That’s where one lively Facebook group steps in, collecting and poking fun at the most questionable “scientific” claims people have come across. The results are both hilarious and eye-opening, as members share examples that sound smart on the surface but fall apart under even the most basic scrutiny. While it’s easy to laugh at some of these so-called scientific claims, how often do we actually pause to question the reasoning behind them? Take products labeled as “scientifically proven,” for example. Many people have fallen for the promise without ever checking if there’s real evidence to back it up. Marketing buzzwords can be incredibly convincing, and it’s easy to grab that skincare cream, diet supplement, or fancy gadget without thinking twice.

My children are vaccinated and definitely not "chemical free." My oldest (now 12) was tested for the school district's gifted program in 2nd grade (about 7yo) and scored in the 98th and 99th percentiles for the US in all categories. But, sure, the vaccines and chemicals are making them stupid.

I was vaccinated as a child in the early 80s and I tested into the gifted program as well. Just ...be aware, putting a child through a gifted education program (even if the child tests into it) is... not always a good thing. Burnout is very real and happens quite often in "gifted child" education programs. (My mom was extra horrid and pushed me into starting college at age 14. It.. did not work out well at all, shall we say)

IQ tests don't really mean anything. The psychology department at the University I was at advertised for volunteers for a study. Sleep deprivation and how it affects your mind, heath etc. So I took the IQ test, got 158 then after three days? I'd been working, went out one night but only had 3 light strength beers, completed an essay, all my course stuff, basically had about 3hrs sleep during that time. I completed the full testing and my IQ had dropped to 89! 😄 But yes, I DO have a brain! I've seen the MRI of it so neeeer! 😜

To be fair, the way that percentiles are described IS counter-intuitive. Most people would think this means 'the top 7%'. HOWEVER, that is EXACTLY why they state what the result means, directly underneath. You have failed a reading comprehension test, if not an IQ test.

This got worse as I looked at it. There is a very clear explanation at the bottom.
But how often do we actually check whether these claims hold any real weight? More often than not, they’re just clever advertising tricks designed to sound impressive, without any real scientific backing. Science, after all, doesn’t deal in absolute “proof” the way we often imagine.

The British secretary of the Flat Earth Society came to our school to give a talk. He spent nearly all of the allotted time explaining why he was unqualified to speak on the subject, so we never learned much about their beliefs. At the end he said he was too tired to answer questions. Made us wonder how dedicated he really was.

Someone glosses over the horrible lung conditions that came before the invention of the chimney. Also a slightly weird timeline with fire invented long before trees existed, coal never used, and no light between the building of the Pyramids and the US civil war, tc.

Hurricane Michael was a classic example of the effects of a warmer Gulf. Looking at the approaching storm, the eye was present. When it got close to Cape San Blas, and the much warmer shallower water, it became a bullet hole and devastated Mexico Beach.

A comment on a post of someone asking how to treat roundworm in their chickens.
As someone who worked in vet med, I am also very repulsed that their dogs frequently get roundworm.....if they're not treating with dewormer, they likely have never cleared the infestation in those poor babies (or their family if they truly all are infected).

Nope, sorry to disapoint, I'm getting my next booster in a week or two. I've never missed one. Also, I've never had covid and I'd like to extend that streak. I also have a few conditions that would complicate covid if I were to catch it. I'm good. P.S. I took my first flu shot 25 years ago and I've haven't had the flu in 25 years. THAT is solid research if you ask me.

My mom genuinely believes that it is 100% possible for someone to live without consuming food or water and instead subsiding on the air they breathe because they’re in tune with earth according to her. She also believes that the earth is flat no matter how many times I try to prove it to her. She always ends up saying that I shouldn’t attack her for her “opinions”
