The Szondi Test: 8 Portraits That May Reveal Your Hidden Personality
In the 20th century, Hungarian psychiatrist Léopold Szondi developed a test to reveal a person’s unconscious thoughts, desires, and impulses. The psychiatrist believed that people are attracted to those who are similar to them. Thus, he created a projective psychological personality test called the Szondi test.
Recently, after a Facebook user named Junji Noe posted a shortened version of the psychology text with pictures, it quickly went viral, with thousands of people showing their curiosity about their hidden personality traits. While the test can undeniably pose some interesting results about different personalities, it is recommended not to take the Szondi test at face value, as it lacks a scientific basis.

How Does the Szondi Test Work?
The Szondi test involves showing the examinee a series of headshots taken of people who suffered from various mental disorders. The examinee is then asked to pick out the two most appealing and two most repulsive photos of them all.
The choice was then analyzed and could supposedly give insight into parts of the examinee’s personality that they were satisfied with and dissatisfied with. Back then, the psychological test with pictures included six photos of each of the eight main groups, with a total of 48 photos. The psychology test pictures were chosen from psychiatric books published around 1900.
However, this psychology test with pictures was later dismissed, with other psychologists stating that an individual’s physical appearance cannot be a good signifier of their mental health. Despite not being commonly used today, the Szondi test still bugs people’s minds.
What is the Most Trusted Personality Test?
The Szondi test online version (or the original version) is not scientifically based, and its accuracy is highly questionable. However, there definitely are personality tests that can be trusted to give you a fair briefing of your character.
The most trusted personality test is known as The Big Five personality test and is widely considered to be the most scientifically accurate test. The test is based on five key personality dimensions—openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism—that determine the core of our individual personality makeup.
The test requires the testee to answer sixty questions, and once they are done, a short brief is given to them with a pretty accurate personality description. The description falls into one of the “types.” And if you’re curious about your own personality type, you can always take The Big Five test online.

Load More Replies...Maybe but some companies in Hungary using this test when someone applies to a job.
Load More Replies...Epilepsy isn't a mental illness. Please do not think this test has any validity about the personality type of a person with epilepsy. "Epileptic" is not a personality type. It is a neurological disorder, characterized by repeated electrical discharges in the brain, with varying effect upon the body, and has many causes (some of them not yet entirely known.)
I think most people would already know this. But you have to remember this is a test that was created in a time when they didn't understand what epilepsy was and they truly believed that the cause of these fits were because they were mentally ill, had chronic syphilis, and only the criminally insane would have them. The medical field has come a long way and most people will know this. Take this post as a historical piece of its time.
Load More Replies...As a psychology tutor, I wasn't taken in by this and none of the photos gave me any indication of suffering from any mental disorder. The descriptions that follow are completely falsified. They have zero validity because the experimenter cannot know why you chose any of them and cannot imply anything about your life from that. Basically, if you went along with this, I'm afraid you are a very gullible person and you probably believe in astrology as well.
I thought 3 was the scariest, but probably because my screen was dark so it looked like he didn't have eyes
I agree number 3 is the scariest. Something about that crazy unhinged smile creeps me out.
Load More Replies...I chose number 2 and the description really fits me. Not by trying to read anything into it, i wish i wasnt that way and could just speak up for myself instead of being afraid of confrontation and having no outlet for my emotions. I used to self-harm mainly because of suppressed anger which turned into anger toward myself. And then at some point i will explode pretty much out of nowhere because so much has built up and people will think i am nuts
Ehhh...nope! Totally missed the mark - i've chosen no.4 and anyone that knows me can attest that I'm very picky with the very small circle of friends i keep around, thus having a very strong, personal and in depth relationship with them. So yeah, b******t all the way
Didn't work for me, either. Chose 2, but don't have angry outbursts. Sometimes I'd LIKE to get angry, actually - it'd probably help me to advocate for myself better.
Load More Replies...dude... why the 6th woman really look like me.. i find my doppelgänger
I picked 5.. I have borderline personality disorder along with magical thinking with hints of histrionic personality disorder and it doesn't end there for me. Truth be told I probably could of picked any and found some sort of relation. Lol
I also picked 5 and have bpd (not the other stuff tho). Coincidence? :D
Load More Replies...I found the description for 6 the most accurate and also the least scary face there.
I had the same. I guess either we are not that easily scared or we are scarier than the lot of them.
Load More Replies...Yup. I picked 1 and out of all 8 descriptions number 1 described me best. My second was 4. Which was way off.
I picked 1 because he looked like a mad scientist and I couldn't see his eyes. But it's just all for fun.
Load More Replies...I picked the last one but the first one seems most applicable to me. So either I don’t understand myself or the test is whack. Furthermore, I’m never repulsed by a stranger, but I’d be repulsed by anything or anyone walking towards me in a dark alley, so my choice was definitely forced. I guess I just don’t know myself.
What I find scary is 4, but it's inaccurate to my personality. my personality is 8
I picked 3 a few years ago and it actually was accurate. I have ADHD.
Acording to this test you must have a mental illness. You have to pick a picture, each picture relates to a mental ilness, none wins.
Acording to this test none is health mentaly. Your have to pick one, all of them relate to a mental illness.
I mean the only one I found creepy was neither the most or least accurate one for me, pretty middle of the road tbh. #3 just looks creepy. The photo quality and what not makes him look less like a human and more like a m
So damn creeped out.. My daughter and I both took it and was dead on accurate..
"While the test can undeniably pose some interesting results, it is recommended not to take it at face value..." Great (unintentional?) pun!
No, actually I was creeped out by the two descriptions that were completely LEAST like me at all. The one I felt most comfortable with was the one most like me. But I work in the social work field with some pretty pathological clients, so there really is no surprise there.
Well, what if you don't find any of them particularly scary, appealing or repulsive? I mean, they look like people you might see anywhere, but in more modern clothing.
I was looking at the pictures, and couldn't pick between 2 and 6. They were really tied for me. So I looked at 2 first, "wow that's darn close to me. Well 6 shouldn't be". I look at 6, 😐 "both are equally darn close". Wow.
In Hungary we are using this test nowadays too. When I applied to a job last time, they made me to do it.
Nailed. #2. So calm & collected on the surface but push me in a corner & it won't end well.
it's not exactly established how picking one face correlates to having a particular personality trait. also, no psychologist would so easily classify personalities in such simplistic and rigid terms without understanding the individual. this is as good as reading your horoscope or taking the mbti. then again, looking into szondi's background, he was around during the time of freud and jung so the methods used to study psychology then weren't exactly grounded on hard science. if the result resonates with you, you're probably a curious individual who wants to understand truths about yourself no matter how distressing. you can be quite impressionable and have a tendency to find armchair psychology intriguing and even profound. you also have an internet connection and not just one but two eyes!
Lol what the hell none of these were accurate 🙄 it’s some other stupid superstition this was a waste of my time
I have ADHD and depression and my picks were 3 and 6......
Is it weird that I imagined each of them when they were an infant, then chose to imagine each of their lives and didnot find anyone 'scary' ,I found some sad, some disturbed and others just plain human.I ended up selecting 3 and 5.It was fairly accurate.
Wildly inaccurate. In fact, the picture I found to be LEAST creepy resonated with me the most.
As a person who is both Schizophrenic and has Dissociative Identity disorder, this just doesn't feel accurate whatsoever. :/
Wooow... you shouldn't publish these images, as no one posts the images of the Rorschach test either. This could ruin future diagnostics - as they're still used nowadays, though not exactly the way it's in the description. Also, it's pretty useless without a professional to evaluate.
Nope, didn't sound the least bit accurate to me, but these all seem like the same stupid generalizations you find in horoscopes where most people can pick out one or two things and say that sounds like them.
Mine was #3 and it was exactly accurate. The boyfriend didn't play the game well and just picked at random his made no sense.
The real strength of this test is the same as horoscopes and prophecies; it will somehow fits everyone
It's just like horoscopes. Vague enough to resonate with everybody. All 8 texts have parts that ring true, but you concentrate on the one you picked and think it's accurate. It's nonsense.
You need to take the normal test, it asks you these questions several times with different people. It is actually scary how people of the same profession tend to pick people with the same sickness.
This seems a little like astrological forecasts, where people tend to see themselves in whatever description is used that day. Since we are very complicated a whole lot of things seem to fit. This was my horoscope today. It's so general I think it would fit anyone. "Mar 9, 2020 - Take action on well-laid plans today, Leo. Stay levelheaded, and seek pleasure by taking things steadily one step at a time. Watch out for a forceful, willful, fanciful mindset that will somehow cause conflict with your plans unless you consciously make an effort to keep the daydreaming to a minimum. The lines of reality may be blurred. Make sure you find the lines of distinction before you proceed."
It was so true... it honestly scared me more than the faces. (Was #2, yours?)
I chose number 3 since none of them seems scary to me except I had to pick one.
So no matter which one you pick there is a problem that needs phsyactric help, looks like a sales poster.
Super accurate, I actually checked to see if any of my friends were like in my room and somehow behind this article
these are far too accurate. it's like the person that made this test looked deep into my soul and changed the results to suit me.
Absolute NONSENSE! The question is who would you be most scared of in a dark alley. Well I think most people, particularly women, are always going to choose a man, purely because of physical power. We have evolved to look for details in people’s faces& behaviour to keep ourselves from danger. The more someone doesn’t look like us, the more we’re naturally suspicious... It’s a BS concept where everybody can find something about themselves in the description.
Then ALL of them apply to you, as you must be scarier than any of them ;)
