Yeah, I don’t understand why this is downvoted either… do people not think women’s rights are in jeopardy? I mean, if they don’t live in the US maybe nothing has changed in their world so this doesn’t impact them. Being American, Roe v Wade being overturned is terrifying to me.

Social acceptance for cigarette smoking in public. Like the old-fashioned light-them-on-fire tobacco smokes.
I go all over for work, and it’s a noticeable event if someone smells like smoke. No buildings seem to have smoking areas anymore, even the butt cans are rare sightings. Can you even imagine someone lighting up *inside a restaurant*? People still do it, but they almost have to hide it, only smoking at home or in their cars or vaping while out and about. When you come out of a store and you smell cigarette smoke, it’s noticeable because it’s not always there. The difference from 10 years ago is huge. 20 years ago this would be unimaginable.
I am severely asthmatic and if I have to walk through some employee's cigarette smoke to enter a business, I turn around and take my business elsewhere. Not worth it.

Leisure time. Unless you're wealthy it's shocking to have any time off. Monday I had my first sick day in over a year and I was told I still need to make up my hours even if it means working overtime.
Even when you aren't working, shifts are so long it feels like you're losing your whole day and your days off are the only chance you have to catch up on cleaning and doctor's appointments and maintaining your life that it's hard to find the time to do any leisure activities. Just watching TV or making a meal feels like such a time investment because there's so little time to waste.

Given the cost of living crisis a lot of folks are cancelling their streaming subscriptions. Many are either buying 2nd hand discs and /or ripping their media to have portable collections - that they actually own 😃

I still buy DVDs/BluRays. I like actually owning the thing and being able to reliably access it for the next 20-50 years. Only series and movies I've rewatched at least once and want to watch again though.
I like to have a DVD waiting reliably on my shelf. With streaming services, you never know when they are going to delete the film you want to see, or make you buy the download, etc. Amazon Prime Video is the worst.
Or not being able to watch a movie you own because the Wi-Fi is down, unreliable, or the speed has been slowed down due to too much traffic.

My disk library is growing. They've become so inexpensive and I don't have to subscribe to a dozen streaming services.
I still buy dvds. Just been slow with many good movies due to the pandemic. But hoping for some more of my favorite show seasons to release on dvd. I love dvds more due to living in a rural area with only limited internet options available.
New cars don't come with a CD player at all. Mine has a USB port. The problem is that I listen to audio books and the overly helpful player tries to organize the books into artists / albums / songs. I have to rip the CDs and put them on a stick one CD at a time and hope they play in order. It would be nice if they still offered a CD option.
I can't buy songs from Amazon anymore. To download them, Amazon requires full access to all files on your device. Scine I have secure files that Amazon can't access, it won't download. Nobody at Amazon will answer why they need access to accounting, payroll, my medical files, etc.

That's a real problem where I work. I need to be able to show film clips in school lessons, but we have fewer and fewer working DVD players. And we aren't allowed to use streaming services in school.
I was actually getting ready to dig up my box of DVDs at my moms. They’re tangible, with commentary, in a world where i feel increasingly uncomfortable ‘buying’ things with revocable licences.
I still have and buy dvds. I don't trust the digital copy to not disappear.

I'd rather own a hard copy than a cloud copy as at any time, anywhere at anyone's leisure... your whole collection that you paid good money for could just go poof! And not a damned thing you can do about it.

From the way streaming serviced have been abruptly cancelling popular shows just for a quick tax writeoff, I think having media in hard form will never die out.
I don't have internet (other than data on my smart phone) it costs too much. All we have is over the air and dvds. A friend of mine still has a functioning VHS 🤯

We own hundreds of DVDs and CDs. Although we have Roku, and used to watch everything for Free, more and more shows and Movies charge. So, we bought DVDs very cheaply, most given to us. Every genre. So, we'll never run out of things to watch.

The more we move away from physical ownership of what buy the less guilty people should feel about downloading permanent copies from share sites. It's not just movie's and TV shows either it is a big thing now for games or any app you can put on your computer. Despite paying full price for it the company who sold it to you can at any moment take it away and still have your money 💰.

Streaming will never replace physical copies. I have DVD's I can watch anytime I want, most aren't found on any streaming services, quite a few you'll have trouble finding for purchase. Digital copies? That'd be nice but it would take a rather larger server to store 2000+ movies.
I still love my dvds, and since their popularity has declined, there is a much bigger range of them at op shops, where I pay $5 at most for them. I hope they don't phase out completely. I like owning something I can come back to many times, even when the wifi is down, and I only pay a once off fee for.
I love my DVD collection. I don't even really watch them anymore and always dive into the bargain bins to find my favorite movies just so I can have them. I could open my own DVD store. I love them.
It will never completely disappear like 8-tracks or cassettes. I for one re-watch favorites multiple times, and own them. Then I don't have to worry about the streaming service losing the rights to show it, or it only being on a streaming service to which I don't belong . Granted there are not an overwhelming number of DVD's but I do - still - purchase them. Good animation movies is a weakness...
I have DVD box sets. I'm in limbo. I don't own a DVD player, but I love my Buffy, Angel, Chuck and Warehouse 13 box sets and don't want to get rid of them. I can of course buy a DVD player. But it would serve a purpose only of allowing me to watch the few DVDs I do have.
When DVDs started to come out, my older brother bought the VHS/DVD combo player, for the family for Christmas and I remember all the adults bitched and moaned about him wasting all that money on something so worthless because DVDs were NEVER going to catch on! And that seemed to be the consensus for everyone around the nation.
I stopped buying DVDs about 10 years ago once streaming became a thing.
Streaming audio is inferior. CDs will never disappear for those who notice and/or care about sound quality. TRUE STORY #1: my son was visiting and streaming a Beatles song in part of the house. I said it sounded off. After he insisted nothing was wrong, I have the album on CD and played if for him. When he heard the difference himself, he replied, "Thanks for ruining Spotify for me." TRUE STORY #2: both kids were visiting and cooking with my wife. She was streaming Neil Young (before he quit Spotify) on good wireless speakers. When I walked in I said it sounded tinny (thin, metalic sound). They all said I was crazy, but we've got that CD in a cabinet above an old radio/CD player in the kitchen. So I put it on. Everyone could hear that the streamed song was sped up causing the tempo a little too fast, raising raised the pitch, raising the treble, and hollowing out the midranges. The CD was obviously better. My daughter said, "So, you're going to ruin Spotify for me too?

Honestly? Cheap and neat finds at antique/thrift stores. Most places upcharge outrageous amounts for the items they get in, especially if it's a legitimate antique or unique item. On top of that, a lot of what's being sold now are nicknacks and decorative items that were made cheap at the time, and no one wants anymore.
I think we're also phasing out of the cheap product phase for everything, or at least slowing down. More and more people are choosing to repurpose their items or try and fix them, rather than just tossing and buying something new. Repurposing is even easier than ever thanks to the internet, it's no longer a struggle to figure out how to fix s**t and to buy missing parts and tools that you'd need to get the job done.
My local op shop has two buildings, one is the usual cheap things and cheap clothes and the other is the higher end stuff like vintage clothes or collectibles. It works well.

DVDs (I'm going to include Blu-ray here as well) have been mentioned. Physical media for games and production S/w that one owns is disappearing as well. Depending on an unreliable Internet connection to prove ownership much less access to the software (and the user generated files) is a rip off. Mind you one could foresee this with Tax software in the '90s that made your income tax forms locked to the software.
Now I'm really depressed. Too much pessimism for me as an old person nearing 80. 😢
