Yes and besides they might need new furniture when the flood subsides. Who else are you going to buy from other than the store that gave you food and shelter.

S Missions .... What a cynical and negative outlook you must have on life . The store is trying to give a little dryness and comfort to those who have lost everything and are cold and wet .... Probably did not think about whether they would buy something at a later date .... Shame on you !

Actually, according to the dogs owner, he regularly visits the local lumber yard, where the owner feeds him. The yard was closed but apparently a door blew open and let him in, so he helped him self to lunch to-go.

With all the wildfires in British Columbia people had to be evacuated while the firefighters, police, RCMP had to stay. Tim Horton's coffee shops and doughnuts are iconic in Canada. one of the shops in the fire area filled all the pots with coffee and all the milk/sugar etc dispenser and left the store wide open so the workers could help themselves. The RCMP took turns making more coffee and getting the milk/sugar etc filled.

I thought the same. But maybe she said "Bring the dog! " and he said "How, I have to carry all this stuff here" and she said "You take the dog, I'll take everything else" - and that's how that pic happened. That would surely be the case if that were my dog and my husband ;-)

That dog looks heavy. I know I couldn't carry my dog, but she's a good swimmer, so I'd have to hope she could swim alongside. Or I'd find something to float her in.

Sadly not all Texans...many actually left their pets to drown, chained or crated. Not sure why they would do that. If you can't take them at least set them free so they have a chance to live.

So 6 million people could have sat in gridlock traffic while roads flooded? They had the best chance at survival where they were. Plus there was no exact way of knowing where it would hit hardest. This is what they had said 30+" for Austin we got Houston's forecast for rain and they got ours and then almost doubled it.

It depends on how the grids are laid out in that area. If the lines were all overhead power may have been left on for essential services. Underground cables would likely have been shut off regardless.

I saw this picture and the story that went with it and it would seem she (the dog) will have a happy ending after all. I have copied and pasted the story for you . In the midst of the hurricane, a dog was spotted chained up and abandoned as flood waters from Hurricane Harvey rose up around it. Photos taken by the DailyMail.com show the dog tethered to a telephone pole in Victoria, Texas, where as much as 10 inches of rain have flooded the area in just 24 hours. Photographer Ruaridh Connellan rushed across the flood water, which was fortunately not dangerously deep, and untied the dog, who wagged her tail and bounded off to safer ground. He now calls her Lucky. She's safe, and Connellan has since been back to feed her. DailyMail.com has been unable to trace who was living in the trailer. Connellan would be happy to look after her, after forming a bond with the energetic pup. "I'd love to take Lucky to live with me in New York, but I'll have to wait and go through the proper channels

The question I have that hasn't been answered yet is: Was the dog tied up specifically when the owners left, or was the dog ordinarily on a tie-out line in the yard? If things got serious and you were mostly concerned for your spouse & children, it would be easy to forget that the dog was on a tether in the yard.

Do you see a fence? Nope. Having lived in TX, fences are better for cattle. If it is foggy or rainy they prevent the cattle from wandering into culverts or rivers. They also find fences to help guide them home if they can't see. Yes, this one specific flooding incident makes fences 'bad' but no fences would be 1000 times worse.

Airboats are the most efficient in case of flooding. They basically don't have keel and can navigate in shallow waters, having a flat hull.

In ancient Greek mythology, a young man called Aeneas carried his father on his back, and his son to Italy, after Troy was his by a huge tidal wave. When he and other people with him got there, the founded a city, which eventually became Rome (after it was renamed by Remus).

@Margie Lazou, nice quote but Aeneas legend speaks, through the words of the (latin) poet Vergilius, of Aeneas leaving Troy (engulfed in flames, not flooded) with his father Anchises on his back. After a long journey he reached Italy and eventually founded some cities but not Rome. In some instances of Roman mythology the roman twins Romulus and Remus (founders of Rome city) have been identified as direct descendants of Aeneas. This was done after about 500 years from Rome foundation in order to include the Rome foundation into the Ancient Greek legacy and mythology, trying to "forget" the real Etruscan origin of Romulus and Remus. Giving to Rome an origin from "Greece" side would eventually give more benefits, cultural and economical to the same Rome.

Inflatable kayaks (especially the inexpensive ones) don't track very well in the water, especially moving water. Simply hanging on would be the best use of energy.

Unfortunately, like I've directly witnessed here in Fiji during a major flood in 2009, the poor animals just give up for stress or fatigue, lay down and get drowned. But most of them will follow the spirit of survival and look around for any elevated place, also if just few inches from where they are.

All species are equally important. Fencing in a large area to keep cattle off the roads is totally different from keeping an animal in a cage just a little larger than itself, just to provide entertainment and amusement.

There are automatic safety system to cut off the power from those power lines. Or eventually made by the technicians themselves. In no way people can get electrocuted. Sometimes the flood can damage the power central first making them out of service in the very first hours of flood. You can also see in the pic how many lines are already interrupted and broke. It will be no easy to bring back the power in those areas.

Until then, maybe you should help instead of write uninformed comments on every picture.

I understand why you'd take a picture of this, but it's not right in any respect to post a picture of something that's died. You wouldn't do it for a human. These are all very difficult images for people to see, but death is not something I was prepared to see when viewing these photos. Please take it down.

The human death toll is now around 30, death itself is to be expected in this natural disaster. These were labeled "powerful" photos, and although I admit it is a tough picture to view, it's not like we can just shut out the horrible things that have happened.

Why do people take pictures of people the moment they hear something terrible? Like "Oh, I'm sorry to tell you but your grandpa was trampled by a llama today" *click* Is there something wrong with me for not understanding, or something wrong with people for being such d***s?

Yea, the X means that there is no one inside. You'll see houses or other structures with a 1, 2 etc written on it, and that signifies the presence of a deceased.

This looks like a Ford F150 Raptor, for which there are a number of aftermarket elevated cold-air intakes. It's likely the owner has installed one. The vehicle can be driven in water up to the top of the intake column.

This is pretty sad and all, but if I'm not mistaken POTUS denounced the Paris agreement because global warming is BS and there's no hard scientific proof of this global warming nonsense. Well, there's part of your proof, mr. Trump. Probably more to come. But hey, it's not global warming, it's God's will.
