Love can be life-changing for everyone. And for rescued animals, this is literally what happens. When given a new forever loving home, neglected cats blossom.
As they discover affection, care, and friendship, time flies. And guess what? The transformations are so powerful you can see them with the naked eye! Bored Panda contacted Louise Lee, the media officer at the non-profit Blue Cross For Pets organization, which specializes in animal adoption in the United Kingdom. We asked Louise if more people are willing to take the “adopt, don’t shop” approach these days. Luckily, it seems so. “We rehomed over 9,000 pets last year, which has increased significantly since a decade ago.”
The stigma about rescued cats is slowly fading away. “Such misperceptions that these pets were all given up because of behavior and that they're 'broken' are gradually changing, and people understand pets are handed over for all sorts of reasons,” explained Louise.

Louise said that “we’re working hard not only to change the perception of pets in rescue” but also to help people who can’t cope with their pet. “We seek to take the 'shame' away from people who are struggling to cope with their pet and decide to rehome or their circumstances change.” As a result, the adoption assistance team at Blue Cross never judges anyone.
But the pet adoption expert warns that it’s important to get the whole family on board when it comes to adopting an animal. “Make sure everyone in a family wants a pet and understands their responsibilities, the time needed, and financial commitment before getting a pet.” Even if taking in a pet will surely have an effect on your lifestyle, it really pays off seeing your kitty happy.

Her mother was run over by a car and left dying. Nobody in the neighborhood cared about it, so I adopted them. Both were sick, couldn't really walk and were skinny. Sadly her brother died shortly after we took them to the vet. She lives for both of them now.

My oldest cat was thrown in a garbage bag when she was 2 months old. Before that her little tail had been slammed in a door. She has a tiny break in it to this day. How can people literally just throw cats away? There are no words. (In case anyone reads this, she is 9 years old now and is a lovable diva! She insists on being carried to her food then won't eat til you pet her haha).

I'm not a cat person but I'm told I do have a soft heart. I've had 2 cats. The first was Suki. She had been dumped under a bush in the rain during february 27 years ago. She had a dirty plate with scraps of cat food. Took her in and she grew up to be absolutely fearless. She would sit in the living room window growling at passing dogs and sit on the fence winding up the neighbours 2 staffies. One day they got her and she had to have her leg sewn up from the base of the tail to the back of the knee. Guess what she did when she got better? Got back on the fence and meowed the staffies into a frenzy! My Ex kept her after we split up. The second was dumped in a box with 3 other kittens and they had died. We buried the lost ones after calling the police. No one was arrested. We had loads of help including help from the police popping in to see how he was doing. We named him Neelix. When he was recovered and healthy we found he was permanently in zoomies mode but he loved belly rubs.

Oh my! Our kitty came from a very good shelter, she was given away as an unwanted kitten and never suffered street life or beating, or being hurt... BUT - she was still miserable and she changed so much after we took her home. She grew almost twice the size and her hair is almost twice as long as it was at the shelter. Even the best shelters cannot replace a loving home!

I hope you'll encourage everyone you know with pets to make provisions for them in their wills or at least be sure there is someone who pledges to adopt them if you are unable to care for them.

These are REAL rescues. Finding a kitty that is all types of f****d up on the side of the road, paying the vet bills etc is so much different than going to the shelter and adopting one in the same manner you would from a pet store. Those ones come ready to go. These ones have some assembly required, but the reward and love is even greater. Well done all!

I don't see what's wrong with rescuing a cat from a shelter. Shelter cats also need a home. And when people are ready to get a cat, they probably won't stumble on an abandonned kitty. Anyway, it is wonderful to see people committing for the good of our feline friends.

This is not what love can do, this is what good care can do. You can love all you want, if you don't feed them, bathe them and take them to the vet, nothing will change.

The idea is that if you love your pets, you will care for them properly, feed them, clean after them, and attend to their every health need. If you don't love or care for them, you will do nothing.
