Many owners see them as an alternative to feeding your furry companion while being away, or simply making sure you never forget to put some snacks out when you’re out of time.
But experts warn that automatic food dispensers are in no way an alternative to human interaction. In fact, Russell Hartstein, a certified pet behaviorist and the founder of Fun Paw Care in Los Angeles, told NY Times that “A feeder should never be used as a way to not hire a pet sitter, walker, or boarding facility.”

ALWAYS flatten empty cans before throwing them out! And close empty jars or put them somewhere your pet can’t get stuck... As for the cat owner with the empty jerky bag where the cat got stuck 4 times... just get up and toss it instead... The animals are not at fault, the owners are!!

Agreed. My cats have never tried to eat anything that isn't meant for them. Why? Because I don't leave anything out to tempt them. And I never feed them people food, so there is no confusion as to whose food is whose.

I have no experience with these automated feeders but it I see the funny incidents here I cannot help but imagine there also must be unfunny ones...

I know it's usually funny and I did laugh at my cat in similar situations but I feel bad about those who needed vet's assistance. Especially the cat stuck in a jar for a week... :'(
