I Took These 22 Brutally Honest Photos Of Moms To Show What “Mother’s Day” Really Looks Like
952Kviews
Everyone talks about how special motherhood and parenting is, and the bond shared with a child is unlike any other, it’s a magical journey that is both rewarding and satisfying, and I couldn’t agree more. I absolutely love being a mom, it’s the best job in the world. I am a mom of two boys and love them to pieces, but Raising kids is not always all rainbows and butterflies.
Motherhood is not remembering what it’s like to get a full night’s sleep and wiping more poop than you ever thought you’d see in your life. Raising kids is no longer having privacy, never peeing or showering in peace. Motherhood is using your shirt to wipe runny noses and dirty faces. Life with little children is learning how to do everything with one hand while carrying a baby in another. Motherhood is waking up with a little butt or foot in your face. Motherhood is breastfeeding whenever wherever. Motherhood is yoga pants and bad hair days. Motherhood is no longer shopping alone. Motherhood is a filthy car all the time. Motherhood is not being able to call in sick because it’s a 24/7 job without a paycheck, and the list of everyday problems goes on. But in the end, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Having young kids and being a mom means being completely and totally overwhelmed by love, joy, responsibility, and selflessness.
With the help of my mommy friends, I created this little intimate photography project just in time for Mother’s day, to remind everyone what motherhood really looks like. Some might find these interesting pictures raw, but that's how it is in real life.

Motherhood Is Never Peeing Alone
Motherhood Is Never Shopping In Peace
When The Kids Go To Sleep
Sleep Never Lasts Long, They Find You
Motherhood Is Being Your Kids' Entertainer
Motherhood Is Never Sleeping In
Now my kids are adults my dogs do exactly the same now, theres no winning.
Sometimes Moms Need A Time Out To Have A Sip Of Wine And Check On Their Phones
hahahahaha! love it! I remember when bananas in Australia cost heaps ($12.00 AUD a kilo), I would have to sneak away from the kids to have one.
Motherhood Is Breastfeeding Whenever Wherever
Probably an unpopular opinion but if a kid can ask for the breast they are probably too old to be breast feed.
Motherhood Is Never Ending Laundry
Motherhood Is Never Showering In Peace
Motherhood Is Being Kicked In The Face At Night
Gah this is terrible but something about that little snuggly baby beside you makes it worth it
Motherhood Is Cooking With One Hand
Motherhood Is Trying To Keep Your Kids Alive
Motherhood Is Not Being Able To Call In Sick
Motherhood Is Being A Nurse Or Wiping Kids' Noses With Your Shirt
Motherhood Is Having No Privacy
Honestly, all of these will be misses for the while i have kids but i can't wait... i want children even more now! i love this post!
Motherhood Is Having Little Helpers To Help You Cook
'Uh..oh..don't do that, go away, watch tv or something' there, that's more like my mom..she is such a good cook but so perfectionist that she didn't allow me to help when i was little..
Motherhood Is Being A Housekeeper
My mum taught us to pick up after ourselves, even at that age - otherwise we'd feel the wrath of dad. And once she had cleaned it was expected to stay that way - as she put it .... "you can play, but we're not pigs so we will not live like pigs" The same with closing doors to keep the heat in "were you born in a barn...no...then shut the door" (never understood the barn. But I always shut the door)
Motherhood Is Trying Not To Lose Your Mind
kids need rules and boundries ofc.. but you also need patience and let your kids be kids.
Motherhood Is Being A Maid
For a lot of reasons, saying that Mom is a maid really raises my hackles. We all do a lot of things for our kids. I don't know, but when it gets said like that it's almost like an expectation or a task. I willingly did all those things when the kids were little, but I wasn't a maid! Not for my own kids.
Motherhood Is Breastfeeding On Demand
I love this mom. She doesn't sweat the small things, and looks to allow her children to be little and enjoy life.
Motherhood Is Never Shopping Alone
Two under control , now try to see what the third one is trying to do.
where are all the dads when this is going on???
thanks for your concerns :) baby is not even 2 years old... btw my own kid is 3 and still breastfeeds at night and I don't see anything wrong with that. have a blessed day !
lol sorry, I commented under the wrong comment :) These are stay home moms ... they have to do everything alone while dads are at work :) that's why they are not in the picture. I am one of them, that's why I decided to show how my days with kids look like :)
That's all good. Just wondered why the dad wasn't helping out...
ha! ok, fair enough. good pics!
You don't see anything wrong? That doesn't mean it isn't wrong- just that you haven't studied into went to stop breast feeding properly. I hope for your & their kids sake they aren't old enough to remember being breast fed when they are older, that kind of thing will screw them up in the head.
Taking the pictures. I wouldn't let in a total stranger to take any of those pictures especially with bare bottoms and going to the potty.
If you are okay with showing the world photos of you going to the potty, etc., you probably have no problem letting a stranger photograf you like this. And who said the photographer has to be a stranger if not the dads (which it wasn't), it may be a friend.
You do notice that this is a MOTHERS DAY photo shoot, right? It’s talking about kids and mothers.
At work, obviously.
The dads are working, so moms can stay home and bond with their kids!
bond with their kids = clean, cook, take care of everything so the dad can just rest when we comes home? Smells like 1940s.
Providing. Who do you think supplies everything?

Some of us are busy working our arses off for over 24 hourams a dat to put a roof over our wives and children's heads. Just sayin dude...just sayin.
Of course instant dad-bashing.
My husband's job is super stressful. I don't mind if he comes home and relaxes. If I ask him to do something/ want to go somewhere he'll take handle of them. I don't know why women think it's the "1940s". It's a partnership. If they can't understand that then kids were probably not the best option.
d'uh?
Maybe at work so they can make money for the family to live on ever think of that?
I think this re-confirms my childfree status.
Sarah Collier Same here.
Mine too! And ppl keep asking me why haha.

Very good for you. Best you keep it that way.
Reinforcing yet again that not having kids was the smart choice.
I'm thinking abt that too :( And I'm not old enough to not have the 'you will one day want kids' reply every.single.time
@Random Panda - Show me on the doll where it hurts you that I don't have kids. Parents are the arrogant ones anyway. Trust those of us who know - YOU are the only one who thinks your kids are cute.
Not everyone should have kids, and it is good you recognise this. The worst thing in tge world is when a selfish, ignorant, immature fool has a child by accident, and then tye child pays the price and later society. The world thanks you for not unleashing more of your dna and creating more people like yourself. You made the right choice, and we thank you.
Why so bitter? If you feel that strongly about not having something, you may want to think about root causes rather than boast about it on the Internet.
Reinforcing that i agree with you. The world needs less trolls, and pathetic selfish people like yourself. The world thanks you for not contaminating society with more of your DNA.If only your parents had felt the same about having you, what a better place this world would be.
did you ever learn to respect others choices and thinking?! your parents had you but obviously never taught you anything...i'd say the mistake to the world is you and your kind of thinking, not the ones that do not want to have kids...
You say that on every. Single. Post. About kids. We get it. We do not care.
Why do you care that she posts? Fuck off.
Jealous, much? I don't give a rat's behind if you DO have kids, and quite frankly, when I see kids running amok in a store, I breathe a sigh of relief. I don't have to take them home.

I respect your choice to not have kids, but maybe you can also respect other people and not insult their intelligence over something this natural. It doesn't make you look all that smart.
Pretty sure they meant it was the smart choice for them and not insulting those who decided to have children. No need to sound all petty and take it so personally.
No one's insulting anyone here. Maybe stop being so sensitive and arrogant. You are not better than anyone else because you squeezed a kid out of your hoohaa
Seeing photos like this just reassures me that I've made the right decision to never have children. I don't like mess, I want to sleep when I want, do what I want - when I want, I need my alone time (I suffer from anxiety), I can't stand noise I can't get away from (gives me a headache). And I want to work outside of my home, and not put my career on hold. Not saying I don't have huge respect for mothers out there, I'm just not made to be one.
Not everyone should have kids, and it is good you recognise that you shouldn’t. The worst thing is when a selfish person has a kid,and tge kid has to suffer because their stupid parent couldn’t grow up. The world thanks you for not polluting society with your offspring.
The world thanks for not polluting it with other people generally ;)
Aww, not a headache!
Congrats
Pretty much.. It's no glorious life with couple of young children.. No social life, to tired to function and body & mind left right after the dead beat dad.. I made it through, but it sums up the mess you become when dealing with the madness a couple of small children are.. Never again!

That's a sad way to look at it. Hopefully your kids come through with a positive attitude
Ben, why are you so interested in how others feel about having kids? They did not ask for you 2 cents.
Not a sad way to look at your kid it's a reality
Motherhood is much messier than these photos depict... :-)
These pictures are cool but they make me realise how much I am not ready for this! XD
I love that almost all of the mums look really calm and loving with their children.
Lol ikr?! Not one frazzled look or eye roll lol
Motherhood is a lifetime amazing adventure. Mothers are special.
Being a mother without any help is a tougher job anyone can ever imagine unless you are one. There are lot more than these pictures show. In Asia, it is much worse. Sad part is that no one appreciates while the mother is doing all these without a hum. This will never change. No wonder most girls prefer not to have children unless you are forced to.
So glad we decided vacations > kids.
Ok, here's the thing. Everyone only looks at the worst of childhood. Like seriously, kids don't just skip from being a toddler to an adult. Kids can be ok at some point.
Some moms just want to be like martyrs.
Ok, I'm more complaining about platforms like Bored Panda, not the mothers themselves. Raising kids can be rough, it's just that some people only look at the worst of it.
Staged photos really help capture the realism.
Motherhood is certainly one thing : Multitasking!!!
What person thinks raising children is all rainbows and butterflies? Whoever they are, they probably shouldn't have children.
Happy early mothers day, moms!
AS I understand the idea of the project, I still have concerns about showing naked children on the Internet. You don't know who can watch those and the thought that some pedophile can be jerking off to those right now is repulsive. Besides, I as a grown up wouldn't like to know that my butt, even when I was 2 or 3 at the time was shown to unlimited amount of people. I also take pics of my kiddo, but I respect their privacy. If she will want to share her children pics, she will do herself when grown up.
I find it disturbing too. Bored Panda even once had the guts to devote a whole post to nude children doing summer things... They said it was for them to get closer to nature but for me, call me a prude, it was just pedophilia abound...
These photos are totally innocent. Get over yourselves and join the 21st century.
And this is where people just have differing opinions. End of the line, all the mothers in these photos consented to having these photos taken, edited, and then shared on this website (or so I would likely believe as many of the pictured mothers have seemingly commented on here). And while many may not agree, a topless child is generally considered the norm in many, many cultures, and so are their bottoms. Yes, it's distilling to think of a lurking pedophile on here, but that alone is not an issue isolated to this post. I also don't like the post of the kids doing summer things ... that's too much.
I bet you wouldn't like naked pictures of yourself as a child spread all over the internet. People are plain idiots when it comes to this. They want attention and don't even think twice to protect the privacy of their children who aren't old enough to consent to this. Doubt anyone in their right mind would want naked photos of themselves on the internet, no matter their age in the photos
YOU are the sick one if seeing a naked baby makes you instantly think of someone masturbating.
People like you are the ones that made it "inappropriate". Theres always gonna be creeps til the end of time... Starting to judge nudity is what starts all the battles. We are humans born naked. Some of our most enjoyable moments in lofw invovle being naked. How is it still being shunned to be naked?
Motherhood is never talking about the good stuff only the hard
Apparently lol
Ah, good old boredPanda- I replied to one comment, and it glitched my reply to every damn comment on the page...
Thank you for this post! I have 2 under 5 and a third on the way, and I couldn't relate more to the pics: it's hard, it's insane, it makes me question myself a lot - and yet it's the most wonderful thing I'll ever get to experience and I'm thankful for it every day. (And good to see the sensible responses to the anti-breastfeeding comment too.)
This whole post is so accurate. Especially the bathroom and shower pictures in my case.
😧
Yes yes and yes
It’s really not like this at all, there are days sure, but with everything else in the world good comes with bad. I’m on my 4th child and I work full time away from the home, none of my kids have ever seen a day care either as my husband and I work separate seasons. I couldn’t be happier.
Curious, why did you decide to have four? Will you have more?
Mom of four here. Kids are now 14-20 years old. We had our trials and fun times. I don't remember much of their childhood as I was doing my best to survive with 4 under 5... however, the kids remember all the cool things we did, all the park visits, all the fun meals I made for them, the crafts we did, the messes we made together. I look back now and know that survival mode may have been all I could muster, but to them, it was so much more.
That’s sad. Survival mode? 🙁
i agree 100% but single dads have the same problems except for breastfeeding which i have no problem with
What’s with all the people saying breastfeeding is gross?!
I would not change my job for my wife's at home!
I agree with most of the above stated comments. I never wanted to have children and have no feelings one way or the other to those who do. Rarely do parents regard me with the same respect.
No one should have children if they do not want to...but do not be so definite anymore, if your parents thought the same as you ... you would not have existed today. We do not have to judge each other, parents will always say what a great thing is to have children and those who do not want children will always say what a great thing is to be free...we all live the lifes we choose to live...
Even in smiling photos, all the moms seem to intentionally present motherhood as so miserable and hard. I think it may be because they have nothing else going on in life and want to be seen as heroes who do so much hard work and deserve society’s praise. It’s sad. They don’t realize they are just making it look like they’ve made bad decisions. I don’t think I want kids but if I do decide to have a child, I would do it completely opposite from these people who claim they never get a moment alone and can’t clean or lose weight. That’s bullshit. Yes you can, lots of moms do. But they don’t go on the internet looking for attention.
