But you’ve got to admit – some things are so ugly they have no business being out there and deserve to be roasted online. That’s what happened to these (probably) nice people who were just looking to sell their house online. However, due to the sometimes harsh Internet culture, things took a different turn, and now everyone and their mother now knows about this ugly house in Texas and we think, that you should, too.

The description for it seems rather mundane: “Large 4 Br/2 Ba Ranch style home in Leisurewoods. Kitchen and walls painted custom by owner. Detached converted garage, detached office, pool, green room. Large living room/den, and formal dining plus breakfast nook. Furniture is negotiable. Huge lot with mature trees. Historical Texans burial plot in [the] front yard. One of a kind, artistic home with lots of great features.” However, we’ll be honest – the historical Texans burial plot in the front yard has us creeped out just a bit.

Pink, so much pink everywhere we swear we can almost taste cotton candy just looking at this home decor. Also, do you think the sofa was put here just for decorative purposes? Judging from the number of cushions put on it, it certainly doesn’t seem to be inviting anyone to sit down and relax on it.

There are so many odd features with this home idea, we’re not even sure where to begin. To not get overwhelmed, let’s focus on the fridge first. Have you ever seen a decoupaged fridge? Well, now you have. And there’s even a nice cabbage for you on the stove that goes perfectly with motifs on the fridge.

Have you noticed the tassels dangling down from the drawers? They certainly add that je ne sais quoi to an almost plain-looking kitchen. If it wasn’t for the tassels, the place would definitely lose part of its charm. Luckily, we also have a lot of decoupage going on here and even a leopard fur-patterned lamp to go with a little leopard-y box.

I feel like this article is kind of ... mean? Why would you call someone's home ugly? Just because you don't like it? Noone's making you live there. To me it feels like the owner put a lot of love into this house. Whatever that looks like to strangers is inconsequential.

The writer of this article is free to state their opinion, and regardless of the opinion I don't see any reason for people to be affected by it. And honestly, it is gaudy and way to cluttered. Someone should have let the home owner know that this clutter and supper specific decorating style is going to affect interested parties and sale value.
In all likelihood, this house was someone's "forever home". In such situations, owners have no intention of ever selling and decorate to suit their own tastes because resale value is meaningless. More power to all who feel this way.
Lemme think....because it’s ugly? Most listing agents would tell them to store about 75% of the “decorations” and paint the walls white before they’d sell it. All that endless stuff just makes the house look small and cheap and there is no way the owner has managed to keep all that fabric clean. It just makes the house smell dusty and dirty.

I actually like the kitchen, the decoupage fridge gave me an idea for my own. Just remove the clutter and change the curtains around the house and I would move in. People nowadays are to chicken to use colour and patterns, i'm not.

I don't understand why someone should make fun on the internet of someone else's house. Ok, its overdecorated, but it looks clean and tidy. If you don't want to buy it, simply don't do it. Perhaps the actual owner does't like to be mocked by hundreds of strangers.
Declaring someone else's style as ugly is really a highly subjective judgement. There is nothinh inherently amiss in this house. Everything is tidy and in order, there is clearly a proper place for every thing. There is a unifying color scheme for most of the decor. And I would not be surprised to find unifying themes and stories expressed in the pictures, as well. This home is a classic example of "Country" style decorating, a decor style that has been popular throughout the US for decades. Some folks don't like this style, but that doesn't make it objectively ugly.
Yes but in terms of its resale value it is a nightmare. The whole place would have to be striped and repainted. A big job. When I was looking to buy a flat I saw one whoch was decorated similar to this except is was green. Really puts you off even considering it

Painting is really considered a big job? I've painted and stripped wallpaper myself on a whim, its fast and fairly easy.

What people need to realize is that you are buying the house, not the furniture. Sure the kitchen/bathroom cabinets would need to be painted but aside from that, if you look at the rooms, (not the furniture) the house is quite decent overall. A house decorated like this tends to sell cheaply due to the fact that people cannot look past the furniture/decorations (which will be taken away before you move in) and see the potential that is literally a couple gallons of paint away. A neighbor of mine's whole house was decorated on the inside in Christmas style. Literally everything. When they sold the house, the house was listed with all of the decorations in place and the new owners got it for an absolute steal since most people would not consider it after seeing all of the Xmas stuff. When the old owners left, they took all of the Xmas stuff with them and it was a very nice house. The new owners put it back on the market and made almost double immediately.
A good real estate agent would tell them to paint it white and put away the frou frou. People buy houses for all kinds of weird reasons. I know of one that sold because the front door was wide enough for the couch to get through. The rest of the house was falling apart, but the (half worn out) couch fit.

All that decoupage is a wonderful defense mechanism! I could hardly spot anything, it is like all the furniture and decoration just melts together. An intruder wouldn't stand a chance to your old desensitized self. Decouflage!

Very reminiscent of the decorative painting I used to in the 90s. Mackenzie Childs was huge, and the natural decorating choice for any former 80s Lisa Frank girl LOL. While I wouldn't choose this overblown decor for my own home, the actual artwork has been executed beautifully (Except that bathroom wall with the gold hearts).

Many of the 'paintings' look like they are actually embroideries and if they are they would have taken a long time. In the bedroom the one that looks like an angel (on the far left) is more likely Leda and the Swan DEFINATELY NOT religious. I recognise several other pictures which may actually be embroideries done by the resident. The taste is definately why have one when 3 or 4 is better. There are some interesting ideas used here. As a crafter I would love to see the craft area if this is a deceased estate I bet that room is overflowing too with ideas that never made it to fruitiion.
I'm reminded of Victorian style... as in, the way they actually used to decorate their homes. Cluttered and fussy. Basically the more things to catch your eye, the better. I mean, somebody put a lot of time and love into that home, but dang. Just looking at pictures of it gives me anxiety.

The decor in this home is overdone and not to most people's taste, but it is definitely NOT "the ultimate dream for a hoarder with a touch of OCD." The person has a great many items, but they are carefully chosen for their decorative effect, carefully arranged, and the place looks very clean. Hoarders pile up tons of old random stuff everywhere, never throw anything out, until it's almost impossible to move around in the house. I agree with Ksenia M. that it's mean to make fun of the house because it's not to your taste. I once saw the front lawn of a house decorated with hundreds of painted animal statuettes of all kinds. It was very corny, but done with so much love and care that it was worthy of admiration.

The style has consistency and I think that's what separates it from just plain clutter and random decor. To some, it may be over-the-top (me included), but that depends on an individual's aesthetic taste. Judging from the comments, people generally like it. Personally, I am a minimalist, but I don't consider my lifestyle as a template for everyone. I just like it when there's not a lot of stuff around where I live. But this house is highly personalized for the person who lives there.
This article is very mean-spirited. The house is actually fairly well decorated for this type of interior and the owners have a lot of creativity. It's quite artistic and unique, I love that kitchen. It may be a little crowded and I'm not a big fan of pink interiors, but it's still more appealing to me than the minimalist, colorless bland styles that are popular today.
The kitchen and bathroom would be a problem but once the furniture and personal items like pictures and loose rugs are gone the other rooms would be just like any other house.

I really disagree with the comments of the pictures in this article. You sound mean. It is unusual house we all see but it is way too far to call it ugly. I think it is very artistry, skilfulness and interesting.
It’s not that bad remove the ugly patterned upholstery on furniture and drapes. get some solids like light greens blues yellows to brighten up the place. It’s not that bad. The paintings are cute and remind me of Beatrix Potter. I used to love Victorian. Devore when I was little. Now I prefer more traditional. But Beatrix Potter kitch is not so horrible if done right. And this is not. The kitchen & bathroom are adorable. The living dinning room not quite there yet. Needs solids. And too dark needs brightening. Solid light yellows blues and greeens would do it!

I think it looks like someone had a ton of fun making their home look exactly the way they wanted it. Now, they clearly had no thought as to resale value, and they're asking a bit much for something that will have to be completely re-done inside (although, we don't actually know the average price of homes in that neighborhood, unless someone wants to google it). It grosses me out, but I don't have to live there. So, as long as it's just a bit much "whimsy" and not a Texas Chainsaw Massacre theme ... live and let live.

The home feels like it should be on display for a ten minute tour of the art, and not lived in. It has this quality of being impressively awesome and dauntingly unlivable at the same time.

The more I saw the kitchen the more it grew on me. The rest of the rooms, not so much. My sis is kind of like this; no white space and no surface space. When that happens too many unique and beautiful things gets "lost". Overall, this house is pretty amazing in its consistency.

Hahaha, I have an over the top maximalist decorating style as well so I empathize with my sister in (glue gun arms) arms. I've watched enough HGTV to know that if I want to sell I'll need to remove some of my special spice blend!!!
I can imagine all those rooms stripped down and painted earth tones to match the outside. There's a lot of potential in a 2,200 square foot ranch style rambler. You just need to remember that whatever you do to a house, it's not permanent. New owners won't care how you decorated it.

I prefer the Arts and Crafts/Mission/Frank Lloyd Wright style and Federal style type of furniture and interior designs, myself, but boy, does this remind me of my late grandparents' house. Grandma was only allowed to do up the dining room that way. My grandfather refused to let the rest of their house get frilly like that; she had a couple of fancy boxes on her dressing table, and that was it!

Well, that’s vomitorious. Thankfully the owner would take all that ugly garbage with them when they move, because if they tried to leave it, I’d fire it all off to the local landfill. ...///... We’re looking at houses now, and this is not our first rodeo. Paint is the easiest, cheapest renovation you could do. ALWAYS paint first. I haven’t seen a single place where I wouldn’t rip out the kitchen anyway, so that’s not a big deal. ...///... I’d also redo the bathrooms and rip out most of the flooring before I’d move in. ...///... This is dreadful, but it’s easily changed. And they aren’t going to get $400,000.00 for it. No buyer would take it unless they discounted the price steeply. Renovations don’t come cheap.

At first I thought it was Delores Umbridge’s house, but there’s not enough cats.
No disrespect for anyone who likes this, but it is not my taste at all. I mean, I'm not a fan of bare, sterile rooms; I prefer a combination of clean lines and comfort; basically a tiny fraction of this---but without an inch of decoupage. It's just that I would never be able to relax in any room of this house. Not. At. All. It's way too busy, and I don't care for pink except as a sparingly used accent color (I was the only girl after 4 boys, so my mother insisted I have a girly pink room, without considering that I might not like the color that much. When I was 16, I finally convinced her how much I wanted to get rid of the pink, and was so happy when she let me paint it a lovely, serene light blue). Lastly, I'm exhausted and headachy just thinking of the amount of exertion---or money---it would take to keep all those ruffles, flounces, and other OTT fantasy-Victorian frou-frous clean!

This is why, when you sell a house, the realtor tells you to paint the walls white, clear out art and personal effects, and let them STAGE THE HOUSE in a super neutral way.
Ah, yes, the way Estate Agents stage a house. As one of several girls sharing a rental that was to be sold we were given a list of what to do before making ourselves scarce for an "Open Day". Things like remove all budget products from the bathroom and replace them with high priced luxury brand toiletries. Leave at least one bedroom drawer slightly open to display sexy lingerie and replace the cheap wine in the kitchen with something "decent". Left us in no doubt what sort of new landlord to expect!
That is actually the worst advice you can give a seller. Older houses have old types of paint, and if you paint over them with modern plastic ones, you can get mold and the paint starts to fall off. Old houses can also have original wallpaper, wih no plastics in them. Then you have the risk of mold again and also risk destroying the old ones. You should also be aware of that you might be hiding led paints and poisonous wallpaper and so on. And you should be aware if someone painted everything white, they might very well be hiding problems with damp etc. My house is at least 310 years old, with 8 layers of wallpaper, lets just say I have some work to do (until i'm like 100 years old). Idiots have painted the at least 300 year old baking oven with plastic paint. Best regard from someone who lived more or less my whole life at buildingsites of somekind. ;)

I feel like this article is kind of ... mean? Why would you call someone's home ugly? Just because you don't like it? Noone's making you live there. To me it feels like the owner put a lot of love into this house. Whatever that looks like to strangers is inconsequential.

The writer of this article is free to state their opinion, and regardless of the opinion I don't see any reason for people to be affected by it. And honestly, it is gaudy and way to cluttered. Someone should have let the home owner know that this clutter and supper specific decorating style is going to affect interested parties and sale value.
In all likelihood, this house was someone's "forever home". In such situations, owners have no intention of ever selling and decorate to suit their own tastes because resale value is meaningless. More power to all who feel this way.
Lemme think....because it’s ugly? Most listing agents would tell them to store about 75% of the “decorations” and paint the walls white before they’d sell it. All that endless stuff just makes the house look small and cheap and there is no way the owner has managed to keep all that fabric clean. It just makes the house smell dusty and dirty.

I actually like the kitchen, the decoupage fridge gave me an idea for my own. Just remove the clutter and change the curtains around the house and I would move in. People nowadays are to chicken to use colour and patterns, i'm not.

I don't understand why someone should make fun on the internet of someone else's house. Ok, its overdecorated, but it looks clean and tidy. If you don't want to buy it, simply don't do it. Perhaps the actual owner does't like to be mocked by hundreds of strangers.
Declaring someone else's style as ugly is really a highly subjective judgement. There is nothinh inherently amiss in this house. Everything is tidy and in order, there is clearly a proper place for every thing. There is a unifying color scheme for most of the decor. And I would not be surprised to find unifying themes and stories expressed in the pictures, as well. This home is a classic example of "Country" style decorating, a decor style that has been popular throughout the US for decades. Some folks don't like this style, but that doesn't make it objectively ugly.
Yes but in terms of its resale value it is a nightmare. The whole place would have to be striped and repainted. A big job. When I was looking to buy a flat I saw one whoch was decorated similar to this except is was green. Really puts you off even considering it

What people need to realize is that you are buying the house, not the furniture. Sure the kitchen/bathroom cabinets would need to be painted but aside from that, if you look at the rooms, (not the furniture) the house is quite decent overall. A house decorated like this tends to sell cheaply due to the fact that people cannot look past the furniture/decorations (which will be taken away before you move in) and see the potential that is literally a couple gallons of paint away. A neighbor of mine's whole house was decorated on the inside in Christmas style. Literally everything. When they sold the house, the house was listed with all of the decorations in place and the new owners got it for an absolute steal since most people would not consider it after seeing all of the Xmas stuff. When the old owners left, they took all of the Xmas stuff with them and it was a very nice house. The new owners put it back on the market and made almost double immediately.
A good real estate agent would tell them to paint it white and put away the frou frou. People buy houses for all kinds of weird reasons. I know of one that sold because the front door was wide enough for the couch to get through. The rest of the house was falling apart, but the (half worn out) couch fit.

It looks fine to me. It's overdecorated in a nice way. It looks like a castle or a princess' room.
All that decoupage is a wonderful defense mechanism! I could hardly spot anything, it is like all the furniture and decoration just melts together. An intruder wouldn't stand a chance to your old desensitized self. Decouflage!
Plus, it hides dirt! Bonus! The place could be absolutely filthy, but you’d never see it.

Very reminiscent of the decorative painting I used to in the 90s. Mackenzie Childs was huge, and the natural decorating choice for any former 80s Lisa Frank girl LOL. While I wouldn't choose this overblown decor for my own home, the actual artwork has been executed beautifully (Except that bathroom wall with the gold hearts).

Many of the 'paintings' look like they are actually embroideries and if they are they would have taken a long time. In the bedroom the one that looks like an angel (on the far left) is more likely Leda and the Swan DEFINATELY NOT religious. I recognise several other pictures which may actually be embroideries done by the resident. The taste is definately why have one when 3 or 4 is better. There are some interesting ideas used here. As a crafter I would love to see the craft area if this is a deceased estate I bet that room is overflowing too with ideas that never made it to fruitiion.
I'm reminded of Victorian style... as in, the way they actually used to decorate their homes. Cluttered and fussy. Basically the more things to catch your eye, the better. I mean, somebody put a lot of time and love into that home, but dang. Just looking at pictures of it gives me anxiety.

The decor in this home is overdone and not to most people's taste, but it is definitely NOT "the ultimate dream for a hoarder with a touch of OCD." The person has a great many items, but they are carefully chosen for their decorative effect, carefully arranged, and the place looks very clean. Hoarders pile up tons of old random stuff everywhere, never throw anything out, until it's almost impossible to move around in the house. I agree with Ksenia M. that it's mean to make fun of the house because it's not to your taste. I once saw the front lawn of a house decorated with hundreds of painted animal statuettes of all kinds. It was very corny, but done with so much love and care that it was worthy of admiration.

The style has consistency and I think that's what separates it from just plain clutter and random decor. To some, it may be over-the-top (me included), but that depends on an individual's aesthetic taste. Judging from the comments, people generally like it. Personally, I am a minimalist, but I don't consider my lifestyle as a template for everyone. I just like it when there's not a lot of stuff around where I live. But this house is highly personalized for the person who lives there.
This article is very mean-spirited. The house is actually fairly well decorated for this type of interior and the owners have a lot of creativity. It's quite artistic and unique, I love that kitchen. It may be a little crowded and I'm not a big fan of pink interiors, but it's still more appealing to me than the minimalist, colorless bland styles that are popular today.
The kitchen and bathroom would be a problem but once the furniture and personal items like pictures and loose rugs are gone the other rooms would be just like any other house.

I really disagree with the comments of the pictures in this article. You sound mean. It is unusual house we all see but it is way too far to call it ugly. I think it is very artistry, skilfulness and interesting.
It’s not that bad remove the ugly patterned upholstery on furniture and drapes. get some solids like light greens blues yellows to brighten up the place. It’s not that bad. The paintings are cute and remind me of Beatrix Potter. I used to love Victorian. Devore when I was little. Now I prefer more traditional. But Beatrix Potter kitch is not so horrible if done right. And this is not. The kitchen & bathroom are adorable. The living dinning room not quite there yet. Needs solids. And too dark needs brightening. Solid light yellows blues and greeens would do it!

I think it looks like someone had a ton of fun making their home look exactly the way they wanted it. Now, they clearly had no thought as to resale value, and they're asking a bit much for something that will have to be completely re-done inside (although, we don't actually know the average price of homes in that neighborhood, unless someone wants to google it). It grosses me out, but I don't have to live there. So, as long as it's just a bit much "whimsy" and not a Texas Chainsaw Massacre theme ... live and let live.

The home feels like it should be on display for a ten minute tour of the art, and not lived in. It has this quality of being impressively awesome and dauntingly unlivable at the same time.

Small minded people can get confused when there is too much to look at. Perhaps one wall could be plain white so that they can stand and look at it when the overwhelming beautiful of color and form gets too much for the little guys.
