I find most people don't understand what it's like to be in a long distance relationship. Sometimes people try to be helpful and say platitudes like "just keep yourself busy", but it just shows how little they know of how different and hard it is to be in a long distance relationship. People who are lucky enough to see their significant other regularly don't know what it's like. When you go months without seeing each other, and then spend only a few days together, that alone time together is precious in sustaining and growing your relationship. In my experience most people don't know what it's like until they have been in a long distance relationship themselves.

I remember when my now sister in law said to her mum how his brother should look for someone near him.... 6 years of marriage in July and we love each other every day more and more, no one should be in the middle of your relationship, you fight for it and in the future it doesn't work out, you feel proud for not giving up when every one else wanted you to.

I had thought I'd hear such things only in a comic or a TV drama, until I got my partner...

Yup, this was us, pretty much every weekend for 4 years. Then we finally got a place of our own together.

I see my boyfriend once a month for one 24 hours tops. He lives in SF and I live in OC... I feel lucky that he has the finances to fly or drive once a month but it's still hard to say good bye.

My ex and I tried doing the long-distance thing, but it didn't work for us. I was in Alaska and he was in North Carolina, and it was very hard. I still think about him a lot, and I sometimes wish I didn't end it. He's married now, and I hope he's happy. I hope he doesn't think about me like I think about him. It's painful.

that´s so true -_- every night when he isn´t right by my side.

My now ex husband use to stay up all night just to say good morning to me when I woke up. We were three hours time difference. It was the most difficult relationship of my life. I still remember the feeling of complete joy when he would do such sweet gestures.

So funny, I used to be in a long distance relationship with a guy named Samuel too. I was in France and he in Switzerland. Now after two years I have moved to Switzerland too. :)
