One can be related to the way we were brough up. A lot of us grew up being praised for our successes only, leading us to believe that if we don’t succeed, there is nothing to be celebrated or appreciated there.
We also tend to identify solely with our successes. We consider our jobs and our achievements the building blocks of who we are. We are doctors, engineers, physicists, librarians, competition winners, bonus collectors, and promotion earners.

We see and hear about their healthy or fancy lifestyles and we think we are not doing nearly enough, we’re lazy, and we’re failing at life. Our new neighbour asked if we were a bilingual household because he heard our 11 and 14 year old talking English all the time. (Summer + open windows) Yeah, no we're not. They got that good by playing video games with their international friends and _watching_YouTube_channels_.... So "wasting their time". Now the older one gets better at his third language by doing the same (watching YouTube).

My then 6yoa nephew asked me: "Why do you read all this car stuff?" I asked: "Do you like the GTO?" He did, and his lil buddies did. I took them to Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota, with my car club friends, laid down a 12.07@118mph on street tires through the mufflers rowing a Tremec 6spd. Ten years later, I have a dedicated pit crew, fan club, and none of these young men and women have ever had any legal or social problems. They like import stuff. They have piercings and ink. My FIL got VERY upset when I compared my and my husband's love of watching video game Let's Plays to someone watching sports. He swears it's not the same thing at all.
To be fair, a lot of video games would be difficult for a 5 year old. They haven't developed the hand eye coordination and reflexes for them yet, and that's assuming they have a controller small enough for their little hands.
I sat and watched this with my grandson a few weeks ago. Totally annoying with all the players screaming and yelling. Now I understand why people are getting dumber with every generation. LOL!
Went to pick up my son from Pre-K one day and he could not be found. It was because a bunch of the other kids were circled around him watching him play a handheld Nintendo game. I told him to give it back to the owner and we had to go. Half the group, including the owner of said Nintendo, turned to me in horror asking me to wait until he was done because they were "learning". My son didn't even *have* one of his own at that time, but was still so handy at it, he could act as a walkthrough for others. Live YT in RL.

I agree 100% with the adult. My stepson watches it endlessly u til I unplug the router and then I watch him meltdown in screaming fits of rage from room to room for the next 2 hours. At least he's exercising now.
Another good way of dealing with failure is gratitude. Recognizing what you already have can help you gain perspective on things. Sure, you might have not succeeded when delivering a task at work, but it’s also showed you what a supportive team you have and how your boss will always have your back. You might have failed to make a delicious-looking recipe, but it’s nice to know that you have the time and the resources to experiment in the kitchen.
