When Tyler Wilson spotted a wandering Golden Lab near his home in Kentucky, he thought the pooch was lost. “I’ve seen the dog a couple weeks before around that area,” Wilson told The Dodo. “So when he came up to me at the gas station and sat next to me, I was like ‘this dog has been lost for a while.'”
Wilson was relieved to see the doggie had an ID tag, but he would never had guessed what it read: “My name is Dew. I am not lost. I like to roam. Tell me to go home.”
“Once I saw it, we both looked at each other and I knew he was OK,” says Wilson. “It was so cute.” But Wilson didn’t tell the pooch to go home just yet. “I pet him and even hugged him,” Wilson says. “He got me a little wet from the rain, but it was worth it.”
It turned out Dew is a bit of local celebrity, known for strolling around on his own and greeting people. After his adventures, he always returns to a nearby farm where he lives with his family. “Dew loves to make new friends,” his owners told The Dodo. “Fortunately, Dew is chipped and wears a GPS tracker so when his sneaky little self gets out and about, we always know where he is! He just likes to spread the love.”

These dogs are wonderful.Their temperament makes them perfect as companions, and they make perfect skinny-dipping partners.
Load More Replies...In low traffic areas, a smart dog is pretty safe. I miss a small town just because of this. Both our dogs loose, died of old age.
Load More Replies...It's a lovely story in many respects and he's a beautiful dog. Just stay safe fella.
Not something I would let my dogs do I would be terrified if they got hit by a car or stolen!
It doesn't matter whether it's a big traffic area or small, letting a dog wander is just not right.
Because they need to be kept inside all the time and us to watch over them? That just seems like a human's interpretation of how our pets should be obedient... They know where the dog is and most importantly, the dog lives his life the way -he- wants.
Load More Replies...NICE i love loose dogs. Dog poop is fertilizer. That is why i love it here in mexico. Lots of loose dogs. I have a few dogs that visit my house whenever. They seem to only show up at the right time. Why should mans best friend be on a leash?
Ha ha! Good for you, but I don't like stepping in dog poop! :-)
Load More Replies...I'm gonna be the party pooper here. Sorry. It is cute, but I consider that to have a pet, you must be a responsible owner. I have two dogs (golden retrievers) and I never let them wander around the neighborhood as they please. They sure are friendly, but you never know if they would get in trouble with other animals or people, or get hurt themselves. Also, does "Dew" wait to go pee and poo until he goes back home? I don't think so. He poos whenever and wherever he feels like. He's a dog! And even if he is friendly, cute and all, you must respect the others and their property. I don't like to find poo on the sidewalk or my driveway, no matter how "cute and friendly" the dog (or cat) could be. You want your pet to make new friends? Take it to the park, visit other friends with pets, take it to pet friendly places to socialize.
sounds like a farm town - may be only 5-6 farms nearby NOT a neighborhood. living in the country you get lots of wandering animals and whatnot - some domesticated some not. we'd get our neighbors turkeys all the time, they'd see our dog occasionally. nothing crazy.
Load More Replies...My yellow lab was hit by a Lincoln Town Car with a boat trailer on the back in a tiny neighborhood with a 20 mph speed limit. I was 7 years old and still remember it happening right in front of me. It was devastating. We thought she was street savvy too. Just like you wouldn't let your small children roam free, you should protect your pets. If you love them.
Im really sorry to hear that... Losing an animal is heartbreaking enough but to witness it, especially as a child...i'm sorry.
Load More Replies...What kind of idiots allow their dogs to roam freely? Oh wait, I know the answer: the kind of idiots that don't deserve a dog. Do we allow our toddlers to wander the streets? Why not? They'd probably go home if you told them to. They'd walk around greeting people too. That is, until they got lost or abducted. Some humans are really cruel to our babies ( fur babies and human) why do I compare a dog to a toddler? I compare them because dogs have roughly the same mentality of a 2-3 year old child. Someone should punch his owners. It sounds like a sweet story. I'm sure I'm going to get crucified on this post. However, I work at an animal hospital and I volunteer in rescue. I've seen things happen to innocent pets that are virtually unimaginable, most of which are 100% preventable. So, before you say I'm a "troll" or "harsh", or whatever.... think about it. We are the animals' voice. I don't care what humans think about it, I will be an advocate for innocent animals whenever I can.
I love animals more then humans. Unfortunately there are too many humans who do not feel the same. Not to mention cruel people who will take an animal to abuse, sell, or use as bait. Keep your animals home and in your yard. Wanting to spread love? Take your dog for a walk. Better yet, get an organized walk with many loving animals to raise money for an animal charity' Would you let your children wander around spreading love??? I don't think so.
They are irresponsible pet owners and need to get an invisible fence to keep him safe at home! I've had labs and they are the most perfect dog on earth!
yep I am an animal lover, and I wouldn't let my dog roam like that, a lot of mean people, I knew a dog that did roam and he got himself shot and was killed
Sorry I prefer to keep my dogs safe in my yard. Dew is standing in a gas station, where people drive in to get petrol not exactly a shopping mall or ice creamery, I would safe not entirely a safe place. Not all people like dogs there are some sadistic people out there, spread the love.....no keep Dew home where you know he is safe.
What an a*****e designer for this website who uses that super gray color for the comments i can barely see it. Not all of us have retina mac monitors you know..
Any way you look at it this is a dangerous situation for the dog. And probably against the law. If not it should be.Owners should be more responsible or not be pet owners.
What kind of idiots just let their dogs roam? Oh wait, I know! The kind of idiots that don't deserve a dog. Toddlers like to play in the street too. But do we let them!? No. Why? If we told them to go home, they probably would. That is, if they didn't get lost. Or hurt. Or abducted or killed by a stranger. Why do I make this comparison? Because mentally a dog is like a 2-3 year old child. That poor dog.
I had a dog like that. He was always getting "arrested" for trespassing or being "at large". He was loved by many and lived to a ripe old age. The animal control would show up with him at our farm and say he wished he could have "arrested" the people that called him in.
They are irresponsible pet owners and need to get an electric fence to have him stay safe at home!!!
If you love something set it free.. if it loves ya.. it will come back!
There are golden retrievers and there are yellow labs. There are no golden labs unless someone crossbreeds the two.
I think you've got two different dogs in your story .... maybe just made up .... but one dog that has two different tails ....
Too inspirational, had a similar issue.an aspin dog was almost lost when myself gone out ...but later found away by our dorm tenants.
What a lovely dog and well done the owners for putting a tracker on him !!
I absolutely love this dogs story. What a cool thing for him to get to do everyday and then return home in the evening. Makes me smile just thinking about it.
Dogs are wonderful creatures. And this guy represents his species beautifully.
If you live in the country, let them roam, IF they come back on their own, I would take my lab to my friends farm just for that purpose. Every freedom caries risk, my friends doglost a leg to the mail man. Did he stay home, hell no, he had to have his freedom.
His face, he knows the jig is up once someone looks at his collar and tells him to go home 😻
Well, one of these days they will find him dead on the street or stolen or picked up and used as a bait dog for fighting. Bad idea to just allow him to roam.
I would still be scared someone took him but its still a great story 😊
I would find that a bit suspicious as, any normal person wouldn't let their dog roam the streets like that.
Thats not wise. What if dog was found badly injured? The red be no way to contact owner which could delay medical care. Put a phone number-Thats what tags are for- not cutesy messages.
"Dew is a bit of local celebrity, known for strolling around on his own and greeting people." so I'm guessing the locals (and especially the local vets) know whose dog he is... plus he is also microchipped and has a gps collar.
Load More Replies...Still it would worry me he might get hit by a car. There are some mean people out there that might not be so nice to him.
I'd be afraid he would get stolen by Bad Guys or hit by a car or truck.
It's all well and good that his owners had that put on his tag, but what if Dew is in a traffic accident? I think his owners are being irresponsible in letting him roam free, even with a GPS tracker on him how would they know if he'd been run over and worse killed? Would they let a two year old child roam freely? I don't think so. They need to be responsible for Dew and look after him properly.
Nope, sorry,. This dog needs to stay at home, in a safe yard. He will end up getting stolen or worse, getting hit in traffic. Also, there are mean people out there who just want to hurt poor animals roaming around. If you love him, contain him. You are not a responsible pet owner if you let your animal roam...especially around gas stations!
They don't care if he gets hit.. people don't pay attention .. texting talking speeding etc !! Dumb owners take his love for granted !!
Not a Good idea the dog could be killed or harmed or just never return, I could never do that and have peace of mind!!!!! Put a fence in your yard and let him wander there!!!
He's a lovely dog but he's probably pooping in the street, so are the owners cleaning up his poop?
This is another example of those "feelgood stories" that ignore common sense. The dog is not OK, and will probably end up dead from being run over, from anti-freeze poisoning or some other reason. The chip won't save him, the tag won't save him and "Living on a farm" won't save him. If that wonderful family cares so much about their dog, they'd teach him to stay home or keep him in a fenced area.
I hope he stays away from high traffic areas. He looks like such a sweetheart!
