A survey in 2023 asked people in the Yulin region about the consumption of dog and cat meat. 73% responded that they had consumed the meat of dogs, cats or both in the past year. Less than 4% stated that they while they had consumed it within the past year, they had or intended to stop. Globally, 30 million dogs and 10 million cats are slaughtered for meat each year, almost entirely in Asia, and primarily at restaurants or festivals. It really doesn't matter if 80% of citizens are opposed to it, because the remaining 20% aren't, and they're the ones propping up the industry. A whole bunch of people recognize the dangers of wet markets, steps have been taken to ban those...but the people who don't care, will continue to do what they want.....and what they want, is to hang a living animal up by it's hind legs, dip it into a vat of boiling water, skin it alive and leave it to suffer. The process is what people object most to, and have for a very, very long time...yet it continues.
