Women’s’ rights
Yeah, I don’t understand why this is downvoted either… do people not think women’s rights are in jeopardy? I mean, if they don’t live in the US maybe nothing has changed in their world so this doesn’t impact them. Being American, Roe v Wade being overturned is terrifying to me.
Affordable food at the grocery store. It’s fine, it’s not like I need food to survive.

Yep. In china, everything you do once you set foot out of ur home is recorded.
Social acceptance for cigarette smoking in public. Like the old-fashioned light-them-on-fire tobacco smokes.
I go all over for work, and it’s a noticeable event if someone smells like smoke. No buildings seem to have smoking areas anymore, even the butt cans are rare sightings. Can you even imagine someone lighting up *inside a restaurant*? People still do it, but they almost have to hide it, only smoking at home or in their cars or vaping while out and about. When you come out of a store and you smell cigarette smoke, it’s noticeable because it’s not always there. The difference from 10 years ago is huge. 20 years ago this would be unimaginable.
I am severely asthmatic and if I have to walk through some employee's cigarette smoke to enter a business, I turn around and take my business elsewhere. Not worth it.
I'm a smoker and I hate smoking around entrances. I have had to do it at certain jobs (gas stations) because I worked overnight and had to remain visible to the cameras for "my safety" but even then I stood where the smoke would blow away from the entrance. Now I don't smoke within 50 feet of an entrance. Sigh, I will actually walk further off if I see children or elderly getting out of a car or walking near me. I don't even smoke near my kids outside, they have to be inside the car or house while we smoke outside. I don't think it's right to force someone to inhale/smell my smoking unless they are seeking it out. It's not that hard for me to walk a bit extra to make sure my smoke isn't affecting someone.
Load More Replies...Of all things on this list, I for one am glad that cigarettes are disappearing.
hear hear! Smoking is lame and the butts are bad for the Earth.
Load More Replies...That horrible bad breath... Smokers don't seem to know that their bad breath can be felt from a distance.
True. But sometimes nonsmokers' breaths are so stinky I kinda want them to pickup smoking
Load More Replies...so true, i literally choke on all perfume and fragrance which people seem to be drowning themselves in/
Load More Replies...Smoking used to be permitted on aeroplanes-the back few rows were designated smoking rows. Obviously the smoke stench didn't confine itself to the back few rows though. My parents both smoked heavily, as did the majority of people in the 70s. We must all have absolutely stunk all the time. These days, the smell of it turns my stomach. Kissing a smoker-yuck.
Can't upvote this enough. I can not stand the smell of tobacco smoke, even worse when it's stale 😝
And i can't stand a smell of pot on every corner... but wait..it is now for medicinal reasons, right? hahahah
Load More Replies...Smoking needs to go away. I'm happy it's not generally accepted and thrilled more and more people are realizing how awful it is for them.
Thank God! I’m allergic to cigarette smoke and will display all of the classic symptoms of an environmental allergy if I’m exposed to cigarette smoke even remotely.
Oh people are just so precious. I remember when they banned smoking indoors. Because the pub is like going to the gym right? So everyone was, well that seems reasonable. No reason we can't be considerate. We will smoke outside. And the whinging and moaning got louder. Give an inch. Some peoples voices and thoughts are bad for my health. Who shall I complain too? Lets make another law? We don't have enough rules clearly.
20 years ago after a night in a pub your clothes and your hair smelled like smoke...
Interesting that people feel that damaging others lungs especially in closed areas is a right. I worked when smoking by employees in hospitals was ok. What were people thinking? Causing harm has never been a right.
You are considered a pariah if you light up even outside now. In most cities, you can't smoke on a city street or in a city park, or around public bldgs. There's a reason for that. Indoors, second hand smoke us a real health hazard. Outdoors, hard to say how diluted that smoke is. I just quit 2 months ago. I'm cold turkey now and every day is a struggle. But worse than that, is the struggle of dying from emphysema or cancer. It's a tough way to go.
Anti smoking whingers. But they have noooo problem with multi national conglomerates feeding the masses trans fats and sugars and enjoying nice big juicy profit margins. Its all void now anyway. Wear a mask! If you are outside and getting offended by wafts of smoke you probably need a good mirror looking. Have you seen what is going on out there in the world? I am surprised more haven't taken it up. The way food prices are going maybe more people will? The last bit is sarcasm and I cannot believe I even have to say that these days.
Offended? Have you ever struggled to take a breath? A bad diet is a choice. Asthmatics have no choice; life depends upon breathing. I wear a mask in spite of the further restriction it places on breathing. It's pretty hard to worry about corporate profit margins when you're just hoping to get to the hospital in time to survive. Perhaps if you were threatened with suffocation as a result of others' deadly habits on a regular basis, you'd be a little bit whingy yourself.
Load More Replies...Totally true, now all you can smell everywhere around me is skunks because all the people are just casually smoking pot everywhere instead and it freaking stinks just as bad if not worse than cigarettes.
Illegal to smoke in or too close o public buildings in most of Canada and in some places, outdoor venues that attract children, like parks. Outdoor amusement parks can designate an outdoor smoking area, children are not allowed in
Same with US for government buildings. Official buildings require smoking areas be at least 50 feet away.

Load More Replies...I was a casual smoker back in the day because that’s what we did in the 80’s but now I can’t stand the smell. My late father-in-law was a smoker and as his caregiver I would take him to hospital appointments for his bone cancer treatments. Well sometimes on the coldest winter days here in Canada the damn windows of their stupid Jeep Patriot (gutless vehicle) wouldn’t roll down even after I tried everything, so I was suffering with the smoke while driving in a closed vehicle. I would stop periodically and bang on them to see if the warm interior air loosen them. Sometimes I was lucky.
I've seen an uptick in both snus and tobacco free nicotine pouches from this. Some are spitless from my understanding. Hell I've worked with someone who does this for years and didn't know until I caught him putting one in
In my country we have strict laws against it and they're being made stricter, e.g. not allowed to place tobacco products near childrens' products so as to avoid incentivising kids. It's basically banned everywhere except your private garden. HOWEVER in practice, most people still smoke in their cars, and at nightclubs forget it, no one gives a f**k, they still smoke.
considering you handle, this comment is funny as hell
Load More Replies...I get that, and yes, once you think about it, it is very noticeable. Yesterday I was in a local deli and while waiting for my sandwich the man behind me ordered a pack of Newports. It was TWELVE DOLLARS! Absolutely unbelievable! I recall getting TWO cartons for that money! I don't know how anyone can even afford it anymore! Yet, my neighbors across the street spend most of their time outside on their balcony smoking! I mean literally most of their time! Great folks, we really like them. It's a lot though...
Maybe don't treat smokers like second class citizens. Not everyone wants to be on medication to curb the anxiety of working with the public. As Bill Hicks said "nonsmokers I have news for you and you only. Nonsmokers die every day. Sleep tight". It's a choice, not an opportunity to judge someone
This is why I swapped to vaping... I've done worse to myself than start smoking, but when policies start removing smoke stations then I'll just vape wherever I can. That said a lot of smokers/vapers are inconsiderate and let their smoke/vapor go wherever, DONT LET IT GET IN OTHERS FACE, THATS BACTERIA FROM YOUR LUNGS AS WELL!
What is this post doing? Complaining that the world is getting away from cancer sticks or celebrating it? Cause this just makes me think of Jen from The IT Crowd 🙄
I for one am glad that social acceptance for forcing others into breathing in your toxic life threatening choices is gone. Same goes for vaping. Second hand vape smoke hurts my lungs more than traditional cigarettes.
I purchased a used car a few years ago and the previous owner must have been a smoker. The car lot did great at trying to get the smell out because it wasn't until 8 months later that the New Car smell was gone and the smoker smell started creeping through. I now keep it loaded with refresheners. But, that smoke smell still creeps through every now and again.
Pot became legal in Michigan,us a few years ago.over 21 and at home. Yet I have seen people smoking joints on there way to grocery store from car! Driving smell "skunk" weed smell almost Everytime driving. It's illegal to smoke while driving or in public yet, everywhere. I had no problem voting yes cuz people shouldn't do years in jail for marijuana but, I had no idea I would b subjecting my little gir n other children to the smell or a contact frickin high Everytime we go out!! I guess cops have no noses.smh
Contact high is the biggest myth next to the flat earth theory. Unless you are in a non-ventilated room with people chain smoking copious amounts, your daughter will get the same buzz as she would sitting next to someone drinking a beer...
Load More Replies...In my county if your living unit shares a wall with another you cannot smoke inside.
I got one year of my life where I could smoke inside a bar, and that was 20 years ago now. The cancer sticks are on their way out. One way or another, people just don't want them any more.
Why on earth are cigarettes still sold? They offer nothing to the end user, except a lifetime of health issues.
Yay! Smoking is horrible for ones health, and I am glad that the education on tgis topic gas gotton more thourogh. Unfortunetly, these cigarette companies are now targeting third world countries.
This comes down to common sense and courtesy. One should never have to walk through the smoking section to get to the non-smoking section (which still happens). I live in Las Vegas. The Wynn allows smoking but you'd never know it, however the Flamingo will make your eyes water!
I just wish we could do something about this smog, yea cigerretee smoke is bad, not denying that. Yet gas powered cars create so much pollution we can't have fresh air even if there werent smokers around. My teacher use to say, as soon as you walk out your door, the smog slaps you and infiltrates your lungs. Basically we have no chance (triple that in a city) for fresh air thanks to these pollutants. Yes we need to curve cigarettes but what can we do about the smog
Good riddance to this one. Smoking is horrible for you and for air quality.
They are not vanishing fast enough in Europe. I was a bartender when they made smoking in bars illegal and had a little dance of joy. Still see smokers everywhere outside though.
When I quit back in the 80s, we could still smoke in the office, hospital and movie theaters.
Not a bad thing to disapear, in NL yiu are not alowed te smoke in restaurants ore clubs and cafes. Not on the premises of hospitals and other health institutes. Just stop. You end op in hospotal, they give you nicotine band aids.
I believe smoking in restaurants (and bars) is banned in something like 35 US states and in many European countries as well, so yes, take those elsewhere please. And to anyone who thinks they're "hiding" their smoking: Everyone can smell the stench you're making, and it will be in your hair and clothes for hours. You're hiding NOTHING.
I can't speak for everyone, but I have a very deep set trauma with the smell of tobacco, especially the smoke. And it's a C/PTSD kind. It's not cute, laughable or snowflakey. It's a problem I'm working on with my therapist because of my parent. The ban on smoking indoors was the best thing that happened for me. Thankfully, I live in a state that smokes a loooooot of weed. That's okay. It's a nice smell most of the time
Can we get this for multi unit homes as well? There is nothing like having neighbor's second hand smoke streaming into your home every day and night.
I know a restaurant with a Michelin star cuisine. If you have made a reservation and someone in the party smells of alcohol or cigarettes, you are not welcome and you will be send away.
That actually is one of those that need to be gobe faster. Seriously cigarette should never be seen in public.
NFTs
And I hope they continue to fall in popularity because honestly they weren’t even popular to begin with, just a fad peddled by the rich.
Faith in the future of humanity
I disagree. I come on boardpanda on a regular basis and I find my faith in humanity restored regularly
Leisure time. Unless you're wealthy it's shocking to have any time off. Monday I had my first sick day in over a year and I was told I still need to make up my hours even if it means working overtime.
Even when you aren't working, shifts are so long it feels like you're losing your whole day and your days off are the only chance you have to catch up on cleaning and doctor's appointments and maintaining your life that it's hard to find the time to do any leisure activities. Just watching TV or making a meal feels like such a time investment because there's so little time to waste.
DVDs.
It’s been going on for a bit now but it’s still crazy how fast they went from king to nothing
Given the cost of living crisis a lot of folks are cancelling their streaming subscriptions. Many are either buying 2nd hand discs and /or ripping their media to have portable collections - that they actually own 😃
Cash… 2022 has seen a sharp rise in card only transactions
Honestly? Cheap and neat finds at antique/thrift stores. Most places upcharge outrageous amounts for the items they get in, especially if it's a legitimate antique or unique item. On top of that, a lot of what's being sold now are nicknacks and decorative items that were made cheap at the time, and no one wants anymore.
I think we're also phasing out of the cheap product phase for everything, or at least slowing down. More and more people are choosing to repurpose their items or try and fix them, rather than just tossing and buying something new. Repurposing is even easier than ever thanks to the internet, it's no longer a struggle to figure out how to fix s**t and to buy missing parts and tools that you'd need to get the job done.
My local op shop has two buildings, one is the usual cheap things and cheap clothes and the other is the higher end stuff like vintage clothes or collectibles. It works well.
Term lengths of UK pm's
I've heard they've installed a revolving door at #10 Downing 😉
Having a savings account.
24 hour Walmarts
I live in a 24hr city, and I feel for those who work nights and struggle to do their shopping now.
I think the straw has broken the camel's back on laughtrack sitcoms; How I Met your Father is the first one ive seen in years to use one and its... not good
Its jarring to see
So id say those are finally phasing out, with the norm being laughteack free funnies (which have existed for years now ofc, but are becoming the standard)
Manned registers.
not in africa, we have too many unemployed people. We need job creation.
Would love to add:. Affordable new and used cars. Paying 30% more now for the same car on the lot two years ago is crushing
Here it is more expensive to get a used car than a new one because you have to wait 9 months for a new one to come in from the manufacturer (18 months for hybrids)!
Load More Replies...Anything giving an individual pleasure and or joy will soon be phased out because it will offend someone else.
DVDs (I'm going to include Blu-ray here as well) have been mentioned. Physical media for games and production S/w that one owns is disappearing as well. Depending on an unreliable Internet connection to prove ownership much less access to the software (and the user generated files) is a rip off. Mind you one could foresee this with Tax software in the '90s that made your income tax forms locked to the software.
Now I'm really depressed. Too much pessimism for me as an old person nearing 80. 😢
It's true though this is the world now. It's not pessimistic it's facts

Newspapers. One can still buy them, but why bother when everything is online?
True but reading an actual newspaper used to be a pleasure. And looking forward to the colour comics as a child? Good times! Too bad they are gone…
Load More Replies...I was just coming to say "people having different opinions and being civil about it". Freaking ridiculous how polarized everything is, and how much people dislike not being an echo chamber.
Load More Replies...I don't think anyone of reasonable intelligence has a problem with diversity of opinions, as long as they're backed up with rational arguments.
