As usual someone will go completely overboard wth this and perhaps create huge banana leaf plantations that kill the local flora and use up too much water.

True for bananas, but surely there are other fibrous, resistant leaves. Like figtrees leaves which are fairly common in Mediterranean countries.

That's not new for us here in Nagaland, or in the north eastern states of India. We use it to pack edible items like fruits, vegetables, meat, etc. Also as temporary roofing materials & bed in the rice fields.

I used to do something like that with my toast when I was a kid. I'd bite two opposite corners and have Australia. Then I'd bite another corner and imagine it a house with legs. Then I'd bite a leg off and have a Chinaman (wearing straw hat). I cant remember where I went from there (struggling to remember that much).

Blanch first then deep-fry. Ends up heaps crunchy outside and creamy soft inside. Make sure they are thoroughly dried first, of course (maybe drain on paper towels, but at very least drain and leave to sit in colander).

A cuisine of a region builds up over hundreds of years, refined and evolved by tons of trial and error by thousands or millions of people to get the perfect balance and then along comes something like this, like a plastic flower.

The Cajun one is completely wrong. Cajun and Creole cooking doesn't typically use cumin or ground coriander seed. Here's the one I use. 4 parts garlic powder 3 parts paprika 2 parts onion powder 2 parts oregano 1 part black pepper 1 part white pepper 1 part cayenne pepper 1 part thyme

They are continuations from the previous line where it says "continuation". It's probably more apparent in person when the colors are more visible, but you can see how the continued line matches the color of the section it was continued from.

Do not follow the Italian spice blend when it comes to making your own pasta sauce. Italian marinara/spaghetti sauce does not have oregano in it. It's bitter and overpowering. The only spice blend you need for marinara is basil and parsley. And always add it during the last 10 minutes.

Also. Don't just read left to right like I just did. Pay attention to the "continued" and where the vertical line is for full spice combination.

Lettuce is crunchy and yum! If it has a bitter taste you might want to wash it more thoroughly or look into different varieties that pique your interest more. My favorite lettuce is bronze mignonette, a member of the butterhead lettuce group, which is less bitter and slightly more nutritious than iceberg. Just a suggestion! 😊

The coffee one is absurd. Coffee is a lot like wine - once it's exposed to oxygen it starts decaying, getting worse by the day. Within a couple of weeks you're left with a terrible, bitter flavor from being so stale and broken down. It'll hold for few months if sealed - but needs to have a one-way valve so it can degas.

the reason mustard is such an incredible ingredient in dressing: the mustard seed hull has mucilage, an emulsifier that helps hold the oil/vinegar/water together. people not putting mustard in their dressing because they don't like mustard are missing out - it doesn't take a lot - you're not really adding it for the flavor.

I dunno about this one - part of the magic of oven bacon is the low-and-slow: give enough time for that fat to slowly render out and then it fries in its own fat. People miss the mark for crispy bacon when they try to pan fry / microwave it too quickly.

I've done it both ways, and prefer not using a rack since it always ends requiring too much scrubbing to get clean. Just lay the bacon directly on parchment paper, and turn it over half way thru. Drain on paper towel. Comes out perfect.

Just so you all know, you cannot store pancake batter for more than a day. Please don't use this as a way to store batter for later use long term. You will find all kinds of bs via google claiming it's good for up to 4 days, this simply isn't true unless you have the absolute perfect conditions, which basically nobody has. 24-36 hours is safe for batter. I'm a chef, I've had to take food safety certification courses, get various licenses and certificates, etc. My first job was working at IHOP. We never had leftover batter, but when I started, they put some in a container to show me why we throw it out if it's beyond 24 hours. It isn't pretty.

Aluminium stuff should be fine. Anything like iron, some types of steel, will react with certain chemicals, which might be present in some dishwashing detergents and rinsers (one part of a dual action), and cause them to corrode.

well, there are really only 7 unique ingredients there, and assuming that is not home made sour cream and salsa, and that the cheese is already grated and in a bag, those 4 items already come in a container. i am sure if you put that stuff in a muffin tine, the presentation isn't really a consideration here so you would just serve the salsa, sour cream and cheese out of their original containers and that just leaves you needing 3 bowls for the tomatoes and i guess those are yellow peppers, and onions. i think 3 bowls would be easier to clean than that muffin tin.

    Dynein

4 years ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

It's not. To dissipate the heat, you need a good heat conductor, i.e. something where the heat doesn't stay in one place but spreads, so its whole surface can help with the cooling. A wooden spoon is great for cooking because it DOESN'T heat up all over. What you'd want for that is something that feels cool to the touch (=removes your body heat from the place you're touching) and heats up fast when you put it someplace hot. Something large and metallic would do the trick.

Where I come from, "iced coffee" means coffee with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I was so bewildered when my husband ordered one in Portugal and was served a cup of cold coffee with ice cubes in it. :D

They might be improved by a "pizza plate" which is basically a big disc of metal surrounded by ceramic. The concept is you microwave it for a few minutes until it's extremely hot, put your frozen pizza on it, and return to the microwave for a few minutes more. It helps the crust to remain crispy, and might add some browning to your potatoes.

You are right, this, shown in the pic is mama and not ramen. Mama and a few other similar snack noodles are designed to be consumed steamed or uncooked as is. It has lesser sodium and I would definitely not recommend doing this with ramen seasoning.

Ahh, the days of Gourmet student cooking.... For a quick and easy pizza, spread ketchup on a slice of white bread, add some grated cheese followed by any toppings you want (I recommend spring onion and reformed ham for a tasty but cheap option), then grill until cooked.

Avocado stays fresh as long as it's not in contact with "open" air. If you ate just half of it, put it in a sealed container (jar, tupperware, etc) and it will be perfect the next day. Works WAY better than the plastic wrap.

It's mainly to reuse candle jars that has reached to the bottom, the excess candle wax would have melted off from the sides.

Cornflower (aka bachelor button) is also edible, so are the flowers from pretty much any vegetable. Snap bean flowers are really delicious and come in a variety of colors. I make a lot of pretty salads every summer. I had one last night with a raspberry vinaigrette.

This needs explanation for the non-kitchen types. I’m guessing it’s a rather large amount of peeled garlic, pulsed in a food processor then loaded into a freezer bag, pressed flat, then divided by gently using the back of a chefs knife? Then you load it into the freezer where you can then break off a little tsp. sized square when you need one? As a former pro, I’m gonna tell you it’s ok to just use a garlic press…..

Better yet, do it in a mason jar. When you want to make the smoothie, run the jar under warm water for a few seconds to loosen the contents before dumping it in the blender. Then when the smoothie is blended, you can pour it back in the mason jar to drink it. No plastic waste.

Even better: put the pizza on a sheet of parchment paper, stick it in a skillet, and heat it up at medium-low with a lid on for a few minutes. Works best with an induction burner, just be sure you don't use foil if you do it that way!

Cast iron skillets are the best. Headlines advertising good ideas but without explanation are the worst. Salt, heat and oil (and a pinch of elbow grease) is another solution.

If you inherit one that is very rusty or pitted (or find one in the woods like I did), electrolysis is a good way to restore the surface finish prior to re-seasoning it.

This would not work if you want to use 5 different spices and all of them are mixed with salt, you end up with salty food. Spices are a good alternative to salt.

The mix of all of these ingredients (see original labels) PLUS the salt make a new seasoning mix that's called "Everything Bagel" seasoning. OP doesn't suggest you add salt to all of your seasonings ;) Just poured the finished Everything Bagel Mix back into the original jars (now labeled incorrectly).
