Though the carnage of Hurricane Harvey is currently dominating mainstream media, Texas isn't the only part of the world being ravaged by flooding. International news coverage has largely ignored the torrential rainfall that has been devastating South Asia for almost the entire month of August, and it's time for us all to start talking about it.

Across India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, record amounts of heavy monsoon rains have caused disastrous flooding and landslides. Thousands of homes have become completely submerged, poor villages have absolutely no access to food and medicine, and nearly 1200 people have died - including children. Millions have been displaced, and are now wandering the region homeless and searching for help.

In case your local news station hasn't been reporting on it, here are 30+ photos from the scene that you won't soon forget. The GlobalGiving Foundation is working with a number of charities and aid organisations to provide relief to the many groups affected by these events, and you can learn more about it here.

It is not our place even to put our moral standards on their culture. Not every culture buries the dead. Think of it also as, now the child is one with the river and whenever and wherever their is water, they will be with him.

That's not "toxic green" water! This is a stagnated area covered with either a duckweed/tiny green plant or an algae bloom if some sort! The water isn't free to flow through the area and circulate the water. Just look near the legs of the people! You'll see that the water is a typical color for a pond or canal or water that's too deep to be contained within the banks! It's bad enough! There's no need to make it sound any worse!

I love how everybody thinks they know what they are talking about because they recognize algae...the water can very well be toxic. Animal waste and other chemical additives change the composition of water making it very toxic indeed and a perfect breeding ground for algae🙄

This is indeed a terrible tragedy, but there is no reason for you to imply that "we" ought to cast aside the devastation in Texas and devote "our" attention to flooding in India. U.S. news outlets naturally cover domestic disasters first and rightfully so. India has its own news outlets, its own resources and about a billion citizens to render assistance. It strikes me as bizarre that you take exception to U.S. news outlets paying so much attention to U.S. problems. Why wouldn't they? Perhaps—unlike you—they have enough sense to know that news coverage of natural disasters are not prioritized by magnitude but by proximity. I think you should go to Texas and tell the victims there that you think their plight is not as important as that of the victims in India. I'm certain they'll tell you where to shove your virtue signaling, Globalist opinion.

This article happens to be arguing that not enough people know about this. All these pictures show the extent of this submerged country and you think the photographer is at liberty to save him? Even at that, are we just at beginning of the invention of film? How long does it take to take a picture now? This could have been even a quick shot as maybe the rescue boat he is on approaches. Do photographers have to take a picture now with their hand reaching out in every shot so that negative people don't judge them.

Misery is universal. That being the case, those who report news stories tend to stick to those which are relevant to their readers. As unfortunate as it is, not every worthy story, good or bad, gets attention. It's just human nature to want to know first what is most likely to affect you and your family and friends. I have family and friends in Texas, but not in Southeast Asia. If you're the worldwide rescuer type, then good for you ... I'm not.

At first glance I thought this was just silly, carrying an umbrella when you're up to your waist in water. Then I saw the glasses. I wear glasses, and you need to keep the lenses dry so you can see where you're going.

So much of it seems to be broken, the flood must've hit it hard then begun to recede.

The Rohingya are the Muslim minority that lives in the country of Myanmar (formerly known as Burma), which is a Buddhist majority country. Many of the Rohingya seek to leave Myanmar, claiming that they are being oppressed religiously and politically.

It's sad that the 'safety' they're fleeing to is a country that's flooded.

Who writes these idiotic comments ? A) How does it matter if he is Myslim ir Hindu or Christian ? B) It is not India controlled Kashmir. Kashmir is legally a part of India. Check your facts before you blurt out gibberish. It should have gone like "Man carrying food home in flooded Srinagar, Capital of Jammu & Kashmir, India."
