your Trauma Is Valid
I am so tired of people trying to 'diminish' my pain, my feelings. and it wasn't until just 3 years ago that i even had that word for it. That I was able to tell the person to stop doing that. They'd get flustered when I would counter please don't do that. Deny doing it. It's hard to push back, but it must be done to retain sanity.
Yep, got SA on my first date. Didn't really traumatize me but it's something I still remember and think about. Now here's what's actually traumatized me: seeing my mom running over cats because she lost her temper and didn't bother checking if anything was in the way of her car. Basically just trying to say that people can be traumatized by different things. What's traumatic to me won't be traumatic to everyone. It's all valid.
Thank you!! So many people tell others that they’ve been through worse and they’re fine but it doesn’t work like that!!

I’m always never perfect enough for her and even when I do get perfect grades and keep my room clean, she’ll pick out the tiniest details in me to complain about. And she never stops complaining. She can pick out the smallest thing and complain about it for days and I can’t even stop her or she’ll get mad and complain even more. Just a few days ago she threatened to kill my chickens then proceeded to make HERSELF seem like the victim saying we were all bullying her or something. She spends all day outside in the gardens leaving me to take care of my 4 year old sister. I cry almost every day because of all the things she says, like calling me fat or saying I’m dumb. What is this. I don’t know what to call it. I don’t know if it’s abuse, or if I’ll end up with trauma or anything. Please someone explain what I should call it and if I need help.
Talk to your parents or a trusted adult about Grandma's behavior so they keep you and your little sister safe & away from her. Her personality may be like this or she may be sick and need a doctor's care. She's being emotionally or psychologically abusive. Plain and simple. She doesn't have to hit you for it to be abuse. She's wrong to behave and speak that way and you do not deserve any of it.

Everyone Gets To Complain About The Weather
Honestly, apparently some other countries have been mocking us in the UK for not being 'able to handle the heat'...WE'RE NOT CONDITIONED FOR IT! Most of us vary between glow-in-the-dark white and cooked lobster red! WE ARE GOOD AT RAIN!
It's 29 degrees where I live today, I am about to burst into flames! I hate hot weather - but apparently I have no right to complain because it's even hotter in north England (I'm in ayrshire, Scotland). My mum is loving every second of this heat. Sone folk like it, some folk don't. I HATE it, I'm not designed for it, I don't like being hot or sweaty and I don't really care that it might be worse elsewhere because I feel uncomfortable right now where I am. Scotland is a pretty cool place, weather this hot happens a handful of times a year, we arent equipped to cool our houses down, although mine is thick stone so cooler than most. Give me a dry sunny but freezing cold day in winter and I'll be happy
Honestly? Surprised the Southerner isn't offering the Northener SWEET TEA instead of water. It's kinda the equivalent of hot chocolate. Kinda. Signed, a well-traveled-ish USer.
Umm...This is incorrect. The southerner would most likely offer sweet iced tea or lemonade, or both. Maybe even some ice cold watermelon, if you're in luck.
When that polar vortex hit Texas last year? The year before? Dunno. But there was a YouTube video about it with the most wholesome comment section ever. Northerners were giving advice on how to survive the cold, Texans asked questions without being ridiculed and there were even some people who apologised for mocking Europeans who suffered during the last heat wave. It was lovely all around.
I live in Canada and multiple times we’ve had cheerleaders come from Arizona during the coldest week of the year for a competition and many of them it’s their first time seeing snow and buying a winter jacket. We always welcome them to practice in our gym and make sure they stay warm. When we go down to Orlando for example for a competition other athletes are always so kind to make sure we’re not discouraged from the heat and making sure we’re not getting heat stroke or anything
When I read this, I feel so lucky to be born in Lisbon, Portugal. 5ºC in the winter and 42ºC in the summer are a common thing...
I'm from the UK and I love the heat, it's why I holiday outside of the UK

I remember what it was like when I first applied to the job I work now. It was a fast paced deli, and they asked me if I had any food service experience. I told him that I worked as a hot lunch coordinator at a school, and I had kids of my own that I make sandwiches for every day. Reading Goals
I needed this. I only just completed my 3rd book for the year - its been difficult to find time to sit and read. I am trying to fill more time by reading rather than being online. I hope to have read at least 5 books by the end of the year
That's awesome, you're doing great!! What I found to help me the most with reading regularly is using a reading app (as personally it encourages me to keep my streak going) and setting time aside to read each day, sometimes it's only 5 minutes, sometimes 2 hours, but I read a bit every day.

I don't think I've read a single book yet this year. I used to read all the time!
Also, just read one book. One book that will enrich your life - either because it's deep, smart, teaches empathy, or is funny and makes you forget about the world for a bit. Read so it makes your life better, not so you win some imaginary race set by pretentious people.
I never go to the washroom without my Kindle and can't go to sleep at night without getting at least a couple of chapters into me. Whatever works!
Audio books. If you can't find time to SIT and read then 'read' whilst doing stuff. Walking the dogs, commuting to work, at work, doing housework, cooking. Literally any and everywhere. LOVE BOOKS however they come.

It hurts when other members of the LGBT community say that asexuality is fake when we have one of the highest rates of being offered conversion therapy.
It is not a mental illness, and you are not broken. Asexuals, demisexuals and agender people are all valid and apart of the LGBTQIA+ community. You're sexuality is completely valid. There are bi asexuals, gay asexuals, and straight asexuals. Some asexuals are straight. Some aspects of the LGBT community apply to all sexual and gender minorities, others apply to those who are same-sex attracted. If we can please get back to kindergarten lessons on how to share and also how to respect boundaries, this shouldn't be complicated. Solidarity is in many cases more important than inclusion.

I agree wholeheartedly with that sign. I've never quite understand the whole concept of "young adult books". Aren't you limiting the potential audience by stating the industry's target audience? Who even makes the decisions: "yeah, this is a young adult book".
I believe it's partly due to the age of the characters in the book and their life situation. Often YA books are navigating "typical" teenager topics like first crushes, school/college, identity/sexuality issues, trying to navigate getting into the workforce and finding a job, relationships with friends and family etc. Of course those topics are not only interesting for younger people but like Konpat said I think they're really relevant for people in a similar situation which usually are young adults so it makes sense to directly label books as such.
Load More Replies...I love children and young adult books, they are often more imaginative and unpretentious.

Load More Replies...Wonderful! I haven't been in the YA age category for a long time, but I vastly prefer them to 90% of the adult fiction. YA books have similarly profound themes, but none of the boring pretentiousness - and stuff actually happens in them! There is adventure! Romance (and not just s*xual violence)! Fun! Let's not forget that YA actually has fun in it.
I read quite a lot of YA books. I struggle with reading now due to some of the medication I am on and find that YA is a nice compromise as the language generally isn't quite as complicated as some of the other books I used to read. They are also printed in a slightly bigger font which helps me so much. My current favourites are The Chronicles of Ixia by Maria V Snyder.
I'm a huge YA fan! It's not as heavy as a lot of adult fantasy but much more grown up than kids books
Every middle school teaches To Kill a Mockingbird. It’s one of my all-time favorite books that I reread every year. I first read Little Women when I was a young girl. It’s another book I reread often. It is amazing just how different the story is when you read it at a different age and with more life experience than the last time you read it. THAT’S the glory of reading well-written classic literature, written by authors who really understand human nature and human experience.
Two of my favourite books :) One of the series I want to re-read for that reason is Tomorrow when the war began. I think the new world context will make it even more interesting.
Load More Replies...Honestly 'young adult' has been invented since I was in my twenties. I understand why, I'm not criticising, but before them these books would have been just out on the shelves with all the others. Like 'teenager' and 'toddler' there's no scientific fact behind these divisions, it's literally just marketing.
I'm still mad that when I was 13 the librarian shooed me out of the children's section, as I was reading picture books...picture books are for all ages and at 24 I enjoy them still!
I love YA because I don't have to deal with all the gratuitous sex that seems to be mandatory in adult fiction

I'm always envious of my husband's facial hair, especially since he doesn't do anything with it! If I had his hair growth, I'd have tried mustaches a la Poirot, braided beard versions like a dwarf etc., etc., but he just keeps his standard - though nice and manly - full beard. So disappointing...

I'm Sure Many Of Us Needed To Hear This
F*****g THIS! Everyone has something different that they can do . Sometimes it's petitions ,sometimes it's protests, sometimes it's writing letters ,sometimes it's survival, sometimes it's education. The only path that isn't ok is turning a blind eye to the problem.
Sometimes it’s donating a couple bucks to each organization you support. I don’t make much money, but every year I decide what amount I can spare, divide it up equally between all my favorite organizations, and give each of them their portion. May only be a couple bucks in leaner years, but always something. I mean, if everyone sent one single dollar to each organization they supported, that would end up being somewhere in the neighborhood of $300 million in the US alone.
Load More Replies...I get very anxious in large & loud crowds of people so I’m much too scared to protest. I like art activism and listening to stories of people online. (Petitions are good too )
And don't let the morons who call everything 'vIRtuAl SignALinG', which in of itself is literally virture signaling but they're too stupid to even see that, get you down.
This makes me feel much better. my brother and my mom are very good protesters but I am too scared of the cops to go. Glad I am still useful on the sidelines
I needed this so much! With every thing that is going on in the US...I feel like I can be doing so much more to help, but I just realized that cheering on the people that have the capacity to help the good fight IS helping the resistance and I am doing one hell of a job, I am important to the cause! 😊
I think we have to discuss whether making snitty comments and sharing memes on social media counts as 'a lane' when it's all people do
I've seen this one before, but it hits me today. There are so many ways to fight the good fight, and they're all good if they're helping move us in the right direction.

I'm gonna be that person, it's not a bbq unless you have some vegetables on the grill. It's like a law that atleast one vegetable falls through the grates, usually the best looking one, so you must have vegetables on the bbq.

Metallica Welcomes Everyone
I'm sorry Metallica for all the new fans you are getting introduced to. That like your music because of a show a new generation looks at?? Really. 🤦♀️ Yeah, why would Metallica want more people liking their musik? Double 🤦♀️🤦♀️ (Hope the sarcasm is obvious because 🤦♀️ wow, what a clueless so called "fan") edited spelling
Ah, Metallica... I had all your records at one time. Well, I had the mp3s (thanks, Napster!).
I hit the comments specifically to make a Napster jab. Thank you Kate. You're never too young to discover Metallica, but you might be too young to remember when they joined forces with Sheryl Crow and Dr Dre to try to end file sharing. All is forgiven, but yeah.
Load More Replies..."Most metal ever!" - That was the best bit of TV I've seen in years, if not ever, I was laughing and crying from the sheer joy of it.
I started listening to Elvis Costello because of a story I read online long ago. Who cares how someone gets into music?
Basically what this person is saying "I am sorry that more people are being introduced into your music because of a TV show bc I am a gatekeeping brat who thinks that only people who were born in this era should listen to the music from this era." Metallica's response was so perfect.
My Dad is just super happy that Master of Puppets is finally on the top 100.
I got into Mastodon because of the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie. It's a funny, dark yet playful song played by food versions of the band called Linoleum Knife and I went from there. I wouldn't have listened to their music otherwise because I wasn't exposed to it anywhere else
I'm Sorry metallica that you are getting more publicity because of a TV show that people like. I'm so sorry that there are kids out there who have made new friends over the love of a band. It sucks when people dont gatekeep songs because of generation. IM SO SORRY METALLICAAAAAAAAAAAA (Joke if you couldn't tell)
It's A Big Ask But I'm Behind It
I can actually relate quite a bit to this as recently I was overwhelmed because my teacher was yelling at me and she said "you're too young to cry" and that is absolute bs my friend
What your teacher said is not only unkind, but completely untrue. Human beings have feelings...we are meant to FEEL them. Crying is normal and healthy at any age.

Often we end up doing different things in the same room bc I need to sit quietly, but I kinda need him around too

That is a good skill. I remember doing that before I got my fibromyalgia diagnosis and treatment. I still will do things like lying on my stomach on the bed to lift things off the floor if getting up is too much for me to handle.

Pacing yourself is very important when you have a chronic condition (and if you don't at times) because using all your spoons can have a negative effect later on. One way I did that this week was to make half my bed (the fitted sheet and top sheet) and just chuck the blankets and doonas on top one day, then put the cover on the doona and fit them all another day.
Wish I Could Thank Whoever Made This Post
So often, the huge list of chores a job advertises scares me right off. My spouse always suggests I apply anyway. "You won't do half that stuff! They just don't know how to write a help-wanted ad!". Spouse is 100% correct.
I only recently learned about this expectation! I've always just not bothered applying when the expectations are too high. They really do need to differentiate between what's needed and what's wanted; at times the difference between the two is like the difference between minimum required and recommended specs on a video game!
In Australia, when you are on a jobseeker payment, you have to apply for jobs that you aren't sure you are qualified for (or know you aren't) to meet your job application target or else your payment might be cut. Then you get questioned as to why you applied for something that you can't do and it can be counted against you too! I hate this system sometimes (ok, a lot of the time).
Not A Pro Gamer? Well Get Ready For A Reality Check
That's exactly it. Some People play a game to enjoy the story and the experience. Not everyone likes a challenge
My life is stressfull enough. I play nothing but super casual and cute games. i just want to explore a story and look at pretty things. I don't need any additional challenges.
Load More Replies...Easy is my default. I enjoy the game better that way, I don't like getting stuck on the same thing over and over.
I play on easy and if I enjoy it enough and want more of a challenge, then I'll up the difficulty
Load More Replies...Oh and let's not forget that some games, in order to complete it 100%, you have to play through on easy too. It's pretty fun playing easy and a great way to get a good boost to items and level; you breeze through and can catch things you may have missed from concentrating too hard on the more difficult settings.
i want to play to enjoy a game, not to stress about it!! i always play easy until i fee like i want a challenge.
Not everybody wants to be challenged. Sometimes it's nice to just explore and move through a story in a whole new world!
I love the dark souls games because of the rock hard difficulty but I'm not adverse to playing other games on easy ..who cares how you play as long as your playing that's really all that matters

I had a conversation with my dad about "women's football", and he self-corrected himself to "football played by women". It's not a different sport - the rules are the same, the equipment used is the same, and (slowly and finally) the pitches are the same. The difference is the gender of the players. That doesn't make it a different sport. The same thing applies here, and beyond sports. If everything about an interest is the same, with the one exception being the gender or race of the person enjoying it, that does not make it a different interest.
I don't get it. Is there any difference between "woman's football" and "football played by women"? Care to explain this to a german guy?

OK, so my 12yo is this skinny white lad from southern UK. He is a musician and seriously loves all kinds of MOBO. His friends have all sorts of ethnic backgrounds between them...I never saw him cry so hard as he did when Bill Withers died in 2020. I can totally see him joining a Ska or reggae band when he is older...music is a universal language and should remain so.
This! I can't remember how many times I've been told I'm not really black because of the things I like, the way I talk, or my political beliefs.

I actually love that games are making hairstyles and other things for any gender character you want. And also not making you pick the gender but just the body type. I used to be so annoyed when I'd pick female characters and my brother or now my husband had these awesome short hairdos for their male characters and I couldn't use them if I wanted to be female. Such weird restrictions. Now we can make any character we want to!
Stardew Valley is one that goes beyond character creation, and you can have same-sex partners that you adopt children with 💖
Load More Replies...I remember Saints Row was one of the first series to really just say "screw it" on gender-locking character design. Those games literally have a slider between "bodybuilder" and "J-cup breast" body types and you can set it however you want in between. Has zero bearing on anything your character wears, does, says, or can accomplish.
I love that games let you pick from both genders hair and clothes now too! My Trans kid has a cool character and tbh all the cool clothes are in the guy section!!

Also - don’t be afraid to just not finish something. Start writing a short story and not finish, start sewing a dress and quit halfway through, start learning how to do xyz and decide it’s not for you. Once I had the freedom to not finish things, I stopped being afraid to start them.
It is ok to not read the comics BUT they are very much worth it and I highly recommend them. -a nerd

Somebody told me once to look at a clock when I feel like it's taking longer than it ought to to finish a task. The second, minute, and hour hands are all going a different speed, but they're all going to make it all the way around. Maybe you're not the second hand; You might not even be the minute hand. But even if you're the hour hand, everything you do is moving you forward, and you will make the journey
You would not believe how often this advice is needed for those who seek to transition via HRT! It's easy to focus on the timelines of people who hit the jackpot on the genetics lottery and got a ton of development in the first 6 months, but they are outliers and it doesn't matter either way. You get what you get from HRT, and if it makes you more comfortable with yourself, it's worth it regardless of the speed and intensity of the changes it causes.
At least 40% of the people I went to uni with and friends I didn't, took more than the 3 or 4 years their course is 'supposed' to take. Which One Is Better ?
I am a fan of the genre (and other genres too). I enjoy both, I liked Firefly and Babylon 5. I have not watched Battlestar Galactica and I am trying to find time to start watching Dr. Who. I also enjoy Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. I also play Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and Legend of Zelda.
I'm also a sci-fi fan, but I don't like either Star Wars or Star Trek. It's a toss up whether Firefly or Dr Who are my favourite. I also like Dollhouse, Torchwood, Silversun, and many others.

Ironic that, when 70 Across is written as "Star Trek," 71 down is a Star Wars quote.
Ask from a non English mother language: is it correct to say "the better"? I had written "the best"
Hello, English expert here! "The better" is the correct phrase to use in this case because only two things are being compared. If there were three or more things being compared, "the best" would be used. Also, I just wanted to say that you both have very impressive English skills. Have a nice day!

Don't Be Embarrassed To Try New Things!
The only difference between you and an expert is time spent. The expert kept going when they failed, and they got better, because you cannot do something constantly and NOT get better at it in some capacity. Especially not if you care enough about it to keep trying.
Easier said than done, especially when everyone has access to a camera at a seconds notice and can take a photo of you in an a compromised position then share it online for the world to mock. Yeah no thanks. Just one thing that stops me from doing a lot of things.
I feel you but also it's your life. Yours, not theirs. They don't get to tell you you can't try new things because you can't do them well. It's your life and yours to live and experience how you want it. And maybe you'll look ridiculous but I assure you, for many, you won't look stupid you'll brave. Seeing people being good at something isn't a motivation for me but seeing someone suck is. It makes me think that I can try too. I don't know if this helps anyone but if you're trying something new and sucking remember that there's someone who thinks you're a bada*s! Because I guarantee you I am.

I feel like this one depends on each person and situation. I was a shy kid and didn't want to confront the challenge of being around people but then my parents neglected me and I was isolated for years and now I have horrendous anxiety when I'm with people. Encouraging someone to get through their weaknesses to grow can be good too. I think it's all about knowing yourself. I'm also introverted so even if I socialized I wouldn't want to do it for a long time. So again, depends on the person and situation.
I Think This Belongs Here As Well
And the older I get, the less time I have, so I’m grateful for those time savers!
I work 50+ hours a week and have a kid and home to take care of. Yes, I know how to chop vegetables and make a lot of foods from scratch. However, buying precut veggies and meal kits or frozen meal at least allows me to feed my family something at home rather than picking up fast food. I call it a win.
I have a 2 hour commute each day (each way!) I am definitely buying kits and pre-chopped stuff.

I don't think it's sad at all. I found a label for how I felt about myself, and it helped me realize that the part of myself that was causing so much confusion and upset was completely valid and not just something broken in my brain. I'm non-binary. That's a thing that is real, whether or not anyone agrees with me is irrelevant. It's helped my mental health so much in the past years. “You Call This Archeology?”
Yes, but we also take into account any grave goods found alongside remains, as well as the condition of the bones. We can tell a lot about how a person lived by their bones -- whether they led a life of leisure or toiled from dawn to dusk, whether they were sickly or healthy, what kind of standing they had within their community, all kinds of things. Analysis of their teeth can tell us where they grew up and offer a record of periods of famine and/or disease. A skeleton is a lot more than a pelvis.

Please just suggest albums or songs or tell me about other similar bands. My ex used to gatekeep. He would never introduce me to his music because I like [insert whatever non-metal band] so I won't like it. And then be sooo surprised I come across a song from a band he liked that I enjoyed. See you incel gatekeeping åss, we could've enjoyed things together if you had tried and not shot me down when I asked
I like loads of non-metal bands; I'm still a metalhead.

Thank you. I'm not a "real" anime fan because I prefer dubs. I'm a slow reader to begin with and besides, i have manga if i want to read. I don't want to miss watching because I'm too focused on reading
Anime dubbed in German on RTL II in the 90s and 00s is how I both learnt German and came to love anime.
When I was younger anime was for "dorks". I still loved it and watched it. I'm glad it's becoming more mainstream with my kid's generation. It's a beautiful art form.
I love this cause of the stupid war between dubbers and subbers. I do both depending on my mood, what I’m doing, what’s available, or what seems more interesting at the time
I do like hearing the tones of original actors but you miss out of facial expressions and nuances when reading subtitles. Dubs are good if the performance is good.
I Was Told This Might Belong Here
in an ideal world this is how it would work and is how it should work unfortunately there are a few people out there who cant accept it i dont know why i mean if you want me to call you by a different name then i will call you by it once then forget because i have a bad memory and then just call you dude which is gender neutral term but seriously it doesn't affect me in any way dont know why people have such an issue with it
Saw This One On Instagram
I once was on a date when we met a friend (rather an accqua... but I can't spell that 😉) and after we said goodby my date went on and on and on about my friend having black nailpolish like above. There were definitly NOT a second date with that AH. 🤮
Making the mother of all makeovers here. Cant fret over every eyeliner!

Keep Being Happy With Each Other
I personally get weirded out when i see people kiss. Its just a me thing tho, I love seeing happy couples
I don't mind a sweet peck, but making out makes me feel uncomfy. however, I love seeing happy couples with genuine love showing on their faces when they look at each other

I feel ya, sillybunn1e, I have sensory processing disorder and there are textures that stress me out! (Wool, why does it have to be so itchy?!) EDIT TO ADD: in case anyone else is curious, too, https://www.reddit.com/r/BattleJackets/
Thanks for the link. I had images of chestplates, gambesons and chain mail dancing in my head.

At A Folk Dance Festival In Sheffield Last Weekend
This is really handy. When I did contradance in Ohio, it was really common for female dancers to dance the "male" part, so they had a bag of pre-tied neckties, and women dancing the "male" role for that dance would put one on so that people who encountered them in the dance would know how to dance with them (instead of thinking they'd made a mistake and ended up in the wrong place in the figure).
I do a class that has monthly dances and there’s never enough men to go around, so half the guy partners are usually girls. I should suggest this idea.

I feel like this has now been decided. Humanity in itself is batshit crazy. We now no longer need to feel inadequate, or anxious, or anything other than just being okay being ourselves. No matter which version of ourselves we're feeling like today, it's okay. Do what you need to do to be able to get to tomorrow, and be yourself again tomorrow without feeling guilty, or ashamed.

We're just upset because they said they were bringing it back after they canceled the show halfway through and they brought us a show for small children instead
FACTS!!! I was so miffed when they announced a new TT show and then we got this loud hyper color train wreck.

So the second picture, what every guy seams to think girls like, is my least favorite. Just food for though, that the "mainstream" is a middle, not what most people think.
i like all of them 🥰 #1 is like a tall, thin golden retriever and i love it! you can tell #2 worked hard for their body, and i’m proud of them for their devotion! and #3 probably gives the best, warmest hugs :)
Load More Replies...We should all just stop believing standards and be happy we have a body and especially a body that works. I have chronic pain I'd trade my body for a different one any day if it meant I wasn't sick all the time. I just want a useful body, I don't care if it fits a stupid visual standard.
I used to think the middle picture was my ideal guy. Been 20 years now with a guy that looks like the first pic. The heart wants what it wants!
Very Wholesome Moment In The Fromsoft Game Community
How do I cheese someone? I may try it on myself first depending on the answers.
Cheesing is finding weak points in the enemy's armor or general weak points on them.
Load More Replies...As a DS player, I thank and applaud you for this. Some bosses are just "literally tear your hair out in frustration" level hard and any weak points I find, I exploit (Here's looking at you, Four Kings, or the Forking Four Kings, if you know what I mean). Also, shout out to those who have beaten said bosses and leave their summon signs out to assist others. You guys are legendary, respect.

Damn. One downvote that could be a mistake or petty revenge gets the author banned? That sucks.
