It's no secret that Americans do things a little differently from the rest of the world. But, as the first European colony to win independence, they've had lots of time to form the unique identity we associate with them today. So let's take a few moments to celebrate all the quirky and ridiculous little things that make the USA what it is, even if we still fail to understand them.
When the United States broke away from the rest of the European world in 1783 following the American Revolutionary War, a cultural shift began that is still developing today. Though the lands we now know as America mostly share a history of British occupation, tea and crumpets have long been replaced by coffee and donuts. America has given the world countless gifts, such as rock music, groundbreaking cinema, and New York City - in fact, it's probably the most culturally recognizable place on Earth. Still, for those of us on the outside looking in, the United States sometimes seems like a bit of a circus.

Well, was a culture, then the Europeans killed a bunch of them. Then the European culture was there then... I don't f*****g know what happened. I'm Canadian. I don't know if people say we don't have culture, but we dooooooo.

you can ask a country who's not 300 Yo to have a culture! France, Brittain, Germany, Egypt are pretty old country who developp their culture over the year. USA was a melting pot of every culture of the world. we'll see in 300 years

The German states was united in 1871, Italy between 1815-1871, Norway got its independence from Sweden in 1905. Those countries are younger than the USA, and after my opinion have a much more complex culture. The difference is that in those countries, the human beings who came there was from the same people, while in the USA different people from different countries was smashed together, and the culture is then a much more chaotic one.

Yeah I live 5 minutes from Freedom high school. Conviently located 30 minutes south of Washington DC in Northern VA. My middle school was named after Mills E. Godwin, a man who lobbied to keep schools segregated. (They recently voted to rename the school)Not too surprising though.

That one moment someone calls you a Brit because you don’t act like an American. Anyway, this is unfortunately true for 98% of Americans at least. People get so strung up on the “America First” ideology and believe that it’s the best country ever. Canada, taking into consideration how pacifistic the country seems to be, has beaten the US in combat before. That speaks volumes. The US never was and frankly will probably never be the best.

The only thing that upset me is the fact that they had to bring an animal into this. Eagles are amazing and beautiful even if the people in my country are the complete opposite.

So true and funny. I'm Canadian and being neighbours with THAT is like taking care of your yard house, making it pretty and welcoming to everyone and your neighbours is a junkyard with xenophobic and homophobic signs everywhere that yell at everyone. Make your f*****g wall but not just between 'murica and mexico but all around, you don't know from where the enemy will come ! ( And we just have to fill the giant bowl with water after that to make the world a better place to live )

I suck at math, but I know who fought in the American Civil War, hell, a kid in France knows who fought in the American civil war. IT WAS OURSELVES for those of you scratching you heads. I know I just pissed a s**t load of you off. GOOD!! AND NO, the siege of the Alamo was not during the Civil War. Know who John Wayne is? Look it up. I'm a 34 year old heterosexual female. Suck it!!!!
