Just like Neo from The Matrix, we sometimes get a strange feeling deep in our guts that something is not quite right with the world. German artist Steffen Kraft, who also goes by the name Iconeo online, makes amazing social commentary pictures that highlight how ironic, weird and even hypocritical life can sometimes be.
Here are what we believe to be the most visually appealing pieces of Kraft’s unique artwork. So scroll down, upvote the ones you like, and share your thoughts in the comments. The thing is, plastic breaks down into smaller pieces, so there's no getting away from micro and nano plastic bits. The ocean is a stew of the stuff. And smaller plastics concentrate toxins greatly. But smaller plastics get ingested during feeding or even via breathing with gills. That umbrella means nothing. What's more, by 2050, it's projected that plastic will outweigh fish in the oceans.
We need to strive to have a smaller total population of humans.
Load More Replies...One thing to solve this.. ban plastic across the board. Mother Earth and her children will thank you. We have nowhere else to go but here.
The saddest thing is, we, including me, really didn't know what was happening with the plastic. Never crossed my mind in the 70s and 80s. No clue. Really wish I could go back and alter my ways. Surely the governments knew? I don't know, but I feel terrible shame today for something I had no clue about. Wish I could just go and scoop it all up.
Just unbearable. And the person squatting in the offal office is giving away straws.
And I thought Finding Nemo was sad... This here is the real Nemo, the reality of fish and sea creatures. I wonder what it must be like for them, they can't swim and live a proper simple fish existence, because of humans negligence and lordiness... Why are we so harmful!! More importantly, why do we make things that are harmful to environment?! Who created Plastic I wonder. I hope whoever you are resting in peace- but the sea isn't !! 😩
We didn't have the proper education about the plastic. We just didn't know. But government and others knew. :(
Load More Replies...Yeah this is sad, our future in a nut shell. We are so far from any type of Utopia. & a cool sci fi future with nothing but trash in our oceans.
Nope, it is actually the other way around. This is the exception to the rule. It is, of course, incredibly sad that in some cases this happens. My great grandfather had been to the market and bought a cod, a large one that was still alive. It was a rainy day, and, making his way home, with the cod wrapped in paper under his arm, he had a stroke and fell in a puddle. People passing by thought that he was dead drunk and so he laid there, not being able to articulate properly to ask for help until someone who knew him came by and saw him. He lived, paralyzed on one side, for well over a decade and I remember him from when I was little saying "The cod liked it a lot better than I did in that there puddle." with a smile in his eyes.
Load More Replies...there's actually a folktale I read years ago.. I read so many but this one stuck with me, idk why. I might as well narrate whatever i remember; so once upon a time there was a king who ruled the lands, he suddenly wanted to have a pond of milk. Told all villagers to have the pond/lake ready by the next morning. In the night every villager each went to the empty pond and one by one, they thought, "the next person will fill it with a bucket of milk" so everyone thought the other would fill it. Next morning the pond was emptyy. Moral of story: every person's effort makes big difference and fills up. If someone leaves it for others to chip in or give a bucketful, nothing will progress. Thanks to whoever read this, if you know the story correctly pls share :)
Thx, it's completely understandable story. I've been reading something similar, a long time ago.
Load More Replies...Unfortunately, what would make it even more accurate is if the guy was using his phone to take a video of the drowning instead of helping. This is the new low humans have sunk to.
It’s called the bystander effect. Also people(at least in the USA) are afraid to get sued, even though you are supposed to be protected by law.
To get sued? For what? For helping someone to not drown? I don't get it.
Load More Replies...It's either this reaction or people flock to help so they can go post it on Instagram and go viral.
Hey, if I am drowning and someone saves me for a post and goes viral on whatever forsaken social media they are on, I wouldn't mind at all. I will still thank them for saving my life. You know why? Because, I got saved and didn't die. Does it really matter what reason someone have to save a person who's in danger?
Load More Replies...This iteration of our planet. We’ll all die and the planet will still be here. However, it’s highly likely that what survives after will be limited.
Load More Replies...While this is sad, most companies (good ones at least) plant a couple of trees for each one they cut down. Not all of them, tho, and in my opinion it should be required.
Aye, but chopping them down takes minutes, regrowing them takes years. And often, the new tres planted are (for that very reason) often "fast growing", non-native trees
Load More Replies...I figured more nature is getting destroyed for the over population of people needing more space.
Never cut down a tree unless it's a danger to be left up, or is very sick and can spread it's disease. Always replace with another.
Bored Panda reached out to Iconeo to learn more about him, the way he creates his meaningful art, and the philosophy that hides behind each thought-provoking picture. When asked about the main inspiration for his art, Kraft replied that he find creative ideas in both small and large things.
“On the one hand, I'm inspired by little things, like my pencil, a cup of coffee or toilet paper. These little objects are icons. Everybody knows them. We don't have to think about their function when we see them. It's good brain training trying to place these things in a different situation. Sometimes, the results are meaningful, sometimes not.”
Dumber meets dumber. Add Boris and there'll be a battle for the tweedle-dumbest title.
Trump and Kim Jong are not even remotely the same. Trump has done fantastic things for America, both security wise and finacially Kim Jong Un is a murdering dictator that follows no rules but his own, if Trump was remotely like Kim Jong he wouldn't have any critics as they'd all be dead! As for Boris, he's only doing what the majority of the country has asked. This article is offensive therefore it must be banned and the writer must be publically shamed and loose his career for writing something I disagree with!!!!!! Or does that only work with the weak and liberal, virtue signalling lefty idiots?????? Just remember "Trump will never be president" Remember that? Now the lies have continued to develop to this rubbish!!!

Government brainwash. Thousands die for the desires of a few.
Yep. Cannon fodder. Young men used before their brains have matured. It's a deliberate war tactic. The war mongers living in luxury and/or bunkers.
This would be more of the type of situation discussed by the article if it weren't for the fact that there are a significant number of people out there who (for a variety of reasons) do want to kill others, who don't want to kill them. Despite what some may want to think, misunderstandings aren't the cause of most conflicts, let alone wars.
The country doesn't profit from these lost lives, the war profiteers do, and maybe the undertakers.
Unfortunately, the ones getting bombed these days are already in a state of war and causing extreme harm to their own peoples
Load More Replies...Moreover if it's an old worldwide wellknown sentence like this one.
Load More Replies...So when someone tosses a bomb into a civilian target in your country, it’s wrong to bomb the place the missile it was fired from? I mean, you’ve got to destroy the missile so it doesn’t keep bombing you, don’t you? If you bomb just that missile, isn’t that in essence, ‘bombing for peace’? That’s not wrong, is it? What about if you text and call and otherwise warn everyone in the target area so they can evacuate? What about if you drop a concussive device to shake up the area and give everyone a final warning two minutes before? What about if you use a drone camera whenever bombing a building and halt the bombing if you see a bunch of kids pushed out on the roof to act as human shields? I only know of one country that does all these things.

The peace sign in the corner- that makes me sad. As if u have no chance of changing the world.
This is truly chilling. It is mindboggling to me that the NRA, a small organization, continues to have such an influence over politics and laws in the US.
Luckily, Nelson Mandela, Malala Yousafzai, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Rosa Park, and many others didn't think so. Just need many more to think differently and take action.

I know that kind of thought though.. "I'm just one me" and "how can I make a world of a change?" later when I saved a tiny kitten from hunger and homelessness.. It did feel like that small change meant a huge difference, like it meant the world of a difference. And, when I also save small spiders or ants life I feel like it must be really hard to be an ant or spider, I couldn't do a good job being an insect as they do so well (though sometimes, I do think I can be a good honeybee). The point is that making a small effort for a positive change does count, there are so many ants in the world but that one ant saved might have just been me (idk where this scenario is going, it's 10 PM and I'm really talkative rn ) o_O

The world is still f****d. They didn't do it alone. They had lots and lots of help. The problem in my opinion is people trying to change the world.
You, just you - change one plastic item into a non-plastic alternative per month, or stop using it altogether. That is 12 plastic items less in the next year's time. Then multiply that with the population of your town, your state or county, your country... Believe me, manufacturers and business people WILL listen when millions of people suddenly stop buying XX and pick up the competitor, instead! And that is STILL just you making the change :) Each time you manage to drop an unnecessary plastic something, tell others or take a picture and share it with #1plasticless.
Climate change is happening, people!!!!!! If we don’t act now to at least greatly reduce the rate at which it’s happening, our future children won’t have a hospitable planet to call home!!
Jeremy Zimmerman, you posted the link to a speech by the late Hans Rosling, (Why the world population won’t exceed 11 billion | Hans Rosling | TGS.ORG) Rosling was a fantastic communicator, thoroughly enjoyable, and I sincerely recommend all BPandas to look him up. The thing is, half the 11 billion population would be several billion people too many. The future looks dim.
Should be one human hanging there by a noose!! INDIVIDUALS -- take action now!!
I'm an old woman who is near my end here. I always wanted grandchildren until I saw what climate change, wars, and hatred was doing to our world. Now, I'm grateful I didn't. Sad to say, but it's true.
Fake news... this has been debunked by a Nobel Prize winner. Don't fall for the hype politicians want you to believe only to fill their pockets. Yes we all have to be self aware of the environment but it is something we all have to do on our own..! Not by putting ludicrous amounts of money in the hands of politicians...
The current economic model that practically all countries/industries adhere to is based on an ever-expanding economy, but what to do if everybody already has all they need? Right. More humans will consume more. The parasitic pests will always proliferate until the host dies, and the risk here is that we humans are not at all as smart as we think we are. "U are what U do, not what U think U are." That makes us, we, you and me, into destroyers of the only planet we will ever know. We are s******g in our own bed.
Kraft believes that in our daily routine, we are “overwhelmed with images and impressions”, which is why we lose the ability to “self-reflect and to see the world from a different point of view.”
The world tries to satisfy every man's need, but doesn't succeed for every man's greed
Now that in many cases is a misunderstanding. Many homeless do want money to come by somewhat, but it's the burden of joining society (since it spat them out) that doesn't necessarily make them want to have a lot of it. If every attempt to be a responsible person ends up in failure, then having nothing is sometimes easier. And that says a lot about our society.
I really think it's not exactly about wishing to have more money, especially from the homleless person's thought. I guess, and I'm just thinking deeply about this perhaps homeless people give up to quickly about accumalating any money, and if they do have a pocketful- it feels too much because they know the worth of a little. A little goes along way for them, as opposed to the rich person. His pocket is full but I think it could make his shoes, pants, shirt etc feel empty. Happiness can be found in money, but mostly can be found at heart.
Right? I wanna think that the beggar is more free and laughs about the suit-guy :)

This is so on track with what you see . I live in a small town in Montana but travel to Seattle WA every EASTER for cosplay convention . while I was there people and I am talking about the majority of people were walking around just like this illustration they didn't even look up when they were crossing the crosswalk in front of traffic. I guess they assume all drivers follow the rules.plus I am originally from the south and so I say hi to everyone not one person looked up or said hi back wait one person did but they looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language . This is who we now are in this world and it worries me when I think of my grandkids being taught or just shown that this is correct it is not. Our first language is talking to one another lets keep this new generation on the right path .
I've lived in Seattle for 11 years now and almost every week I almost hit a pedestrian crossing the street, with their faces plastered to their smartphone. They don't even bother to look before crossing, they just assume that cars will stop for them, even though a car can't stop instantly, especially when it's raining (which it does a lot in Seattle).

If you feel lonely, call (no text) someone you like. Make time, if possible, to hang out. Doesn't have to be something fancy, a walk in the park, city, etc will do. Choose a free activity like chasing for Geocaches. Good luck!
they don't pick up. they don't pick up. they don't reply. they are busy. they don't answer. thanks for the advice tho! maybe there are people who never had the idea to call their friends before and this can be useful for them

Just because you aren't vegan doesn't mean that you hate animals.
Yeah but isn't the point of this to show how bizarre it is that someone is thinking they love animals whilst knawing away the bone of something they claim to 'love'?
Load More Replies...I'm a vegetarian and to everyone saying that eating meat doesn't mean you hate animals, I agree. Just treat them humanely and don't eat SO much meat that it affects our climate.
You're an example for other vegans who are forcing their lifestyle on others. Thx for not being short minded :)
Load More Replies...I think that this is saying that if you aren't vegan you can't say you love animals because you are responsible for the abuse and death of many animals that you supposedly love. It's like saying that you love dogs while going to the Yulin festival. People who eat animals love dogs and cats and other pets, but they don't love all animals.
You missed the point. If a person truly loves animals, that person doesn't exploit, consume, or abuse animals. That's the way love works. If you love children, you don't sell them into slavery. If you love nature, you don't start forest fires and dump chemicals in lakes. If you love animals, you don't eat them. This is elementary ethics.
I think its sad all the food tossed. How much meat is throw away on a daily basis. If its not ate... Its going in the trash anyways. How much "meat" is thrown away? Jails, hospitals, nursing homes, restaurants, stores & home. Each day. If someone gave me meat, I'd eat it... Better then it 100% being killed then trashed.
People in this comment section are honestly calling vegans hypocrites for killing bugs. As if it's the same as killing pigs or cows or chickens. That's sad. Bugs don't actually give a c**p if they die. Sure they try to defend themselves when attacked, but that's just natural selection and evolution. Bugs are stupid and aren't even aware that they are alive. They don't even feel pain like we do. They don't suffer. Are you people aware of just how badly cows, pigs, chickens are treated? They are all kept in pens so small that they can't even turn around. They never get to see the sun. They are suffering. And the poor chickens. They are kept so close together that they get agitated and start pecking each other to death. So people cut off their claws and beaks to prevent that. And no humans don't need meat as part of our diet. That's b******t that you people keep spreading so that you don't feel as bad about what you're doing to those poor animals.
And free range farms are also b******t. Yes they are better for the animals, but still aren't perfect. Meat production uses up a LOT of our resources. Especially free range farms which use a lot more resources. Meat production is one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) contributor to global warming. Meat production is killing this planet. We can survive without meat. People claim that we can't get the protein we need from plants, but that is a lie. We can get just as much and sometimes even more protein from plants. Not to mention plant proteins are better for you than animal proteins. There is little to no reason why humans should still be eating animals. I'm not saying that meat eaters are bad people. I'm just saying that we need to work together to end all this pointless suffering.
Load More Replies...It is showing how hypocritical most people are when they say they live animals as they are woofing down a burger. Most don't love animals. They love pets. Dogs are food in parts of China, etc., but not here. If you truly love animals a dog is a pig is a snake or bug!
I love all animals, including pigs, snakes, and bugs, and guess what? I still eat meat.

And the thread with the most comments goes to the one that triggers meat eaters into being defensive and hating on vegans for “moral arrogance”...

Meet mr polar bear. Polar bear is trying to find food. He fishes off the ice. We as humans by destroying the ice caps are making this harder for polar bears. Polar bears can swim, but not hunt. If the polar bear can't swim around and catch food he drowns because he gets tired. Polar bear can smell the bins on the mainland so he goes off for food. The other day some polar bears were shot and killed because they were hungry. What are we doing to help? Sorry about the grammar

Yes, it means the Arctic AND the Antarctic will be melted one day. In Germany we say "Wir sitzen alle in einem Boot", we are all together in the same boat.
Load More Replies...We really need to never, ever mention polar bears in reference to climate change anymore. Too many people are like, "Well, who cares about one species up north?" Or, "the polar bears will adapt". It's affecting many, many, many species in every area of the world. There was a mini-series about it in Minnesota, US about how birds up north try to hatch at the same time of year as always, but the bugs they need to eat come out earlier, so the hatchlings starve. And the tries up north won't be able to survive, but will die before the southern-type trees have a chance to move north. Just two of countless examples of the changes already being seen. And this affects farmers, lakes, forest management, wild game, agriculture, all things that the narrow-minded DO care about.
Humans can restore the planet and care for it, or completely ruin it. Unfortunately, the second option seems to be what we are going with.

The vast majority of plastic comes from just a few rivers in China and India. They don't have trash pickup there, so people just toss all of their garbage into these rivers, which then feed into the ocean. Short of helping those countries with their waste disposal, the oceans will continue to fill with plastic.
It doesn't matter. We all are responsible. Even the turtles can't keep all the waste we leave... It's sad that turtles have to clean another species' mess
Animals are washing ashore dead with stomachs full of waste and plastic
Thank the 3rd Worlders -- 90% of the trash in the oceans comes from them. But we also need smarter turtles who can distinguish between food and trash...perhaps they'll survive long enough to evolve this ability to distinguish.
why joke about this kind of thing?! were you dropped on your head multiple times?! insensitive, moronic turdbomb
Load More Replies...It takes other people a while to see the harm of pollution irl too

Death is playing this game every day, every time he plucks a heart, the persons life is about to end. If death drops it you live another day, but every day death is constantly picking up your heart and dropping it, death will keep trying until he gets it.
WARNING: Do not use plastic straws! Feel free to use plastic plates, pens, plastic anything else.. and of course products in plastic package. It's also ok to use products (of any material) that small children make in places outside your country. But please, do not use plastic straws or bags. Plastic life. One use only. Only for you.
I do wonder how many are going to read your post with the sarcasm needed. We Need To Change Many Of Our Habits.
Load More Replies...Sure, don’t use plastic straws; however, they are such a small percentage of the waste that is found.
Ditto -- the mirror again -- take individual action. It's the only thing you have in your control...
If i use metal straws is that better or was the production of them worse?
I'm going to use plastic straws until a better alternative comes around. The paper ones aren't cutting it. They always get soggy and nasty after a short time.
They make many alternatives. You can order a whole pack of silicone straws on amazon. Also make metal ones but I prefer the silicone

'Everyone over consumes!' Says every super-cliche '90s art school kid in their pictures. 'I'm going to show that consumerism has taken over!!' So original. Of course the person saying this always seems to do so through the internet, lives in a city, travels by plane if they can and sips organic coffee - in other words they consume a ton of resources too. Of course they do, it's pretty hard not to. They're never actually saying: 'B/c of over-consumption I'm now going to live off the grid and/or like an Amish person.' Well that's okay, I don't expect anyone else to live that way, but then you can't really complain when others consume things, can you?
I can complain that businesses began using single serving packages heavily in the 90s instead of stay with reusable containers. Then they slap a recycling symbol on it to make every believe stuff actually gets recycled. Yet, over 25% of recyclables are put in landfills because of contamination. Recycling companies don't care because most of them are owned by landfill companies so they get paid either way. There is no set standard for recycling and what can be recycled, it varies based on the recycling plant. Most plastic items are also only recycled once before being put in a landfill anyways because it's cheaper to make something new than to reuse something.
Load More Replies...Yes, I agree, they are very well executed and they also provided a much more enjoyable and thought-provoking experience than I expected. I would like to see more of Steffen Kraft's work.
Load More Replies...At least some artists recycle the old "whats wrong with out society" subject very good.No waste, all well used over and over again
Exactly! No one has done more to reuse and recycles ideas than this artist, and it also has reduced something in me too.
