A remarkable artificial intelligence model has given what it believes is the definitive standard of beauty for men and women in various countries around the world. Research from health and beauty firm NordChem used an AI tool called MidJourney to render beautiful faces, giving an insight into how data pulled from across the web comes together to create beauty standards.
In a statement, Samantha Haines, Marketing Manager at NordChem Health & Beauty, said: “The goal of this project was to better understand the standards of beauty and how such views vary around the world. While to us, beauty means so much more than how someone looks, the style of their hair, or even the size of their muscles, this AI is an incredible tool that gives us an insight into commonly held perceptions of beauty and perfection in a variety of countries around the world. We hope people are interested to see the images.”
What is the Ideal Face, According to AI?
The AI took user-generated image ALT as well as hashtags from a number of sources such as Instagram, Facebook, and other social media outlets to draw images that match the description it has been given. Asked to draw the most beautiful people from different countries, the program offered images for men and women from 14 different countries around the world.
On the list were the UK, Spain, the USA, Australia, China, Colombia, Egypt, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, South Africa and Syria. It also offered a composite for the whole world, where it pulled together data to create what potentially would look like the most beautiful face in the world.
Symmetrical facial features, including balanced lips and eyebrows, along with healthy skin tones and flowing hair, collectively convey a sense of harmonious beauty. Even if beauty is a subjective matter, look at how the image engine has generated what’s deemed the most beautiful face and get an analytical idea of beauty across the globe.

Oh my f*****g god... the guy looks exactly like me. wtf??? IM FREAKING OUT
cool didnt ask though unnamed-6-...9b0ebb.jpg
South Africa
Anyone else notice they are all the same bone structure with different features matching their native ethnicity? Men = rectangular, chiseled & long. Women = oval, soft & always more pale with mouth open.
Yes and I've heard that women actually find the soft, cute looking guys with stereotypically feminine faces most attractive. But I'm not sure of the validity of that study lol. I think it depends on the man or woman in what they find attractive.
Load More Replies...So, after looking at all the images and reading comments by people sharing the ethnicities, the title needs to be changed. It should read, "We Used AI to Show What We Believe to be the Standard of Beauty in 15 Countries." Because humans define the term beauty and give the AI the data used to create these images. There is clear information bias based on this data.
I see the Wesley snipes/Will Smith male combo more than the female combo
Load More Replies...Spain
Same with the men. It's probably partially because humans all respond to the same things, and partially because we live in a global culture so everyone is seeing the same pictures of hot people
Load More Replies...Spaniard here, why are both so tan? Most of us are paler than that
Really, at tennis matches I see plenty like this and it is only mildly tan? Nadal, Carrena Busta. Arranxa Sanchez (old days). On and on plus the Spanish fans. Watch the Madrid Open - look at your own people. Tan and gorgeous not Nordic looking and wrinkly.
Load More Replies...I can't all of these people are so pretty(I really like the girls tho)
Philippines
Wow, she does. IDK what that makes me feel. It's something weird brewing in AI world.
Load More Replies...Freckles are very in on social media right now. People are literally making fake freckles part of their make up look. Kind of like how drawing a beauty mark has been a thing off and on. That would be my guess as to why AI is including it.

Grandpa didn't have that much chin and his hair was almost straight, otherwise fairly close to how he looked in the wedding pics.
So Rhianna is Egyptian.... Not Black???? These people crazy!!!

My husband is Egyptian. I've been to Egypt many times. The females features are neither Egyptian or the ideal beauty standard for Egyptians. Unfortunately, as a formerly European colonized country their beauty standards lean towards European features. Also, while there is a huge variation in appearances, they do not look west African (Where most African Americans originate from). They look closer to Greeks and Italians but darker with more curly and textured hair usually. The problem is people's incorrect perception that Africa = black. North Africans look different than what people think of when they hear African. Also before someone suggests this = they have done genetic testing in modern Egyptians and they are 98% the same as they were before being colonized. So their features are not because of outside influence

Um, I dunno if anybody ever notice, but East Asian beauty standards for men is smooth, clean-shaven look with barely any stubble? Or maybe I'm too old-fashioned
When I looked at the dude I immediately know he'd be my problematic fave in a movie and show. He has "crazy villian who's also overtly sexy" vibes
Ian Boggs on the right, my sister on the left (I swear to god she looks like a movie star)
Italy
She looks like a renaissance painting. He looks like a Calvin Klein model.
She actually looks like 2 famous Italian's actresses, and a couple of my females friends (I'm Italian by the way)
Yeah not seeing it. All except the Asian ones look like 'roided up beasts I wouldn't give a second glance to. AND WHY DO SO ALL THE WOMEN HAVE FRECKLES
So pretty much the whole world is a consensus on that strong beautiful male jaw
Colombia
I think that the girl is super pretty, I love the bags under her eyes because it makes her seem real.
Lol those are not bags, that's what a particular kind of eyesocket produces
Load More Replies...She is beautiful. He looks a bit like Tarzan. But who am I kidding, I would love to look like that guy.
He looks like he should be on the cover of a romance novel.
That's not a Hispanic woman, that's a black woman. Even if she has some Hispanic because a black and Hispanic mix, she's still considered black. Just like Obama was the first black president, despite being mixed. This is wrong. Hispanics are related to Native Indians and Europeans aka Spaniards! Stop with this fake history stuff..
The jaw on the man's face is named 'Kevin Chaddington' for anyone curious.
Japan
No wonder my grandmother pitied me, being half Japanese, and me with big eyes, big mouth and darker skin--the total opposite of the ideal Japanese.
Awww. Presuming that's you in the thumbnail, you were a CUTE kid!!!

Australia
Ai art is based on a permutation of the sum total of whatever the engine finds online. I guess the majority of photos of Australian people on the internet aren't of Aboriginal people. Not the Ai's fault, it's ours. Edit.
Load More Replies...The woman looks like she would be the wise-cracking Australian protagonist of a action- comedy movie
All the people commenting that these should look like the aboriginals... please read the title of the article! It's AI's interpretation of what it "thinks" Australians consider to be the most beautiful. I.e. it likely took pictures of men and women used in advertising or beauty related media that was commonly found in Australia to generate these. In other words, Australians find western looking men and women more attractive.
Is it just me or does she kind of look like Daisy Ridley (I know she's British but it really does look like her)
If you watch Australian television, this is what every Australian looks like. One of the things I like about NZ TV is people look more like people.
United Kingdom
More Margot Robbie. also the Australian one

You are correct, Dean Winchester *is* the most attractive man in the world.
Load More Replies...Why do all these men look so hard? No pun intended. They all look like they want to say "Don't mess with me!"
Exactly. I think most women prefer the cuter, softer looking males. Beauty standards for men are a huge myth and misconception it seems

After consideration, I think a true "World" look would be a bit richer in skin tone and a bit more lush in facial features.
India
I am an Indian. I don't look like that. Indians come in so many colors. I hate how peopke generalise. I am a pale Indian with curly hair. A guy I know has blue eyes. Its like we are not Indians. Most people I know don't look like that
It's not supposed to look like you. It's an AI trying to guess how a handsome indian lad looks like. Chill, brother.
Load More Replies...I'm surprised by this one. There is a real pale aesthetic in India, I thought these guys would be lighter skinned. It's good to see that opinions are changing. They are both hauntingly beautiful. But Indians are very attractive people, so it's no surprise.
The guy looks like a more tired and polished version of my kannada teacher
Colour chhod BC. I think the ai did a great job about his people out of India think the beauty would be. Brown skin use beautiful. Aur hum gori chamdi ko beauty samajhte hai, thanks to Bollywood.
No justice on this one. The females I've seen from India have always been very pretty! This one, not so much. (People from India have the most beautiful babies too)!
Mexico
If I had to guess his nationality, Mexico would not immediately come to mind
I'm not saying there aren't Mexicans that look like them, but they both have a very Americanized look - moreso the woman because I've seen a few Mexican men that look just like him. Definitely not typical or a good representation.
Amaericanized lol you do realize that Mexico is part of Nortn America and that the indigenous mesoamericans are their ancestors 🤣
Load More Replies...Uh yeah, he looks like my cousin and many Mexican women I know have similar features as she does. The world has such a prejudice way of seeing Mexicans.
Load More Replies...So...these AI art generators go based off of the prompts they're given. I use Wombo Dream* A LOT for inspiration when I'm painting, graphic design for site editing, clip art, coloring pages, etc. (*it's an absolutely amazing app, BTW - just as HQ as Midjourney & getting better all the time) so I'm quite familiar with how they work & function. I'm guessing the prompt here was something like "high(est) quality portrait of the most attractive man/woman in [Country Name]" and since portraits aren't usually of the entire body...If you want to see the whole body in an image, you'd have to put something like "entire body in frame" or "full body image", etc., in the prompt. Wombo Dream, starryAI, & MonAI are all free in the Play Store if you wanna try for yourself! Midjourney requires going through Discord to use it and limits you to just a few images. starryAI limits you, too, but has beautiful outputs. MonAI just makes you watch an ad for your image & has unique styles. Wombo is 👑 to me!
Load More Replies...I know a lot of Mexicans with similar features. Including in my family.
And I mean this in a jokey, light hearted way. Not one of these "YOU'RE NOT REPRESENTING ME, PERSONALLY!!11" comments.
Load More Replies...I think it's accurate. I'm a northern Mexican... we tend to be lighter.
United States
I love how the AI knows that Americans have to have their flag in the background
neither of them are super attractive in my opinion, but I love the girl's hair.
I’m going to take a moment to look and your name and cry joyful tears
Load More Replies...Anyone else notice that all 15 men were Square jawed, dimple chin and ripped? Though I was happy to see blonde wasn't number one for many countries for women. (I say that as a natural blonde)
Her freckles are in the wrong place, IMO. Also, they look more like a rash.
That big American flag would be a major turn-off for a lot of Americans. It's a warning sign that this person is probably a bigot.
I'm surprised the guy doesn't have the blond hair blue eyes All American standard
That's german, not American. Where in america do you even get blonde hair blue eyes? lol wtf?
Load More Replies...The woman I could believe it in the 90's or even early 2000's but not now. Especially if the AI got beauty standards from instagram. The man idk, maybe with a beard?

The quest to understand what constitutes the face of the most beautiful woman or man through AI has been a fascinating journey. AI has helped improve our understanding of global beauty standards by analyzing facial patterns across various countries. In conclusion, let’s cover the most popular questions about AI.
How Does AI Generate Fake Faces?
AI generates fake faces using a machine learning model called a generative adversarial network (GAN). A GAN consists of two neural networks that compete against each other: a generator and a discriminator.
The generator tries to create realistic-looking faces from random noise. In contrast, the discriminator tries to distinguish between real and fake faces. The generator learns from the feedback of the discriminator and improves its output over time. The result is a collection of counterfeit looks that are very hard to tell apart from real ones.
Still, AI-generated faces can also be misused for scams, fraud, and misinformation. Therefore, it is essential to know the potential risks and ethical issues of using them.
How to Make Realistic Faces With AI?
There are different ways to make realistic faces with AI, depending on the input and output you want. Some common methods are:
- Text: This method lets you create realistic human faces from text prompts. You can describe the gender, age, hair color, body type, facial features, and other details, and the AI will generate a matching visualization for you.
- Photo: This method lets you create realistic human faces from a reference photo. You can upload a photo of a person, and the AI will generate a similar face with different variations and styles.
- Enhancer: This method lets you improve the quality and resolution of a low-quality or pixelated face photo. You can upload a blurry or distorted face photo and the AI will enhance it and make it more clear and realistic.
What is the AI That Makes Realistic Faces?
AI tools can create good quality, realistic AI-generated faces from various inputs, such as text descriptions, pixelated images, or reference photos. It can turn any pictures into convincing AI-generated, most beautiful faces in finer detail than ever.
- Fotor AI face generator: This online tool lets you effortlessly create lifelike human faces. Simply enter text prompts or upload a photo, and watch Fotor generate detailed and realistic AI faces for you.
- DALL·E 2 AI image generator: This AI system developed by OpenAI can create realistic images and art from a description in natural language. It can combine concepts, attributes, and styles.
Is There a Free AI Face Generator?
Some free online tools can generate realistic or stylized human faces using AI. For example, you can try:
- AI face generator: This free online tool lets you create lifelike or youthful-looking faces from text prompts or reference photos. You can customize the faces with different hairstyles, skin tones, accessories, and more.
- DALL·E 2 AI image generator: This free online tool uses descriptions in natural language to create images and art. It combines different concepts, attributes, and styles to generate unique faces.
- Zmo AI face generator: This free online tool lets you generate faces that resemble a person you upload. You can also choose from different variations.
Can we just desist with this AI "art" nonsense? None of the images are ever even remotely interesting. Instead, regardless of the subject, they are derivative, repetitious, and pretty much the opposite of real art.
and most of the time ai steals art 🤷♀️👽
Load More Replies...This is *not* art. Please please PLEASE stop putting AI "art" under digital art.
The base for all these faces is the same. Super square for the men and absolute baby faces for the women. If we actually want to see the different beauty standards for different countries, photographs of real people would be better.
Basically ai is saying Steve of Minecraft is the ideal man of the universe lmao
Load More Replies...The AI did do a kind of nice job but I’d appreciate it if any posts involving work done by AI was not placed under digital art tag. Artists actually do some hard work which may eventually get plagiarised by an AI. People who claim to do “art” with AI most likely get things done in under a minute or 2 by typing in some prompts. I’m sorry if I sound very angry in this comment, I don’t mean to sound rude at all.
I wasn't so much interested in the quality of the work by the AI, but by how the AI interpreted what data from each country determined as beautiful. So what is the general aesthetic of beauty in a place like South Africa vs Japan. I'm actually surprised that all of the women were so skinny. This may be a Western European aesthetic that is being applied. I know in my country, that western ideal of super skinny is not considered beautiful. We like women who like to eat. Colombia has a similar aesthetic to us, so to see her so skinny was interesting. Perhaps this is the influence of western culture on our cultures, or it's just a bad AI.
Load More Replies...Can we all agree that this needs to be downvoted into obliteration?
No we can't. Stop trying to decide what others get to enjoy.
Load More Replies...Blue eyed blondes ...FOR AUSTRALIA?! Who programmed this AI, a racist colonizer?
True... As an Australian, I've never seen people like this.... Every day I see every ethnicity under the sun...we certainly are not a white nation...
Load More Replies...The source of all this "beauty" is social media (according to the top text and other articles on other sites that are posting about this), so of course it all looks generic and samey, as the ideal from social media is a certain aesthetic. It was also commissioned by a cosmetics firm, so I guess we should look forward to seeing our children and our grandchildren having to aspire to this standard of beauty when these type of images start getting used in makeup and beauty commercials and adverts. Won't that be fun?
That's been the reality already. Despite how annoying any marketing is, there are some gross exploiting "real primer campaigns that are diverse and inclusive of the range of our human experience. If only we began spending more effort on the beauty within.
Load More Replies...I don't think that this technique that they describe would result in showing you the beauty standards of each country. It might just show you what a cute Colombian or Syrian looks like to US American tastes or western tastes or composite world tastes, not Colombian or Syrian tastes.
