A Furniture Store In Texas Is Providing Shelter And Food For Hurricane Victims
The owner 'mattress mac' has always helped his fellow people in troubling times. He's a good man.
Yes and besides they might need new furniture when the flood subsides. Who else are you going to buy from other than the store that gave you food and shelter.
Load More Replies...I hope everyone in Houston buys furniture from this man after this!
James "Matress Mack" McIngvale has the biggest heart! God bless this man!
I'm pleased to see that everyone is keeping their feet off the furniture :)
S Missions .... What a cynical and negative outlook you must have on life . The store is trying to give a little dryness and comfort to those who have lost everything and are cold and wet .... Probably did not think about whether they would buy something at a later date .... Shame on you !
A Dog Named Otis Is Walking Around Sinton Tx Carrying A Entire Bag Of Dog Food With Him
He was never lost. His owners said he's "social" and gets around town on his own! Crazy, huh?
Load More Replies...Actually, according to the dogs owner, he regularly visits the local lumber yard, where the owner feeds him. The yard was closed but apparently a door blew open and let him in, so he helped him self to lunch to-go.
This dog should become famous, he is so smart. This just goes to show animals have thoughts and feelings, as well as intelligence. Otis certainly has my respect!❤
OK guy driving white truck you see me here carrying this heavy bag of dog food and you would think you'd stop and give me a lift. No now I am stuck just walking down this wet road......

Dog Hanging On During Houston Flooding. She Was Rescued!
This pup reminds me (by looks and circumstances) of my best buddy, Toby, who was rescued on Chadwick St. in the 1973 flood by our good neighbors in Jacinto City TX. Thanks again to the Frank and Romona De Los Santos Family on Chadwick St.!
People are chaining and tying up their dogs to leave them behind. WTF?! Totally heartless & illegal! Roman Forest PD Chief Carlisle is promising accountability!
I can understand pets getting lost in a situation like this (just takes the dog bolting away in fear at the wrong moment) but why on earth would you leave them tied up or crated? At least give the poor thing a fighting chance!

My Friends Out Rescuing People And Pets In Houston Today And Taking A Break For Donuts. Closed Unfortunately. Good People!
Wonderful people---crummy govt and American Red Cross keeps 92 cents of every dollar
Yep Donuts for us and donuts holes for the dogs....what closed???? Oh Great.
With all the wildfires in British Columbia people had to be evacuated while the firefighters, police, RCMP had to stay. Tim Horton's coffee shops and doughnuts are iconic in Canada. one of the shops in the fire area filled all the pots with coffee and all the milk/sugar etc dispenser and left the store wide open so the workers could help themselves. The RCMP took turns making more coffee and getting the milk/sugar etc filled.
Like I said before, times like these shows who really cares and has a really good heart.
Getting Home After A 49,5 Hour Shift Working Hurricane Harvey
Did you honestly put 49.5 hours on your time card? I think in this instance we could round it to 50. Thank you for your good work.

Isiah Courtney Carries His Dog Bruce Through Flood Waters In Beaumont Place, Houston, Texas
I smell a meme coming here. Notice how mom is carrying the kid and most of the supplies, while dad basically just has the dog. I'm just assuming the woman behind and to the right is with him.
I thought the same. But maybe she said "Bring the dog! " and he said "How, I have to carry all this stuff here" and she said "You take the dog, I'll take everything else" - and that's how that pic happened. That would surely be the case if that were my dog and my husband ;-)

That dog looks heavy. I know I couldn't carry my dog, but she's a good swimmer, so I'd have to hope she could swim alongside. Or I'd find something to float her in.

How is it a bad headline. What matters is that they got out safe. Looking at the children, they don't look scared at all. It looks like they think it's a big adventure. Thank you Harris County sheriff's Deputy for your brave work. I'm sure it's very appreciated.

You can't leave them behind, they are living beings just like us and they deserve whatever help that can be given to them.
Sadly not all Texans...many actually left their pets to drown, chained or crated. Not sure why they would do that. If you can't take them at least set them free so they have a chance to live.

So 6 million people could have sat in gridlock traffic while roads flooded? They had the best chance at survival where they were. Plus there was no exact way of knowing where it would hit hardest. This is what they had said 30+" for Austin we got Houston's forecast for rain and they got ours and then almost doubled it.

Load More Replies...Why is there electricity into a flooded area?? I know it is essential, but at this point, it can do more harm than help.
It depends on how the grids are laid out in that area. If the lines were all overhead power may have been left on for essential services. Underground cables would likely have been shut off regardless.

This Poor Dog Was Left Chained Without Any Hope To Escape
I saw this picture and the story that went with it and it would seem she (the dog) will have a happy ending after all. I have copied and pasted the story for you . In the midst of the hurricane, a dog was spotted chained up and abandoned as flood waters from Hurricane Harvey rose up around it. Photos taken by the DailyMail.com show the dog tethered to a telephone pole in Victoria, Texas, where as much as 10 inches of rain have flooded the area in just 24 hours. Photographer Ruaridh Connellan rushed across the flood water, which was fortunately not dangerously deep, and untied the dog, who wagged her tail and bounded off to safer ground. He now calls her Lucky. She's safe, and Connellan has since been back to feed her. DailyMail.com has been unable to trace who was living in the trailer. Connellan would be happy to look after her, after forming a bond with the energetic pup. "I'd love to take Lucky to live with me in New York, but I'll have to wait and go through the proper channels
Load More Replies...Like why, it's one thing to leave them but deprive them of all chance if survival, there is seriously something wrong with that person.
The question I have that hasn't been answered yet is: Was the dog tied up specifically when the owners left, or was the dog ordinarily on a tie-out line in the yard? If things got serious and you were mostly concerned for your spouse & children, it would be easy to forget that the dog was on a tether in the yard.
Load More Replies...Yes she-female dog- was rescued by that photographer of Daily Mail. But they are searching for her owner.
May sound harsh, but her (hopefully now former) owner deserves the same treatment.

I get that people were - rather pressed for time in evacuating, but really?? How f---ing long does it take to unhook/let your animals out and say 'good luck'? Personally you would not get me out without my babies - but really? A******s.
So lets take a picture of the dog and label it "no hope to escape." The owner should be ashamed of themselves. At least give the dog a fighting chance

Being smart. Staying away from snakes, fire ants and who knows what else is in the water. Houston has bayous.
Sometimes you just wanna try to reach your family and make sure they are safe. If you see a flooded road in front of you, you don't think about being blocked by high waters, you just think about your family...
Yes before we had a stormwater management system built here, you could see this happen in less than an hour of rain.
This is why some areas were told to "stay put." A lot of evacuees died on the road trying to escape Hurricane Rita.

Thank you to all the police officers & others who helped! Too often they get negative press.
That could be easily a grin given by distress or heavily breathing. The mouth sides lifted up are not necessarily a sign of happiness or joy, but just a way to take more air intake trying to not fully open the mouth and swallow filthy flood waters. But important is Mr.Wilford is safe now.

Cattle Are Stranded In A Flooded Pasture On Highway 71 In La Grange, Texas
Do you see a fence? Nope. Having lived in TX, fences are better for cattle. If it is foggy or rainy they prevent the cattle from wandering into culverts or rivers. They also find fences to help guide them home if they can't see. Yes, this one specific flooding incident makes fences 'bad' but no fences would be 1000 times worse.

An Elderly Man Is Carried After Being Rescued In East Houston, Texas
In ancient Greek mythology, a young man called Aeneas carried his father on his back, and his son to Italy, after Troy was his by a huge tidal wave. When he and other people with him got there, the founded a city, which eventually became Rome (after it was renamed by Remus).
@Margie Lazou, nice quote but Aeneas legend speaks, through the words of the (latin) poet Vergilius, of Aeneas leaving Troy (engulfed in flames, not flooded) with his father Anchises on his back. After a long journey he reached Italy and eventually founded some cities but not Rome. In some instances of Roman mythology the roman twins Romulus and Remus (founders of Rome city) have been identified as direct descendants of Aeneas. This was done after about 500 years from Rome foundation in order to include the Rome foundation into the Ancient Greek legacy and mythology, trying to "forget" the real Etruscan origin of Romulus and Remus. Giving to Rome an origin from "Greece" side would eventually give more benefits, cultural and economical to the same Rome.
thanks for the rest of the info, it was a tale I read long time ago. :)

A Cow Struggles To Keep Its Head Above Floodwaters Near Fulton
Unfortunately, like I've directly witnessed here in Fiji during a major flood in 2009, the poor animals just give up for stress or fatigue, lay down and get drowned. But most of them will follow the spirit of survival and look around for any elevated place, also if just few inches from where they are.
All species are equally important. Fencing in a large area to keep cattle off the roads is totally different from keeping an animal in a cage just a little larger than itself, just to provide entertainment and amusement.
Where the hell is this bloody farmer? Probably safe somewhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Man Walks Through Floodwaters And Onto The Main Road After Surveying His Property
There are automatic safety system to cut off the power from those power lines. Or eventually made by the technicians themselves. In no way people can get electrocuted. Sometimes the flood can damage the power central first making them out of service in the very first hours of flood. You can also see in the pic how many lines are already interrupted and broke. It will be no easy to bring back the power in those areas.
There has been several people killed by down powerlines in Houston. So just make sure the powerlines are off or better yet, just stay away from them. It's better to be safe than sorry.
This one makes you realize the extent to which their infrastructure is taken out. Really it will take a long time to get back to normal.
Oh my those power lines could fall completely and electrocute all of those people! I hope everyone stays safe.

A Car Is Submerged On A Freeway Flooded By Tropical Storm Harvey
I hope it was empty. So many people told to stay in place by the mayor then after shtf then they tried to evacuate. Unfortunately the government isn't always right.
Let us know when you come up with a surefire plan to safely evacuate 6.5 million people out of a city the size of the entire state of Connecticut within a 48 hour period all ahead of a storm that is completely unprecedented and unpredictable. RIP SWEET BABY. :( :( :( ANOTHER ANGEL GOT THEIR WINGS. I am so crying now
I understand why you'd take a picture of this, but it's not right in any respect to post a picture of something that's died. You wouldn't do it for a human. These are all very difficult images for people to see, but death is not something I was prepared to see when viewing these photos. Please take it down.
The human death toll is now around 30, death itself is to be expected in this natural disaster. These were labeled "powerful" photos, and although I admit it is a tough picture to view, it's not like we can just shut out the horrible things that have happened.

Daisy Graham Reacts To The News That A Friend Of Hers May Still Be In An Apartment That Was Destroyed By Hurricane Harvey In Rockport
Why do people take pictures of people the moment they hear something terrible? Like "Oh, I'm sorry to tell you but your grandpa was trampled by a llama today" *click* Is there something wrong with me for not understanding, or something wrong with people for being such d***s?
Let me know if you figure out the answer Marlowe, I don't get it either.

Yea, the X means that there is no one inside. You'll see houses or other structures with a 1, 2 etc written on it, and that signifies the presence of a deceased.

Residents Use A Truck To Navigate Through Flood Waters In Houston
This looks like a Ford F150 Raptor, for which there are a number of aftermarket elevated cold-air intakes. It's likely the owner has installed one. The vehicle can be driven in water up to the top of the intake column.

This is pretty sad and all, but if I'm not mistaken POTUS denounced the Paris agreement because global warming is BS and there's no hard scientific proof of this global warming nonsense. Well, there's part of your proof, mr. Trump. Probably more to come. But hey, it's not global warming, it's God's will.
This has nothing to do with "Global Warming" And it is most def not "Trumps" fault! I swear if Trump came out in support of oxygen Ya'll dumb SOB 's would suffocate Yourselves!

She's now stuck in her house (house is not flooded but neighborhood is so can't leave) and can't return home for several weeks. Another friend of mine is down there with his boats and jet skis (owns a rental company) and is rescuing ppl. Meanwhile, I'm stuck in Ohio. I've been super sick for about 2 weeks now and I can't do anything but read about what's happening from online 😔 Born and raised 7th generaton texan I know how strong Texans are and that if anything this will bring us closer together. I hope and pray everyone will be ok, stay safe.
I have a question- this happens in US a lot...Why do people still build their homes from wood which get blown away & destroyed so easily? I know someone explained to me that wood is cheaper...But is it worth to keep losing everything every time this s**t happens? Im not from there, and dont know all the details, so please someone explain this to me. (Prayers go out to all people in Texas)
I lived in Houston for many years. It's a wonderful city, however, there are not enough exits out of the city. When evacuating over 6 million people, things get tough. Some people can't get out even if they want to. Unfortunately they didn't expect the hurricane to act as it did plus they listened to the mayor who said to stay home. This is a good reminder, if your gut tells you something else, listen to it.
Has anyone noticed that over 1200 people in southern india died this week from flooding? No matter where this type of thing happens it's a tragedy, but i find the lack of attention on that part of the world pretty disgusting
It's a tragedy what happened to you there , but i can not abstain myself not thinking at central Asia and the Philippines each time there is a monsoon out there, each year and no one gives a s**t, each year... but i guess this is western media.
