Being a woman is exhausting.

Not just because you have to think about your safety in ways others don’t, manage a 28-day hormonal cycle, or work twice as hard to climb the career ladder. But also because, somehow, women still have to listen to men confidently spewing nonsense about their bodies, experiences, and lives as if they’re the experts.

It happens so often that Reddit has an entire community—Not How Girls Work—dedicated to calling it out. Here, the most laughably wrong takes on women get the mockery they deserve, giving everyone a space to collectively cringe and commiserate.

See the subreddit’s best (or worst) posts below and join us in venting in the comments.

Considering how much daily criticism women receive about their identities, it’s genuinely uplifting to find online spaces that make women feel seen and supported. Not How Girls Work does exactly that—it calls out the bizarre, outdated, and often sexist misconceptions some people still have about women.

Because let’s face it, anytime you try to point out misogyny online, there’s a high chance someone will show up to dismiss your experience or try to “prove you wrong.” That’s why communities like this matter. They offer a break from the exhausting need to constantly defend your reality.

If you’ve ever felt drained from having to repeatedly explain why gender equality still matters or found yourself being told to stop complaining because “everything’s already equal,” you’re not alone. There’s actually a term for that experience: gender fatigue. It refers to the frustration that comes from being expected to stay quiet about discrimination just because some people believe the fight is already over or think there are “more important” issues to address.

On the surface, gender fatigue can look like eye-roll-worthy comments. But its impact runs much deeper. It influences public opinion and slows down real progress toward equality. Feminists have been saying for decades that the fight isn’t over, and if you dig up an article from 2009, you’ll already see claims that feminism had achieved its goals back then. Now, in 2025, with abortion rights under threat even in countries considered progressive, those claims seem absurd.

Only 43% of Gen Z men say they consider themselves feminist, compared to 61% of Gen Z women. No other generation shows such a wide divide.

So what’s fueling this change? Researchers Eva Bujalka and Ben Rich argue that one major factor is the rise of the “manosphere,” a loosely connected web of podcasts, forums, and websites that promote anti-feminist beliefs.

What makes the manosphere especially dangerous is that it doesn’t always come across as overtly misogynistic at first. It draws in young men by speaking to real issues—like loneliness, rejection, and a sense of purposelessness—and then gradually introduces the idea that women are to blame for their struggles.

So where does that leave us? I don’t have all the answers, but I know one thing. We can’t let ourselves be silenced just because we’re tired. We can’t let gender fatigue win. If anything, it’s a sign that the conversations we’re having matter more than ever.

Of course, that brings up another tough question: how do we reach the young men who are deep in these online spaces? Because if we simply attack their beliefs, it often just reinforces them. Still, that doesn’t mean we should sugarcoat the truth or tone ourselves down. As Helen Lewis put it in her brilliant 2020 piece for The Guardian, “Fighting the tyranny of ‘niceness’: why we need difficult women,” we need to make space for women who aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo.

“I’m not talking about being rude, thoughtless, obnoxious or a diva,” Lewis says. To her, difficult means complicated.

“Most of us are more than one thing; no one is pure; everyone is ‘problematic’. Look back at early feminists and you will find women with views that are unpalatable to their modern sisters. You will find women with views that were unpalatable to their contemporaries. They were awkward and wrong-headed and obstinate and sometimes downright odd—and that helped them to defy the expectations placed on them,” she believes.

And if it was a vaginal birth, you don't even stop bleeding for 6 weeks. And doctors tell you NOT to have sexual contact before 6 weeks. So this sorry excuse for a human has been SO DEPRIVED for all of two weeks, while his wife is going through an enormous transition. If he were any kind of partner, he'd be growing through this transition with her, learning how to care for a baby and putting personal wants to the side.

Like literally, they handed me a paper to show my partner that there was to be NO SEX for ten weeks. Then the doctor gave me a bracelet with it on it. Then the nurse told him. Then the doctor reiterated it before my discharge. Then they gave him a pamphlet on the dangers. So clearly this is an issue.

It is very serious issue and can be fatal if the woman is unlucky enough that the far too early vaginal sex has pushed air into the not yet shrunk down uterine wall vessels and caused an air embolus which has travelled in the bloodstream. The time to just chill out and let that area heal and get back to normal can range from as little as four weeks to up to twelve weeks for some women. Most women have lochia for about 6-8 weeks and that is also why your midwife will be checking daily early on to make sure the uterine fundus height is reducing so we know things are going ok and why there is a you and baby check at around the six or eight week mark to make sure there are no problems developing with either mother or neonate. It is an issue we see with a lot of women in DV situations where male partners will not stop demanding sex in the immediate postpartum period and the women come in with trauma and other complications

Baby for a man is a few minutes rubbing and a squirt. Baby for a woman is nine months of heavier and heavier big lump pushing away the internal organs, kicking the bladder, etc. Then it's like pushing a bowling ball through a small opening, for hours and hours. Then it's about two months' v*ginal discharge, and a few more months of healing. If you talk to the OB/Gyn or midwife, they'd probably say that "intimacy" should not be resumed until about 6 weeks after the birth. The new mom is both healing AND spending a lot of energy to provide breast-milk. There is little or no energy left for anything else. YOU need to acknowledge HER. Do you take care of YOUR CHILD, so that your wife get to rest as much as possible? If she's rested and healed, she can once again resume "intimacy". What did you think it would be like? This info is readily available online; didn't you do ANY research beforehand? And NO, I have not given birth myself, but as I'm able to read, I know anyway.

I read a horror story a looong time ago. A man was in some Asian country and went to a sex worker. He refused to use a condom and actually raped her. Her grandmother was a medicine woman and placed a curse on him. Every pain the girl had he would feel it, not her. Nine months later he was screaming in agony as she gave birth, painlessly to his child.
