I’m A Romanian Comedian And Here’s What I Replied To Bernie Sanders’ Condescending Tweet
My name is Sergiu Floroaia and I’m a comedian from Bucharest, Romania. Yesterday, Bernie Sanders posted a tweet saying “Today, people living in Bucharest, Romania have access to much faster Internet than most of the US. That’s unacceptable and must change.”
Just as many other fellow Romanians, I felt the tweet was condescending and needed to be addressed. So here are my Twitter replies.

At least he didn't say "Budapest". But seriously, get over it. Iohannis dissed me last July 4th, but I'm still glad he won. Having lived and paid for internet in both countries, I believe he's actually right: it IS unacceptable. It's not that the US has inferior technicians or technology, but monopolies and price-fixing, which are unacceptable. As for him losing, well, I imagine very few people who vote in US presidential elections were in any way bothered by this gaffe. We're looking at the potential election of a president who wants to build a wall on our southern border. Unintentional dismissal of Romania is not going to be the deciding factor. I'm not saying he won't lose, but it won't be because of this.
US has inferior cabling structure. While the internet came really fast in the US, in Romania it came really late so the best option was to use fiber link, compared to what the internet first had used cooper to transport the data. The thing is that the salaries in Romania are pretty low, so from a 250$ minimum on economy you pay around 15$ internet tax. The internet speed is the only thing Romania has good. But nothing else.

Dude, that's funny and all, but nobody thinks about context. First of all, it's his staff posting on that account (it says so, take a look). So, the condescension comes from a PR someone that grew up with this rhetoric and blurted it out just like any other unconscious "America is the greatest country in the world" soundbite that is deeply engraved the minds of many in the US. So, why would you mindlessly slam Bernie and maybe do some damage to his campaign? The US election results will have an impact not just internally, but also on foreign policy. Be more mindful and at least slam the mindset not the guy, since you're getting on this gravy train.
