Today we would like to present you with another bunch of funny comic strips. This time we bring you a portion of humor straight from Chicago, USA! The “The Mediocre Superheroes” series strips away the glossy facade of the supernatural and reveals the imperfect side of these extraordinary characters. The comics are created by two talented artists, combining their skills together in order to create a unique world of mainstream superheroes. The authors of this one-of-a-kind series are Andrew Nadeau, a renowned Chicago comedian and writer, and Phil Thompson, an imaginative illustrator from Wonder City Studio.

Through "The Mediocre Superheroes," Andrew and Phil aim to demonstrate that the challenges we face as “regular people” are not unique. By portraying superheroes as flawed and relatable, they uncover the myth of perfectionism even in a super-powered world. The authors invite readers to embrace their imperfections and find comfort in the knowledge that everyone can stumble and fumble along their journey.

In our previous post, we got to talk to Andrew Nadeau, who shared with us a couple of interesting facts about “The Mediocre Superheroes”. First of all, we found out how the comic series was born. The author revealed that during the pandemic, he was searching for a new project since he couldn't perform on stage. Phil Thompson, who was a big fan of Andrew's comedy writing on Twitter, recognized this and approached him. They decided to collaborate and that's how "The Mediocre Superheroes" came into existence.

Since the beginning, the concept behind Andrew’s and Phil’s creation was to portray superheroes in ordinary situations, such as attending a job interview or going about their daily lives. This departure from the typical side of superheroes intrigued them. The artists found amusement in the absurdity of certain aspects accepted in mainstream superhero stories. The authors often feature established heroes in their work because they wanted to place these extreme characters in normal situations.

Developing the universe of “The Mediocre Superheroes” was quite challenging for Andrew and Phil. They intentionally aimed to create a coherent world, which meant following the rules they established. Unlike many other webcomics where characters can be interchangeable, the characters in “The Mediocre Heroes” have distinct personalities and behave in specific ways.

Nadeau has also shared his passion for creating something that he believes in and that brings joy to people. He mentioned that comedy allows him to find humor in the most challenging experiences and use laughter to make someone else's journey a bit easier. Combining his vision with Phil's artistic talents was an incredible opportunity for him to see his ideas materialize.

Dang villains, always trying to be evil and ruining your plans, and then telling you to eff off like YOU’RE the problem! (Come to think of it, if you just let them be evil, you wouldn’t have to deal with it.)
