Some Grocers Are Using Banana Leaves As An Alternative Way To Package Without Plastic
a lot of south asian countries have them lying around. i wouldn't expect the west to have too much though
Load More Replies...As usual someone will go completely overboard wth this and perhaps create huge banana leaf plantations that kill the local flora and use up too much water.
True for bananas, but surely there are other fibrous, resistant leaves. Like figtrees leaves which are fairly common in Mediterranean countries.
Load More Replies...That's not new for us here in Nagaland, or in the north eastern states of India. We use it to pack edible items like fruits, vegetables, meat, etc. Also as temporary roofing materials & bed in the rice fields.
Cool if their local and you have them. If you're importing them then you're doing something wrong there.
Oh, for people who don't grow the trees which saves money. Not everyone can.

If you have gingerbread man cookie cutters, you also have reindeer cookie cutters
My friend taught me this. And if you make the reindeer and turn it over it's a cyclops with nipples.
I used to do something like that with my toast when I was a kid. I'd bite two opposite corners and have Australia. Then I'd bite another corner and imagine it a house with legs. Then I'd bite a leg off and have a Chinaman (wearing straw hat). I cant remember where I went from there (struggling to remember that much).

My mom just taught me. make your hard taco like normal. Then sprinkle some cheese on a soft taco. wrap soft taco around hard taco. Cheese melts, mess contained, utterly delicious.

New To The Sub, So Sorry If This Has Been Done Before. But The Bottom Of J.lohr(As Well As Any Similar Shaped Wine Bottle) Makes A Great Press For Homemade Ravioli
I agree that it’s not ravioli, but it looks pretty tasty. Ravioli is traditionally square, and these could be more compared to pansotti which sometimes are circular shaped and pinked. Still look yum though! Source: Born in Rome, my entire family makes pasta. :)

'Curry blend'???? What kind of curry, North Indian, South Indian, Korean, Chinese, Thai??? The word 'curry' is a suffix, it is supposed to be added after the region it is inspired from!
'That'll Do Curry'. Yeah, this kind of recipe(ish) makes me sad and frustrated. A cuisine of a region builds up over hundreds of years, refined and evolved by tons of trial and error by thousands or millions of people to get the perfect balance and then along comes something like this, like a plastic flower.
Load More Replies...The Indian spice combination is a weird. No one i know uses anything with this combo!!
The Cajun one is completely wrong. Cajun and Creole cooking doesn't typically use cumin or ground coriander seed. Here's the one I use. 4 parts garlic powder 3 parts paprika 2 parts onion powder 2 parts oregano 1 part black pepper 1 part white pepper 1 part cayenne pepper 1 part thyme
I can't follow this. Are the vertical lines dividers? Why are the spice blend titles in different places on each line? This is crappy graphic design!
They are continuations from the previous line where it says "continuation". It's probably more apparent in person when the colors are more visible, but you can see how the continued line matches the color of the section it was continued from.
Load More Replies...Seem to recall garam Masala being 7 spices.. cloves, fenugreek, cumin, cardamon, coriander garlic and chili. Came back from central india with this 25 years ago - but I see from Google that there are many variations of the recipe..
Do not follow the Italian spice blend when it comes to making your own pasta sauce. Italian marinara/spaghetti sauce does not have oregano in it. It's bitter and overpowering. The only spice blend you need for marinara is basil and parsley. And always add it during the last 10 minutes.
Also. Don't just read left to right like I just did. Pay attention to the "continued" and where the vertical line is for full spice combination.

Wrap A Piece Of Lettuce Around One Side Of Your Sandwich/Burger To Keep The Goods From Falling Out The Other Side
My thought exactly. I like my bacon the way Tyrion Lannister does. "And bacon....burned black!"
Load More Replies...Lettuce is crunchy and yum! If it has a bitter taste you might want to wash it more thoroughly or look into different varieties that pique your interest more. The coffee one is absurd. Coffee is a lot like wine - once it's exposed to oxygen it starts decaying, getting worse by the day. Within a couple of weeks you're left with a terrible, bitter flavor from being so stale and broken down. It'll hold for few months if sealed - but needs to have a one-way valve so it can degas.
Coffee beans last a year. The oils and acids protects from decay.

When You Finish A Jar Of Mustard, Don’t Throw It Out - Make Delicious Salad Dressing With Only 3 Ingredients. Put Ingredients Into Jar, Shake Vigorously, Done
Use good olive oil, white wine vinegar (cider vinegar is yuck), s & p, a little garlic, and fresh chives.
the reason mustard is such an incredible ingredient in dressing: the mustard seed hull has mucilage, an emulsifier that helps hold the oil/vinegar/water together. people not putting mustard in their dressing because they don't like mustard are missing out - it doesn't take a lot - you're not really adding it for the flavor.
Spread some pepper jelly (red or green) over a block of cream cheese and dig in with your favorite cracker. Or make a quesadilla with cream cheese and crab, dip into pepper jelly.

I Really Wanted A Hot Dog But Didn't Have Any Buns So I Used A Baked Potato Instead
Very interesting. I used to order baked potatoes from a food place. The bacon baked potato was huge, topped with butter, sour cream, cheese, and a bucket of bacon. They also had pastrami baked potatoes, etc.
Right!? I'm not a fan. However, I craved corn dogs with my second pregnancy but only the ones with the honey flavored batter, dipped in mustard. I think it was just because I read somewhere that hotdogs were not good to eat during pregnancy so obviously corn dogs wouldn't be either so naturally I wanted them lol.
Load More Replies...Gross. I love hot dogs. I love potatoes. The idea of one inside the other is disgusting, those flavors would not work well together.
You can also use a tortilla. In fact, in Norway, we have a thing called "lompe" which is basically like a small tortilla made of potato flour; and it's probably more used than the buns.
You have permanently defeated my hotdog-is-a-sandwich argument. This looks delicious.
If I'm hungry for a hotdog, I don't want to take the time to bake a potato.

For Easy-To-Eat S'mores, Try Making Them In Ice Cream Cones
While this would work for adults, I think kids would be disappointed to not be able to toast their own marshmallows over the fire. (My SIL has extendable forks for this purpose. They're about a foot long, but extend to 30" for safer marshmallow toasting.)
Yo this is the way we do this at boy scouts. Same thing, but throw them IN the fire
Reminds me of the time we tried to make smores... with a waffle cone bowl, Peeps, and Hershey kisses. We put the Peeps and Hersheys in the waffle cone bowl, wrapped it in foil, and put it near the fire (like in the picture). Needless to say, it didn't work out.
Elevating The Bacon Keeps It Out Of The Grease And Allows Hot Air To Circulate Around The Strips, So They Cook And Crisp Evenly
I’ve always done this. It makes it easier to collect the bacon grease to season my 75-year-old cast-iron pans.
I like the grease, that's why I fry it. Not a lover of American bacon though, far too thin.
I've done it both ways, and prefer not using a rack since it always ends requiring too much scrubbing to get clean. Just lay the bacon directly on parchment paper, and turn it over half way thru. Drain on paper towel. Comes out perfect.
Empty Ketchup Bottles Make Excellent Batter Holders And Dispensers
Just so you all know, you cannot store pancake batter for more than a day. Please don't use this as a way to store batter for later use long term. You will find all kinds of bs via google claiming it's good for up to 4 days, this simply isn't true unless you have the absolute perfect conditions, which basically nobody has. 24-36 hours is safe for batter. I'm a chef, I've had to take food safety certification courses, get various licenses and certificates, etc. My first job was working at IHOP. We never had leftover batter, but when I started, they put some in a container to show me why we throw it out if it's beyond 24 hours. It isn't pretty.
I can never get all the ketchup out of the bottle. There are always bits left over.
Put drop of dish detergent in the bottle, add a little warm water close tightly and shake, shake, shake. Shake your bottle! (Sorry) Repeat as needed, then rinse the same way

Add A Little Brown Sugar To The Egg To Caramelize Your French Toast! Also, Yay For Breakfast At Dinner!
We use cinamon in the Netherlands. Healthier then adding sugar. (With milk you get Wentelteefjes :) )
I use cinnamon for flavor, I don't think it helps to caramelize it though? Melted butter before placing the French toast is great for that. Also, a dash of vanilla in with the eggs is delicious.
Load More Replies...OR.... you can add a tablespoon or two of orange juice! Very yummy and same effect.
I mix in some maple syrup. You get the caramelization and don't need to put syrup on top. Excellent for little kids.
I use brown sugar for my French toast. I've tried cinnamon, but it always separates in the mix. You can also add a little maple syrup too!
Try The Lemon Method Under The Salmon To Avoid Burning Your Fish
You can use the bottom of a springform pan, also. Lemon will not only kill the natural fish's flavor, but will also overcook it. If you like your fish lemon-ey, just add some zeste on top instead (grated lemon skin)
And hot bottom of springform pan isn't going to burn and overcook it?
Load More Replies...Not true, I cook it with potatoes and lemon at the bottom of the pan and it always comes out crispy and delicious

Don't Want To Mess Up 10 Bowls For Tacos? Use Muffin Tins!
it would be called salsa with cheese, this person just deconstructed it
Load More Replies...But...muffin bowls are harder to clean. Wait. can they go in the dishwasher?!
Aluminium stuff should be fine. Anything like iron, some types of steel, will react with certain chemicals, which might be present in some dishwashing detergents and rinsers (one part of a dual action), and cause them to corrode.
Load More Replies...well, there are really only 7 unique ingredients there, and assuming that is not home made sour cream and salsa, and that the cheese is already grated and in a bag, those 4 items already come in a container. i am sure if you put that stuff in a muffin tine, the presentation isn't really a consideration here so you would just serve the salsa, sour cream and cheese out of their original containers and that just leaves you needing 3 bowls for the tomatoes and i guess those are yellow peppers, and onions. i think 3 bowls would be easier to clean than that muffin tin.
Splatter Shield Was Too Small For My Pan
I've read that leaving a wooden spoon over the pan reduces the temperature but I'm not sure if this is true
It's not. To dissipate the heat, you need a good heat conductor, i.e. something where the heat doesn't stay in one place but spreads, so its whole surface can help with the cooling. A wooden spoon is great for cooking because it DOESN'T heat up all over. What you'd want for that is something that feels cool to the touch (=removes your body heat from the place you're touching) and heats up fast when you put it someplace hot. Something large and metallic would do the trick.

Pour Some Coffee Into An Ice Cube Tray. Freeze Your Ice Cubes And Use Them In Your Ice Coffee Instead Of Regular Ice Cubes
Where I come from, "iced coffee" means coffee with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I was so bewildered when my husband ordered one in Portugal and was served a cup of cold coffee with ice cubes in it. :D

Microwave Crisps! Cut The Potatoes As Thin As Possible, Spray A Plate With Oil, Arrange The Potato Slices And Sprinkle With Sea Salt. Microwave For 3-4 Min Then Flip And Microwave For Another 2-3min
I’ve made microwave crisps a lot, they aren’t that great to be honest. Edit: I make them when I run out of Wotsits and Doritos cause I need SOMETHING unhealthy to shove in my mouth
They might be improved by a "pizza plate" which is basically a big disc of metal surrounded by ceramic. The concept is you microwave it for a few minutes until it's extremely hot, put your frozen pizza on it, and return to the microwave for a few minutes more. It helps the crust to remain crispy, and might add some browning to your potatoes.

No way, the packet in Ramen is what I call the death pack. It's got WAY too much salt in it (and this from a guy who likes movie theater popcorn!). Interesting idea, but not so much if you are watching your sodium intake.
You are right, this, shown in the pic is mama and not ramen. Mama and a few other similar snack noodles are designed to be consumed steamed or uncooked as is. It has lesser sodium and I would definitely not recommend doing this with ramen seasoning.

If You Add Fresh Pineapple Juice Or Crushed Pineapple To Your Meat Marinades, Not Only Will It Lend The Meat Its Natural Sweetness, But It Will Also Perfectly Tenderize It.
I heard that if you use kiwi, you won't get bothered by the flavour.
However, one must not leave the meat for too long in the pineapple marinade, because it will turn into grey pieces of slimy matter...
Pineapple also starts tenderizing your mouth when eaten. However, your saliva and then your stomach acid combats this.

I have tried this and it works wonders. The air hits the bread which dries out instead of the cake, even when inside a cake caddy.

The Easiest Way To Cook With Fresh Garlic. Also A Great Way To Prevent Waste
This needs explanation for the non-kitchen types. I’m guessing it’s a rather large amount of peeled garlic, pulsed in a food processor then loaded into a freezer bag, pressed flat, then divided by gently using the back of a chefs knife? Then you load it into the freezer where you can then break off a little tsp. sized square when you need one? As a former pro, I’m gonna tell you it’s ok to just use a garlic press…..
You can buy frozen garlic and ginger cubes in most supermarkets though? Are they just as good as the fresh stuff?
