Then your claim about America being 2nd World. I think that definition isn't exactly true. The term "1st" "2nd" or "3rd" world doesn't refer at all to the prosperity of the nation; on the contrary, the terms were made to refer to the global political divides of the modern age. 1st world simply referred to those who opposed the USSR (NATO). 2nd World simply referred to Communist allies (China, Cuba, etc). 3rd World simply referred to everyone else. Again, emphasis, these terms do not at all describe economic conditions. America stays 1st World so long as it opposes the "communists" (now that the USSR is gone, this probably refers to Russia and China).

GoGoPDX very well said. Everything the right claims the left is doing is projection and gaslighting. Just like you know exactly what tRump is doing by just listening to him accuse whom ever he's pissed at. He is the king of self projection.

I am responding to your economic points. The rest I agree with. You make all sorts of claims about the horrors of America's economic conditions. I think that's only partially true. Some systems are horrible; others, meanwhile, are great and improving. I think these bad institutions are offset by the good ones. Multiple studies find that the standard of living and purchasing power of the middle class improved. The net prosperity of the common American is up. I quote the Federal Reserve: "We find...that prices in housing, healthcare, and education have risen more than middle-class incomes and so are relatively more expensive. However, we also find that these price increases are offset by relative price decreases in transportation, food, ...making real middle-class incomes slightly higher than in the past."

The Fed can say what they'd like, but I know what my gas and food bills are. Statistically, it may show a slight improvement, but we will be waiting long for tangible relief. I'm sorry I have no quote to back my up my observations, so I suppose they'll count for nothing.

I have no clue about your experiences, so it may be different. However, the data and statistics are clear: on the aggregate, normal Americans are more prosperous than they were 5, 10, 50 years ago. There are definitely many problems in America, I concede that, and this statistical improvement doesn't apply to everyone, but America's going strong, way stronger than many progressive politicians claim.

Yet due to gerrymandering and unfair play we have a conservative Supreme Court that is trying to make abortion illegal (some states you can vote, but others, like my own are taking away our rights without a vote) , and don’t say gay, don’t be grand laws are sweeping the nation.

That I am against. I am for Roe and for lgbt rights. But, economically, I think American Capitalism is doing a fine job increasing the prosperity of the normal American, as evidenced by multiple stats.

GoGoPDX, I agree 100% that the two party system has torn us apart. The government has us fighting between right and left, when the majority of the population are moderates. I still have hope for this country and will never stop fighting to make it better. We have our problems, but not nearly as bad as the majority of other countries around the world.

Having you eyes open and your head out of the sand is a preference here, for sure. If you're conservative and don't want to be confused by facts, probably not the site for you.

By "facts" they have unsubstantiated tweets or Reddit posts, and almost never from an actual expert (economist or statistician). And the comment section of BP, although lively and fun, is also filled with rhetoric and very few statistics. If they do present statistics, they are often incomplete or misleading. To be clear, I'm not criticizing BP or its people.

I will admit, while America is doing fine economically, I am less than optimistic about America's political future. There have been some eerie similarities between the fall of the Roman Republic (with the populist Tiberius and Gaius Gracchus) and America's present political climate.

Also, many of us complaining are minors. Others are just mad that our rights are being taking. Honestly, running wouldn’t be so bad, especially with Florida’s “parental rights act”(don’t say gay), and a whole myriad of don’t say gay, don’t be trans bills at stake, not to mention the overturning of Row(nationwide legalized abortion) and a Supreme Court that puts Obergefall at risk. Can you blame us for not wanting to live in this backpedaling country?
