50 Important, Interesting And Random Events That Happened 30 Years Ago, As Shared On This Nostalgic Online Group
As the days go by, time seems to move faster and faster. It's hard to believe that another year has come and gone. It feels like only yesterday that we were celebrating the start of a new year.
At the same time, our perception of time is subjective. Some will say that they just had the longest week, others will argue that the whole year, if not more, has passed in a glimpse of an eye.
Same with decades, and even half centuries. Most of my fellow millennials who were born in the '90s and are now in their 20s or 30s will feel like only yesterday we drank Capri Sun, listened to Avril Lavigne, and watched Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone.
So if you have been struggling to keep up with the passing time, this entertaining corner of Reddit known as “Thirty Years Ago” is a perfect place to give the past the accolades it deserves. The community is dedicated to “celebrating anniversaries” and sharing the most important, memorable, and sometimes random events and moments that turned thirty and more this year.

I love that she didn’t win. She wasn’t automatically handed the race just because she was the princess.

When asked how he started the community, Klsi832 said that there were already two similar subreddits that he liked, “Ten and Twentyyearsago.” After finding out that “Thirty Years Ago” was available, he started running it.

Since its launch on September 4, 2016, the subreddit grew and today it is home to 10.8k subscribers. “I used to be the only one that ever submitted any posts, but now other people do, too,” the moderator said. He added that these days, he posts much more there than he used to.
When asked what the audience of “Thirty Years Ago” is like, the moderator guesses that “it’s mostly older people nostalgic for the past. And maybe some younger people who weren’t around yet but want to learn a little about history.”

When concert tickets were actually affordable for non-rich teens to attend
Seriously. Nosebleed tickets for a show like that now would be $200+
Load More Replies...That admission price is 40$ [not 210$, I miscalculated] today. Pretty expensive but worth it. Let me point out the absolute absence of "pre-sales commissions" and "convenience fees"...
The dollars has a little more than doubled since 1992, so I do not know where you have 210 dollars from? 19,50 dollars in 1992 equals 41,38 dollars in todays money.
Load More Replies...1992, I went to see Metallica and Guns & Roses. The opening act was Faith no More. That was an awesome show.
I was at the infamous Montreal concert of that tour on August 8, 1992. Faith no More was the most concert we got that night. Then, James Hetfield got burned on stage (pyrotechnics issue) during Fade to Black intro. Waited 2,5 hours for Guns to show up onstage, they played only 45 minutes and quit. Frustrated people then rioted the place (Montreql Olympic Stadium). I was 16, had just gotten my driver's license and drove from Quebec City in ny parent's borrowed car. So many memories.
Load More Replies...Seen RHCP and Pearl Jam but not Nirvana. I've still got a Nirvana ticket for Cardiff in August of 1994 makes me sad every time I look at it, maybe I shouldn't have framed it and put it on my wall.
The late 60s was pretty damn good, too. Right my fellow oldies?
Load More Replies...I saw the Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam at Lollapalooza later on that year. It was my first music festival and the start of me being away from home for college. That was a hell of a day and the first of many groups I was lucky enough to see over the next five years.
$20 was still quite a bit back then. I remember having to spend $25 for smashing pumpkins and I think $30-35 for Beastie boys.
Load More Replies...I am so jealous. Every time I see videos of Pearl Jam concerts from the 90’s, I’m so disappointed I never got to go. And all 3 of them sounds amazing!
I went to the New Year's Eve show of this tour - The Cow Palace in San Francisco
I think I still have my Guns N' Roses/Brian May concert ticket when I saw them in the early 90s.
DANG! $19.50! That ticket would be $250.00, with19.50 actual ticket price and the other $230 being fees! Ugh!
Apparently the lyrics, 'first time I saw you, you were sitting back stage in a dress, a perfect mess' was a about Kurt Cobain. Wonder if this is where and when Anthony Keidus first met him?
My friends and I paid a whole $5 each for our tickets to the Beatles'' 1965 Shea Stadium concert.
This makes me think of standing in line outside of the blockbuster for the ticketmaster kiosk everytime there was a good concert nearby... yes I am that old 😔
Cool! I have a stash of those same guitar picks lol Dunlops are great. Would have been one hell of a show too
Wow, I forgot they had toured together. Missed this one. I think this is the year I saw GNR/Metallica together. Holy c**p, what a show. And THOSE tickets were only like $20 too.
For $19.50. Today that show's seating would start at $400 for "obstructed view" and go to $6000.
$19.50 AND by today's standards, the beer was fairly cheap. I think I might have spent $50 that day and I remember freaking out because I had never spent that much money, that I earned myself, on myself, in just a few hours. It was worth every damned penny.
Load More Replies...$19.50 for the ticket. Where did they sit? In the front row I hope at that price.
Please just shut up, It's clear you don't like them, But a lot of people {including me} really like their music!
Load More Replies...According to Klsi832, “the '90s seemed pretty hopeful, pop culture was better in a lot of ways (especially music). There wasn’t internet quite yet so people interacted more.” He added that the era feels nostalgic to him “because the early '90s was probably the best time of my life.”

Nostalgia is a feeling of longing or wistfulness for a time in the past. It can be triggered by something as simple as a song, a smell, or a photo. For many of us, nostalgia is a way to connect with our childhoods, or a time when things felt simpler. In a world that is constantly changing, nostalgia can be a way to hold on to something that feels familiar.
For some people, nostalgia is a way to escape the present. It can be a way to cope with difficult times, or a way to remember a time when things were better. Nostalgia can also be a way to connect with others who have shared experiences. When we talk about the things we remember fondly, it can create a sense of closeness and understanding.

However, nostalgia can have a downside. If we dwell too much on the past, it can prevent us from living in the present. It can also make us yearn for a time that never really existed. We might idealize the past and forget the less pleasant aspects of it.

Dear BP, If you're going to rerun old posts you could at least correct the headline on this one to 31 years ago.
Good timing to come across this article! I'll be 30 on September 28 😅
