There are solid reasons why a subreddit like Tech Support Gore exists. You see, as little documented as it may be, people living in the golden age of technology are no strangers to occasional, or rather pretty frequent mishaps.

And when we talk about mishaps, we're talking about real stuff, like fry-ups, grease and nests. It sounds like something from Gordon Ramsay’s show Hell’s Kitchen, but it’s not. Burning plastic, cable nests and hand grease are all the tip of the iceberg of things technicians see and have to find ways to fix on a daily basis.

So today, we are about to dive into the collection of the worst cases these blessed workers have seen while on duty. From straight-up embarrassing to plain weird, thumbs up are simply not enough to give to tech support. Psst! More of the crazy tech fails people brought in can be found in our previous posts here and here.

The Bad Part About Giving Tech Support To Your Local Food Place Is Seeing This And Knowing You Shouldn't Eat There Any More

M4rK101 Report

Previously, we spoke with an IT support specialist who shared a couple of insights into the crazy things technicians see on a daily basis at work. Speaking of all the crazy pictures shared on the r/TechSupportGore subreddit, Smarthawk said that “they are accurate depictions of some of the things you run into in hardware support.” He added that “some things are obviously more shocking than others,” but this is pretty much an accurate representation of reality.

Thinkpad Overheating For Some Reason

Thinkpad Overheating For Some Reason

lhauckphx Report

When asked why so many people seem to still have little idea of how technology works, Smarthawk commented: “I think that the general population is definitely getting more comfortable using technology but, no matter how confident you are, there's always moments where someone has a brainfart and breaks something.” So even for the best tech connoisseurs, faux pas happen, and they may find their baked gadgets end up on the r/TechSupportGore community.

Today r/TechSupportGore is home to 521k members, but it seems like the community never stopped growing since its creation in 2012. They aren't interested in trivial things like cracked screens or anything—just the filthiest kind of tech fails. And it doesn't seem that they're running out of things to post anytime soon.

Change power settings so it doesn't shut down or go on standby when the lid is closed. Problem solved.

Boom indeed. Bring outside and cover with a bucket or something - so it can cool (but keeps dry) - the battery can cool also and then a repair human can maybe save the contents.

This is exactly why I refuse to buy laptops with internal batteries. I prefer the ones that slot in and you can easily remove with a latch.

The Lipo batteries go bad occasionally. They can catch fire, and they burn hotter than magnesium. The battery needs to be taken out and put in a bucket of salt water to deactivate it, and then buy a new battery and put it in.

get the loading cable out and bring it outside. Turn it off and hope the battery does hold. This will need urgent repair.

My airpods do this sometimes they're off brand but you can just pop them back in place and use the case as a clamp for a couple seconds and they work just like new and I'm pretty sure you can't do that with apple airpods

My school Chromebook started doing this over the pandemic and at the time I didn't know what it was, so I just popped it. Luckily nothing happened and after a month the school finally fixed it. All the time I was doing online school on it.

Just remove and replace the battery. See this all the time on Dell laptops after about 2 1/2 years of use.

Broken or cracked cases can allow moisture and oxygen to enter the battery and oxidize the lithium components, causing a heat reaction. This can lead to fires or explosions. Overheating, overcharging and shock from dropping or crushing can also cause heat reactions to occur. Li-ion batteries that overheat, have an odor, are discolored, deformed, bulging or swollen should be immediately removed from service and isolated.

Never set the computer on a flat surface. That cute circle grill on the bottom is the cooling fan. Also, you have too many icons on your desktop, that slows your computer down. Use folders instead.

Or maybe it's a design flaw for this company to put the fan on the bottom knowing it's going to be covered... Many laptops don't put the fan there so people can actually use it on their lap, hence the name... Also icons on your desktop has ZERO impact on how fast your computer is. It may take a second longer when you refresh the desktop itself but regular use of the computer is not impacted at all.
