People On This Page Are Mocking Capitalism, And Here Are 30 Of Their Best Memes
Like Neo from ‘The Matrix,’ some of you Pandas might sense that there’s just something deeply wrong with the world. You might not be able to put your finger on it, but some online groups like the ‘Late Stage Capitalism’ subreddit, with over 624k members (ironically called ‘consumers’) document what’s wrong with capitalism and highlight some of its hypocrisy.
Below, you’ll find some spot-on, insightful, and even funny memes about capitalism from the online community. Upvote the ones you agree with, share your personal thoughts about the weaknesses of capitalism in the comment section, and let us know how you’d go about improving things, dear Pandas. What economic alternative from the many, many theoretical ones do you think is the best for everyone?
The term itself, late capitalism, is a catchall phrase that refers to all the inequalities and absurdities of contemporary capitalist society. From inequality to the continuously shrinking middle class.
Finance writer and financial independence expert Rick Orford spoke to Bored Panda about the pros and cons of capitalism, socialism, the link between greed and financial crises, as well as about inequality. Rick was very open that extremes—any extremes, whether we're talking about dieting or capitalism—will always be problematic. "And with that, there will always be folks on either side who scream that their ideas are better." You'll find our full interview with Rick, as well as with another expert from the world of finance who explained the importance of accountability, below, dear Pandas.

Jesus
i'm not even religious but this is legit, like if you believe that jesus is god's son etc, then you should actually know who the fuc* he was and more importantly what he was saying, and SURPRISE! it's not even close with what conservative americans think it is.
All they'd have to do is read the Bible on their coffee tables to find out. In my exp athiests know a hell of a lot more about jesus than churchies
Load More Replies...Then your degree is pretty useless. Just tak gay matter for example. Bible is has quite a few times condemned sodomy including Paul's letters in New Testament. The same Paul that was chosen directly by Christ. Old Testament is used by christian for a reason and saying that Jesus din't have certain opinion just because it wasn't directly spoken by him in New Testament is quite a manipulation.
Load More Replies...Jesus isn't the issue but religious doctrine which is open to interpretation, and can be used selectively. You can't reason with people that think they hold the word of God in their hands.
Paintings, but that's not the points this post is trying to make.

I always figured "words of Our Lord In Red" made it easy but still... No one seems to pay any attention to the guy.
Do we really know he was long-haired? European art depicts him this way for centuries but this might be wrong.
European art also depicts him as white when it's more likely he was dark skinned... most of religious painting were also drawn by order from the art patrons. None of those paintings don't represent reality
Load More Replies...Ok, let's get something straight about this post. Jesus was not a Revolutionary. He was the Son of GOD! He healed the lepers. He did not have a problem with making money, He had a problem with price gouging and usury (which BTW is against Jewish Law - Jesus was a Jew) Gayness wasn't mentioned again except as Jewish Law. His response as in all things was forgive the sinner. The wealthy paid the same rate of taxes as others. Just they could afford it. Jesus said pay Caesar what is owed Caesar and pay to God what is owed God. Of Course he did not ask for Co-Pays, NOBODY did. If you had money for a doctor you got treated. If you didn't you died. Jesus healed because he could and he did so for ALL. Poor and rich. As for the last statement. Please show me where a wandering minister of the Gospel or any of the Apostles were "community organizers".
Most Bible thumpers haven't even read the Bible. They just regurgitate whatever they hear at church and other conservatives who are equally ignorant.
No, your wrong. Most bible thumpers grew up learning about certain scriptures in vacation bible school in the summer, in kindergarten and highschool. Depending on which school they grew up in. The difference is some remember, and continue learning with research and others don't.

You should stop trying to ban abortion because it "kills kids", and should be trying to help those kids who had everything taken from them
Your facts are of no importance to bigots. It's not about the kids, it's about greedy old perverts wanting to control women and everyone who isn't white, rich and greedy.
Banning abortions is code for a society where women are formally second class. That's why the bitter obstruction to the right to choose has no origin in morality, just patriarchal power seeking.
It's code for a society where all humands are equal and one doen't have right to murder the other.

Remember when hitler dehumanized Jews and Gypsies? it's easier when the orange person dehumanized immigrants. They are rapist, drug dealers, sex traffickers (he said, NOT ME). According to Rick, extreme capitalism and excessive greed both thrive when a large enough part of the population is willing to take the risks. "Remember though, greed is widely accepted to be the reason for the two largest financial crises in the last century; namely 1929 and 2008. It also creates the income inequality that’s largely seen in the United States. Indeed, while everyone, in theory, has an equal opportunity to flourish, the scales seem to tip to those with the most money," he explained to Bored Panda.
However, Rick points out that capitalism in and of itself isn't dangerous to society. "It allows folks like you and me to succeed by creating or investing in businesses. Indeed, one looking to borrow money from the banks today won’t have to pay much for the loan. As such, it encourages growth. However, extreme capitalism creates a scenario where greed overtakes reason, and it risks the financial system," financial expert Rick said.
Put The Blame Where It Belongs
A citizen gets a fine for littering because he accidentally loses a tissue, a company that discharges 100,000 liters of toxic waste water into the sewer gets a hefty reprimand.
...........and the politicians divide the fine money amongst themselves!

Yes, but instead of feeling guilty and doing nothing really useful, you can fight in order those companies (those few people) do what they should. You can either do both, but not only the first thing as a puppet of big companies.

Someone Explain This To Me
At the other end of the scale, we'll find modern socialism or social democracy as it's sometimes known. The way that this system works is by taxing citizens more than capitalistic countries. "However, in return, citizens are given services such as free and (easily) accessible healthcare, child care, social welfare, etc. Conversely, highly capitalistic societies charge for these services, making it incredibly challenging for the poor," Rick noted.
Rick added that capitalism, theoretically, gives everyone the ability to flourish. And even the titans of industry that pretty much everyone knows today aren't always raking in the cash: they've also undertaken big risks and losses before making a profit.
The Economy Is Booming. Jobs Everywhere!
I thought the point of capitalism was that workers had enough money to be consumers.
in total, more jobs were lost during his presidency than during the great depression.
I'm not political but gas prices have gone up, groceries are insanely high, and literally everything else is going up. If you guys thought things were bad under Trump, you haven't seen anything yet.
Everything has been going up especially during trump and a President cannot effect gas prices look into it you'll see how that is ridiculous. We shouldn't be using gas anyway it's a fossil fuel and it's finite and killing the planet

health care is expensive - period. In Canada we have the government pay for most health care - it results in a very, very expensive system with lots and lots of bureaucrats but you have to wait over a year to get knee replacement survey (if you have a family doctor who can refer you to a surgeon and if the surgeon is allowed by the bureaucrats to place you on the very long wait list - at lot of ifs - this is personal experience). Sure the surgery is covered but your prescriptions outside of your hospital stay are not unless your employer has a drug plan (my friend had over $5,000 per month of cancer drugs). Judging by the missteps that our federal government made in securing vaccines (they contracted with CHINA for crying out loud) and now we have to scramble to get any left over from other contracts with real vaccines - Canada is so far behind for a 'first world' country it is just sad, sad, sad.
As someone with chronic medical problems who has several doctor's appointments a month, I completely disagree with you on most of that. Yes we need pharmacare but that's the only part you got right. Surgical wait times vary greatly by procedure. Orthopedic stuff is an outlier not the rule. I went from abdominal pain to diagnosis of gallstones to surgery in less than 3 months. I can't imagine what my life would like in the states since I can't work and their healthcare is tied to employment. Yes there are issues here but get the facts right.

"Think Brexit or the 2016 American Presidential election."
What helped these companies flourish is capitalism. However, just the same, capitalism is what helps ordinary people open up a business or sell their products. "And those with the best quality, price, customer service, or combination (of at least two) often do well. Increasingly, however, those who are willing to spend more at the beginning are seeing both extreme gains and losses. Famously, Amazon and Tesla, for example, have spent hundreds of millions of investor’s dollars before ever making a cent," financial independence writer Rick told Bored Panda.

Meanwhile, a banking expert and independent investor who preferred to stay anonymous due to the sensitive nature of his work, told Bored Panda that capitalism disproportionately rewards individual incentive and punishes the lack of it. Especially when compared to socialism.
"As someone acquires more capital, it—on average—becomes exponentially easier to acquire even more of it, which adds to extreme wealth inequality," he said. "It really bothers me when trillions in pension funds are wiped out only for a couple of bankers to get slapped on the wrist. Making sure that the costs of financial crises are borne by financial institutions that manufactured them (even if unintentionally), as opposed to transferring the burden to other members of society, would increase accountability."

Some of the main criticisms that academics throw capitalism’s way include the accusations that it’s exploitative, alienates people, it’s unsustainable, and deepens economic inequality.
What’s more, critics point out that capitalism essentially turns people into commodities and slowly erodes away human rights while also putting a large emphasis on expansionism and warfare. By this point, these criticisms sound almost like a stereotype of capitalism. One that everyone knows but something that’s more akin to a caricature.
Like all things in life, however, things aren’t always so black and white. There’s plenty of nuances even when talking about capitalism which people seem to have a Marmite-like relationship with (i.e. they either hate it with the fiery passion of a hundred burning suns or they think it’s the best thing since sliced bread).
Lets Ask The Real Question
This astonishes me. In the UK the current £9.35 per item ($13). Thats the maximum you'd pay for each item on your prescription. However, if you have a life dependent condition like type 1 diabetes then a) your insulin is free and b) everything else on your prescription is also free because we don't want you to get ill and make your diabetes unstable and cost the NHS more money. Free insulin/$750 insulin. Why are people so opposed to nationalised healthcare in the USA?!
because the drug companies won't make as much money!
Load More Replies...In the UK if you take prescription medicine regularly then you can get an annual NHS prepayment card for £108.10 - that covers all of your prescriptions for the whole year! America is nuts!
Because the people who work for drug and insurance companies give "gifts" to the people who make laws, encouraging them to choose in their favor. Also they run campaigns to encourage the masses that somehow going into bankruptcy is better then free healthcare.
Adopt us please. I score high on the expedited citizenship charts. I just can't afford a 500,000 house in Canada.

I never understood how the teachers in the US can be so underpaid. That's not only sad — it's also extremely wrong
Some are but if they are in a wealthy school district they make good money. The teachers at my kids school make 50000+ yearly starting out and they really only work 9 months out of the year. Probably less with all the holidays and school work shops they have. So yes teachers in poor districts make terrible but its not universal. We all would school my aunt who has a PhD in education about how she made 90000 and really only worked 1/2 a year compare to most of us that made around 50000 and have to work all year. She agreed.

Oh honey that's nothing. Go watch Dirty Money - Cartel Bank on Netflix and try not to break something.
I saw this before, still can’t believe how the government works.
While there are some theoretical alternatives to capitalism, far from every one of them is practical or even attractive. For instance, anarchism might sound attractive on paper, but actually abolishing the State and potentially even private ownership would lead to outright chaos. And it’s well worth pondering whether this sort of system could survive for long.
A more practical alternative could be a very soft form of socialism where public ownership would replace private ownership in some form and give workers greater rights and input in how the economy is planned out. However, one of the biggest fears there is that this sort of system might, in turn, evolve into communism. And history shows us that this is something that many countries who lived under such a regime would want to avoid repeating.
Anyone who’s opened up a history book knows that communism has led to the deaths of around 100 million people worldwide in a century. To put it bluntly, if history is anything to go by, it’s not a valid alternative to capitalism, no matter how exploitative the latter might be.

It's very true. My bank charged me a two dollar fee for a paper statement,, which overdrafts my account, so they charged me a 35.00 overdraft fee. Also banks here charge for a check being printed. So to print a rent check is $7.00 USD. I would find a better bank, but sadly I have one of the fairest

So what else are we left with? Economic democracy could potentially be the answer. It’s a model where firms are democratically controlled by their employees. Meanwhile, a network of public banks takes charge of investments that affect the entire society. In other words, it’s a way to extend people’s democratic rights to more areas of their lives. In a way, it’s a point between capitalism and socialism without truly being either.

I don’t agree with using prisoners as slave labourers, but I do kind of understand not wanting convicted felons to be in the emergency services as they all deal with people at their most vulnerable.
To work in the emergency services should be a choice, not mandatory. Not everyone is mentality capable to deal with it. Let them be carpenters or smth so they could use that skills after release but not force to go in literally fire, risk their lifes for 1 dol and probably have PTSD after that. After release they will not be able to use these skills in any job and will not be able to pay for the therapist. It is slavery. Not all prisoners hurt people, some of them (especially ethnic) aren't even guilty. This whole thing is wrong and excuses made by people like you are even worst

Most of the chain restaurants like Applebee's make their money by reheating frozen food, not by cooking fresh food. So they should be killed off in favor of mom and pop restaurants.
But what do you think, Pandas? Do the pros outweigh the cons when it comes to capitalism? What alternative to capitalism could work out the best? Should we aim to completely reorganize the system? Or should we focus on keeping the current one while making small changes that would improve things for everyone?
Remember: The Royal Wedding Cost £32 Million, Nearly All On Security. Last Year 71 People Burned To Death In The Grenfell Fire In London, UK Because Tory Govt Refused To Spend £5,000 On Fireproof Cladding And £200,000 On A Sprinkler System.
That's not capitalism. To be more on point I think it might have been appropriate to mention the capitalist manufacturers of the cladding that caught fire; Arconic, or the capitalist contractors that installed it; Rydon, despite the fact that it had consistently failed fire safety tests for 12 consecutive years before installation. 72 people died on 14th June 2017 and not a single person or company has faced charges. That's capitalism.
Not sure how the government supporting and propping up a monarchy has anything to do with capitalism.
Nothing to do with Capitalism, but with stupid politicians. Because of socialist politicians we had the nice fireworks at Tchernobyl, in 1986.
You know, you could actually learn about what happened at Greenfell and why it happened, or you should just take those notions of yours, shove them up your äss and go fück yourself. No point arguing with pigs, as I only get dirty and they enjoy it. Really, go fück yourself. And then fück off and keep fücking off.
Load More Replies...The thing is, the cladding was installed to improve the building for the residence. It would have saved the tax payer money. The government didn't refuse to spend £5000 as you say, as it was for to a more complex series of bad decisions. People died and those responsible should be held accountable, but no one person is to blame. I'm not a royalist, but the royal wedding made the country far more money than it cost. To put things into perspective, UK spend 18.5 billion in social housing last year. Many of the 15 million people claiming universal credit live in social housing. Where should all this money that the government should spend come from? Should that extra money come from higher rent which is already subsidised, or should it come from income tax; while those on low incomes and benefits literally pay no income tax?
Not quite true. It was not the government but local council who have no money to care for social housing. IF 32 million had not been spent of Harry and Meg's wedding she would have had another racism sword for stabbing the Queen and her dying husband with, which you Americans say are true

No, because in socialism we had useless money. We had nothing to buy! No clothes, no books, no electric devices, nothing! Spend money only for the basic food, we could buy after hours and hours of queues. We had warm water 4 hours a week, no water at all during the night, no heat... And we were a high-social academic family! THIS is socialism!
Hi there, I’m not sure you can present Romania as an accurate picture of democratic socialism. You are talking about SSR communism. As we know, that system was very corrupt and very ineffective. When we talk about democratic socialism, we’re talking more about the Nordic countries, Denmark, Norway, Sweden. These aren’t very much like the United States either, I agree with that, but I don’t think the SSR model is what anyone is talking about when we talk about the word Socialism. As an analogy, it’s similar to you saying you don’t like pizza because pepperoni tastes bad... OK then try pizza without pepperoni and see if you like it better. Same thing here. Corrupt communism under the USSR was bad. Democratic socialism in a country that is not corrupt and autocratic is good. No one is saying we want the government to control industry. That is SSR communism, but it is not democratic socialism. I hope that clarifies?
Load More Replies...Ah, I forgot to mention: in socialism there will be no more "Bored Panda" or other sites. Only the Party site. And only the party TV channel, the party newspaper etc. Private companies are forbidden - even small shoemaking workshops, barbershops, hotdog stands - you name it!
Sounds like a corrupt system not socialism and no one in the US wants socialism. We want democratic socialism where people pay their fair share in taxes so everyone lives w food a place to live and education and healthcare. Like every other democratic socialist country except for in S America. The US people are the only ones that actively fight against their own interests for the few wealthy willingly.

Literally Profits Over People
How are prisons run for profit? It’s not in their best interests to rehabilitate anyone. The only way it could morally work is if they got paid by the government for every prisoner who leaves and never reoffends.
They profit by being crooked and dishonest. For example... My husband was locked up for 3 years and they used to take him on "dry runs" all the time. The prison got $150 every time a prisoner was taken to court. They would take him to court even though he didn't have a court date, just so they could collect $150 for taking him. They also get money to feed the prisoners and yet they serve them unbelievably disgusting food. My husband told me that every time they served bologna sandwiches, the meat was green. They can buy food from commissary, but of course that's all marked up so they make money. Prisons don't care about rehabilitation, they just want money. But your idea for them to get paid if the prisoner doesn't reoffend is honestly brilliant.

We couldn't afford to send her to one of those fancy cancer clinics so she was instead treated at a community hospital and they didn't do a whole lot.
