It’s not surprising that there is growing evidence that negative news can affect our mental health, notably in the form of increased anxiety, depression and acute stress reactions. Often unknowingly, we devour hours upon hours of negativity, whether it’s endless scrolling on social media or batch coverage of current events which comes straight to your mobile every morning.

So no wonder good news is having a renaissance. Just look at the Instagram account “Tanks Good News,” a powerhouse of lighthearted, wholesome, humorous and overwhelmingly positive content. Created and run by George Resch, aka Tank Sinatra, who aims at highlighting the good instead of the bad, the page today has 2.7 million followers, a number which shows just how thirsty we are for positive content.

Below we collected some of the most wholesome, soothing, and humorous posts from the page to fill your heart with joy, so enjoy! Also, make sure to share this post with anyone who’s been feeling down lately, it works like magic.

Resch told Elite Daily that he struggled with sobriety more than a decade ago, before getting completely sober at the age of twenty-two. Now being thirty-eight, Resch recalls: "I would be frustrated that I wasn't positive, but I wasn't looking for anything to be positive [about], so it was a vicious downward cycle where I was unhappy and I looked for things to justify my unhappiness. When I got sober, I thought doing that would kill me. So, I felt like I needed to be positive to survive."

In 2017, Resch created Tank's Good News, the hugely successful project that stems from his frustration with the negativity of current news. “CNN, Fox... they've made a business out of creating a visceral reaction out of people but that reaction is fear, anxiety and negativity," he explained. He didn’t know there was a market for good news, yet said he knew “if I could make people feel good, they would come back."

This Is A Great Idea. Also, If You See Me You Can Say “Dad” And The Same Thing And I’ll Handle The Problem

tanksgoodnews Report

The huge popularity of Tank's Good News reflects not only its creator's but our shared fatigue with what’s happening on the screens and media. The worst scenarios are bombarding us every day and it’s only fair we get fed up with it. To find out more about it, what this negative exposure does to our mental wellbeing and how can we be more resilient to it, we spoke with Dr. Lise Deguire, a clinical psychologist and author of award-winning memoir “Flashback Girl: Lessons on Resilience From a Burn Survivor.”

Dr. Lise said that indeed many people report that their mood is negatively affected by the news. “Of course, the news itself tends to focus on negative occurrences. For example, the news will report on the terrible car accident that happened. They will not, of course, report on the thousands of people that safely drove that day. (Safe, happy occurrences are not usually considered news.) But, because the news focuses so much on negative events, it can make us feel that only bad things are happening in the world,” she explained.

The clinical psychologist added that the news often focuses on events that make us fearful, “because when we are afraid, we tend to think we need to keep watching the news.”

When asked what are psychological benefits to reducing the time you spend on social media and watching TV, Dr. Lise said that when her clients report anxiety, sadness or anger about the news, she often encourages them to limit their news/social media exposure. “Most of us can stay informed through a quick read of the headlines. Having the news on in the background, or checking Twitter all day, often distresses people because the news almost always focuses on scary negative events and ignores positive ones,” she explained.

tanksgoodnews Report

The good news is that we can all learn to become more positive and resilient to negativity. “One way is to learn who or what makes us feel good, and who or what makes us feel bad. For example, my mood usually improves when I listen to music or go outside. My mood usually goes downhill when I stop exercising. All of us have activities that lift us up or bring us down.”

Dr. Lise also said that the more aware we can be, the better choices we can make. “Does it help you to dance? Write? Call a friend? Take a bath? See if you can figure out what is in your positivity 'toolbox,'" she suggested.

He got it passed, but the Republicans watered it down to it doesn't cover uninsured people and only applies to people on state-regulated insurance plans. Or put simply, only 16 percent of Texans actually benefit from the cap. I can't imagine living in a country where whether everyone has the right to access life-saving drugs cost-free is even up for DEBATE! It just doesn't sound credible to someone who lives in the developed world.

The two doctors who 'invented' insulin sold the patent for $1 so it could be affordable to all. The US didn't get that memo.

While this is true it is about the pig insuline we used to have. But it had lots of very serious side issues. Modern insuline is made by genetically modified bacteria. Which isn't an excuse why it isn't affordable.

I live in Sweden with Medicare for all. We also have a maximum cost for prescription meds of $268 in a 12 month period. After that my prescriptions are free to the end of the 12 month period when it restarts. I take a lot of prescription medication to keep me alive so it took 3 months to hit the maximum which means 9 months of completely free meds. Should work that way in the usa

Germany has medical insurance for all as well. Each prescription you receive costs €5, no matter what it is. If you're on a limited income and have a lot of prescriptions, the insurance company will even make sure you don't have to pay the charge. I used to work in a clinic where they specialized in medical tourism, people came from all over the world for surgery. Sometimes family members, who weren't insured needed meds or treatment. Insulin costs like €15 a pen here, the vails are even cheaper. People from the US were always shocked how cheap medical care is.

It was "free" for white wealthy men, if you consider someone free if they rise up by stomping other people down. The USA is having an overdue reckoning, and a lot of us are no longer buying the same old b.s. storyline, now that we have seen how our friends and neighbors are treated.

I have an even better idea: let's all pay a fraction of a cent in taxes and make insulin free for all diabetics. Maybe we can agree to pay a whole few $$ more a year and make all life saving medications free for everybody that needs them? I would cut to the chase and make all medications free (at the point of sale), but I am sure there would be complaints from the "I don't want to pay for other people meds because if it doesn't affect me it's not my problem" crowd.

Because the people in our government are wealthy, comfortable, and have access to anything they need or want, whenever they want it. In addition, they are given large amounts of money in "campaign contributions" by very wealthy corporate owners who pay them off to keep things at status quo. They don't care about the nation they are supposed to be serving.

It would be great if we had a society that, in these circumstances, people decided that people were more important than obscene profit. And I'm a Capitalist unashamedly. Except for this. Insulin and many other drugs are simple and inexpensive to manufacture. There would be more than enough revenue to pay expenses and a decent profit at. I imagine, less than 5% of that $1000 a month. Sick that people never think through their actions or effect on others. Make a profit, pay for the expenses but be reasonable. Maybe even human. Don' f**k with someones life.

Before the introduction of synthetic injectable insulin, we had bovine and porcine produced insulin. The cost was almost negligible. Now with only synthetic insulin available, the profiteers have cornered the market and people are paying the ultimate price for their greed. These pharmaceutical companies need to be charged with genocide.

I agree, but NASA's budget is minuscule compared to the US military and a lot of their work benefits society at large. I am not sure why you bundled the two. One is a civilian organization, the other isn't. Even for the military, there is a certain logic, it's just that the US outspends the next 5 most powerful nations in military spending.

Wow! I remember reading an awful story 6 years ago about a 17 year old girl who had type 1 and needed to be on an insulin pump and their insurance wasn't covering enough of it and the family couldn't afford it. One day her blood sugar dropped while in the bathroom and she could barely move and was able to dial her gmas number but couldn't speak, thankfully her gma wasn't too far away and was able to get to her with some sugar cubes. That story bothered me so much, it's not right for anyone to go without essential medication. I worked in medical billing for a short time and it is disgusting the cost and especially insurance companies doing everything they could not to pay. I was definitely a thorn in their sides and the doctor's because I would send stuff back for code reviews so that I wouldn't have to send a bill to a patient. It was a depressing because I couldn't help everyone, so I went on to work on the clinical side.

Type 1 Diabetes means you were born with it, no way to survive until adulthood without being diagnosed early in life AND treated for it. You must mean you were diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes as an adult. No wonder we pay sooooooo much for medications when our elected officials can't even get a grasp on the basics themselves.

When did this happen?? I'm so thankful. My late husband had type 1 diabetes and once he needed a vial early but they said it was 500 bucks.. no way to afford it. He said in an exasperated tone "what am I supposed to do? Die?" It wasn't the pharmacist fault but it was just heart wrenching to see my husband in this predicament. I barely ever seen him slip and show negative emotions but this was one of the times. I'm so happy to see this cruel part of the world lessen.

That's espacially sad cause most big stores would accept to prep your groceries in advance and put them in your trunk. Especially if you need help like by being elderly in a pandemic. I feel them though, it is hard to think through during such panick. I just hope they found a more reliable way to safely buy their groceries.

You’ve Brought Forth Life, Miraculously. That’s Major. I Don’t Look Like I Did When I Was 20 And I Have No Good Excuse And I Love Eating And Hate Moving So I’ll Have To Deal With That Some Other Way

I helped my mum look after my dad throughout his illness. I did all the heavy and hard stuff she couldn’t do that he would worry about - the garden, cleaning the car, shopping, diy, you name it I did it. There are lots of photos of that time - dad and mum, dad and my brother, dad and his grandchildren but I don’t have a single photo of me with my dad; I was always the one taking the pictures, capturing the memories for everyone else.i will have to try this, I miss him everyday.

This is so true. I am 43 and in class with all teenagers. They know I have 2 grandchildren so they call me grandma and are more than helpful. Their kindness means the world to me. They never allow me to feel like the odd one out.

Story Time

Story Time

One time I saw two young, black, females checking out at the grocery store (I’ll explain why I used these three descriptors later on in the caption). They had all of their groceries rang up and in bags already, when it came time to pay, they ran the debit card. It got declined, once, then twice. One sister looked at the other worriedly. I keyed in immediately. They tried another card, denied, once then twice. Then they pulled out the EBT card. I assumed they didn’t want to pull this out because of how some people look at people who use EBT cards (shame on THEM, not you). There wasn’t enough on it to cover the bill. They looked at each other with tears in their eyes and shrugged, half “Oh well”, half “Oh my god, what are we gonna do?”. I stepped in immediately and said “Please let me help you”. I mentioned they were young black and female because I’m an older white male, and I know that sometimes help can be seen as an act of pity, which in my case it was not at all. I wasn’t insinuating they couldn’t take care of themselves, I was just a human being watching two other human beings struggle. They seemed shocked but allowed me to help. We parted ways, but as God would have it, we wound up parked right next to each other. They were still sitting there because they were crying. Their mother had just died. They didn’t know how they were going to eat that night, or any of the following nights. I forgot the girls name, but we briefly connected on here. If you see this, please send me a dm to let me know how you and your sister are doing. Sorry for the long caption but this video hit me hard.

And people should know that mental health HAS consequences on your body. Like depression that litteraly makes you move slower. If we treated mental issues like open wounds it would be cristal clear.

I Don’t Believe In This Left vs. Right, Or Liberal vs. Conservative Narrative. There Is No Line In The Middle. The Lines Are At The Extreme Ends, With A Lot Of Gray Area In The Middle. The Problem Is, The Media (And Social Media), Wants You To Believe That Anybody Even Slightly Left Of Center Is A Screeching Liberal, And Anybody Slightly Right Of Center Is A Raging Nazi. I Know (Not Believe, Know) That This Is Not The Case. Let’s Get Rid Of The Line In The Middle, Find Some Common Ground, And Work From There
