We’ve all been there — our parents do something so embarrassing that we can’t help but cringe and hide our faces. But after an hour or two, we calm down and we realize that we may have overreacted. What’s more, we realize that we’ll probably end up with a few embarrassing stories for our kids as well. It’s just the natural order of things. But some kids can’t forgive their parents for what they’ve done, and went for public shaming online for their ‘insane’ behavior.

Behold! Here’s a list of the craziest, most jaw-droppingly, and unbelievably crazy stories kids have chosen to shame their parents online for, all found on the popular Insane Parents subreddit, which has lots of bad parenting stories. From overprotective parents tracking your location on dates to asking for money, there’s hardly a kid alive who could stand for this nonsense! So upvote your faves, share with your friends, and drop us a comment below. Oh, and scroll down to read our interviews with the head moderator of the Insane Parents subreddit, a Redditor whose mother put cameras in their bedroom, and another Reddit user whose mom asked for a huge loan!

We know you like our awesome posts about parenting and raising kids, so also be sure to check out our lists about the funniest parents ever, jerk parents who ruined their children’s lives, and the times parents shared the most messed up things their kids have done.

As an atheist, I run into a lot of atheist who think they have the expertise to ascertain that religion is "a fairy tale" and "ridiculous" (see comments below). I find this kind of callousness toward other people's deeply held beliefs no better than those religious types who claim their god is the only god and their beliefs are the only correct ones. Two sides of the same counterfeit coin, in my opinion.

I think it's time people understand that religion isn't the problem. Majority of "nut jobs" follow culture and misconceptions of what their religion actually is all about, religion isn't meant to be bad, they twist its meanings to justify their agenda, like they did on the movie Book of Eli, and that's not what's it's like, it does not mean someone who is Christian, Jewish, Muslim, etc is a good person or bad just because of their religion, people have good and bad in them, it is not religion that teaches you how to be a d**k, it is not colour that teaches you the same, it is not your possessions, your health, your age, your ethnicity, your country that defines you it's who you are as an individual not as a part of a community, people that are a******s are a******s because of the way they chose to be not because they belong to something in particular, everyone has a choice. It's easier to be a d**k but that doesn't mean it's right and it doesn't mean it's okay to justify your dickness with religion, ethnicity, age, colour, etc.

Actually if she can prove that her name on the bills were fraudulent she wont have to pay and her mother will be arresred for fraud, which it seems like here would be a good thing. Plus if the utility company did not do their due diligence in making sure the account was legit, you can sue the utility company for lots of money, I know someone who did so.

Personally, I would take my mother to small claims court and get it on record that she steals you identity...and get the money back. This will not be the last time she does it if she gets away with it now. Just like kids...Parents need a firm hand once in a while.

If the mother committed fraud it seems that her child would owe nothing on the power bill. Presumably the power is not even for her address. Of course, if she reports this mommy might go to jail.

Sadly, she probably has to press charges for the power company to take her name off the account. Many people are reluctant to press charges against their own parents, which is why dirtbag parents can get away with ruining their children's credit rating before they've even turned 18.

"Just walk it away, it is just mind over matter, isn't it?" And epilepsy is not even that. Is anyone of the stupid family using glasses? Why, if it is just "mind over matter"?

Now, some of us have heard our parents joke about how they’ll install security cameras in our rooms if we can’t behave ourselves. Well, that’s exactly what one Reddit user’s mother did. Fortunately, the internet user didn’t give in. They wrote online that they’re doing something about it: “I've got into the account she’s using for the camera and disabled playback and sound recording. I'm also trying to move the camera to a point where it doesn't actually see anything.”

“If you haven't done anything to provoke [putting up] cameras or helicopter parenting, then I'm pretty sure you can call CPS [Child Protective Services] and they will help,” the Redditor told Bored Panda some advice on what to do in situations like this one.

A college fund is not a personal savings account for you to spend whenever you feel like it. Also, on the flip side, before the entitlement generation came alone, we worked to pay for college. I worked two jobs to put myself through school. No one owes you a college education. Get a job and pay for it like the rest of us did.

My Mom Is Putting Up Cameras In My Room Now

My Mom Is Putting Up Cameras In My Room Now

The Reddit user talked to Bored Panda about the unusual situation: “My mother is out quite a bit, so maybe that was the reason she put up the camera. Maybe she felt that she needed to watch me while she was out, but she never told me the exact reason.” They also said that they have “already confronted” their mother “with the argument that what she's doing is illegal and an invasion of privacy. So now I've taken them down and plan to keep taking the cameras down if she puts up more.”

As a parent, I had cameras in my kids' rooms while they were young and would sometimes be scared to get out of bed (monsters under the bed or whatever spooked them) But they knew the cameras were there and what the purpose of them were. After they got older, the cameras were taken out and thrown away in front of the kids to make sure they knew they had privacy. Neither of my kids ever had a problem with it, but it was used also in appropriate manner. If I wanted to make sure I could check on my kid and they were getting in a lot of trouble, they know I will not hesitate to remove the doors from the hinges as an extreme and last resort punishment But they would still have the bathroom or closet for privacy. Thankfully I've never had to do this so far and hope I never will.

Anyone else here a parent? Cuz I have 4 kids. And the oldest is 40. (I have 5 grandkids too.) Being a parent is HARD. You love them and you worry about them. But you cannot cannot control them. You have to teach kids by setting a good example of how to live, not by spying on them. That shuts down open communication.

I'm a parent and yes I would have location on my kids' phones. I have one with a cell phone actually right now. He is aware of it. He also knows that I absolutely respect his privacy and would only use it in case of emergency or a real need. Yes being a parent is hard and everyone in the world will tell you how to do it. Just like anything else there are good parents and not so good ones. Having technology to do something doesn't mean you have to abuse it either. Case in point the dad that shot up the laptop. I have a gun but i would never do what he did. That's being irresponsible and abusing your authority/power/resources

parents are not just "people." they're your parents, and they have absolutely every right to know where you are at all times. you're their child. i dont understand the outrage but this must be one of the latest left wing trends. there is reasonable outrage over some of the legitimately bad parenting in this article like the mom who wasted her money on weed and xboxes and put her power bill in her daughters name, but i dont understand why you guys are attacking a parent for wanting to know where their daughter is. if i had a daughter i know i would want to know where she is too, especially with all these nasty teenage guys around these days who take advantage of young girls

How in the world did parents raise their children to be responsible adults before cell phone tracking? I was the oldest of 6 kids and I parented 4 children (now parents themselves), so I've been there on both sides. Emergencies, yeah, right. It's all about control.

My son had all the tech but my rule was I had all the passcodes until he was 18. My promise was to never use them except in an emergency or if behavior was very worrisome (never needed). We both kept up our end of the bargain and he’s living at home, in college, and we’re close. This CAN be done correctly, it’s called respect for each other.

You’d think that stories like these were rare, but that’s not entirely true. Turns out, there’s a whole community on Reddit called Insane Parents that chronicles just such events. The subreddit describes itself as “a weird place where you can post those crazy parents who post in those woo-woo anti-vax groups on facebook and do things harmful (directly and indirectly) to their children.” The group’s description also states that it’s a place for both support and laughter.

Mom Just Asked Me For 600$ When I Work A Minimum Wage Job Then Tells Me To Stop Spending?

Bored Panda talked to the head moderator of the subreddit more about the community itself — mynameisethan182. According to the Redditor, the subreddit “started off just as a one-off comment” on one thread.

“From there it kinda morphed into what it is today. This weird chaotic place where people can post about their real issues and hopefully some awareness can be raised about some of the darker sides of the internet.”

When asked what the most insane stories about parents the moderator has come across, he replied that it’s “two cases of mothers giving their children bleach,” while “the proper authorities were alerted, given the information, and did nothing to stop it.”

Odds are that this stupid stunt is both too little and too late. It won't protect your daughter's virginity--she'll do that herself if she wants to. It will likely make a big impression on your future son-in-law though. A bad impression.

“If you can — reach out to a trusted authority member (teachers, principals, professors, etc.),” mynameisethan182 gave advice to kids dealing with ‘insane’ parents. “If you can, document what is happening; however, things do get better. There is always the opportunity to get away from these people and cut them out of your lives. Whether it is joining the military at age 17 or 18 or any other available option. You can get away from it.”

You don't have a clue what you are doing to him. He has already explained that he doesn't want your oils and prefers store bought products. What you are doing is experimenting on your son. You proved you don't know what you are doing by asking the internet world what one to use. You are not respecting your son's wishes and being sneaky is stupid and immature. You are forcing this on him without his permission and should be ashamed of yourself. When he finds out what you have been doing he will resent you. Don't cry about it when it happens because you asked for it. Ridiculous parent.

“I wish more people knew about certain issues kids are seeming to face today. There are parents who seem to think it is okay to track their children — it is the most common thing I see. It causes nothing but problems and resentment,” the subreddit moderator remarked. “You may think you're doing the right thing, but you're not. You have to trust your kid and allow them to make mistakes. They cannot grow into fully actualized people without those mistakes. Your job is to guide them and to be there to pick them up when they do make those mistakes.”

Your immature reliance on star signs is a sign that you are not really ready to be a parent, but if you do believe that stuff, Aries children tend to be very sunny natured , happy, optimist, they are easygoing and very loving so I suggest you use all that horoscope c**p as a fire starter for the bbq and simply love your child as they deserve.

We can understand why kids would be ashamed of their parents when they monitor them or ask for ridiculously large loans. But why is it that kids are embarrassed by their parents in general? Well, Fatherly writes that this embarrassment usually starts appearing between 9 and 13 years of age, right when a major shift in attitude occurs. As kids become more independent and try to figure out the ‘rules of the game’ in society, they reject what their parents stand for.

Meanwhile, Empowering Parents suggests that parents shouldn’t take things personally when kids act up and should give their offspring some space grow. And, whatever happens, we can all agree that setting up cameras in someone’s room should be avoided at all costs.

I'm going to be accused of generalising, but here we go. She most likely either got pregnant and couldn't be bothered doing anything about it, and went about parenting in a similar fashion; or she got pregnant to try and trap a guy into staying with her, and it didn't work and now she has a child that didn't give her what she wanted and resents them; or she was once a reasonable person, but the oxycodone addiction has turned her into a vicious shell of her former self. I mean, there are many reasons why people have a baby when they shouldn't, I'm just taking random guesses on this one.

My parents had kids for the free child labor, too. I got grounded for an entire weekend for leaving my jacket on the stairs to take up to my room with me when I went up. It was there for about 15 minutes. From age 11, I used to come home from school to a menu I was expected to prepare for a family of 5, then do all the dishes afterwards even though I had two sisters. Plus there's be a chore list on the fridge aside from that. For five bucks a week, they got a landscaper, maid and cook and god help me if something wasn't done right. My friends used to call me Cinderella.

Ever since my kids were old enough to SPEAK, I have never, ever interfered with their right to have their hair absolutely any way they want. In fact, I have encouraged them to tell the hairdresser what they want THEMSELVES. THEY are the ones who are going to have their chosen hairstyles on their heads, and even if it becomes insane or outlandish, it'll grow back again in a matter of weeks! Why should ANY parent fight with their kids over something as insignificant as a bit of hair?? And, for the record: My kids have usually chosen quite "normal" hairstyles, since they feel no need to provoke their parents, and since they themselves feel in control of their own appearance.

You at least know that it is abuse and that it won't get better. Can you cut her out of your life? I highly recommend the book Emotional Blackmail: When the People in Your Life Use Fear, Obligation, and Guilt to Manipulate You, by Susan Forward. You might have to act in spite of those 3 feelings. Crappy feelings over dumping someone does get better. Your mother won't.

I agree, and if these are the set rules and pricing structure, then the OP needs to do their chores or negotiate a different deal if her parents are giving her too much. However, feeding a pet and sweeping a room before you leave in the morning doesn't sound like slave labor-level evil to me.

I sincerely hope that she finds a nice community that accepts her as she is - there are a lot of reform and conservative congregations decidedly reaching out to LGTBQ folk, even marriage is a non-issue. Being jewish AND gay is so, so possible.

I'm just glad they took her to the emergency room, even if eventually. Mostly bc there have been many children who have died bc the parents staunchly refused to the point of their kid dying to get medical help. Hopefully the teen will be allowed to continue to make her own choices in life and things will get better. Maybe even the parents loosening up. These parents don't sound that bad, misguided definitely.

I can't tell if they are letting the daugther have her way, not necessarily agreeing with her beliefs, but were happy to bring her to the hospital when she asked for it, or if they themselves hold those beliefs. My mom told me to "stop pretending" and "stop having an existential crisis at such a young age" when I told her I was struggling with depression. I will never forgive her for making me feel worse when she should've made me feel better. Never told her about my anxiety attacks either. Once she saw me having an attack and just kept saying "what's wrong" in a very authoritarian tone. I didn't even want to tell her.

ME TOO. I told my parents I was depressed, they told me "all teenagers get depressed, it's normal so deal with it" (and that's not paraphrased, they said EXACTLY that) Luckily when I did have anxiety attacks as well (when I was younger), they listened to me and I got a therapist. It's interesting the hypocrisy that they care about one thing but not the other.

My mom threatened to cut off my therapy sessions and replace them with talkin to some lady (who i do know but don't trust with personal info) from church after she FORCED me to come out and cause I "wasn't getting better" That was months ago, I still go to therapy cause I f****n let her know that if she did that, there'd be HELL to pay. I was gonna f**k up the household for real if that happened....

Depends where they live, we don’t have rabies in Australia so only a tetanus would be needed and possibly a dose of antibiotics due to high risks of infection.

Ah that poor kid. I can totally relate to that - in my teenage years I often went for walks at night, because it was just such a nice time, streets deserted, all alone, everything illuminated by the yellowish streetlamp glow or even the full moon ...my goth self LIVED for those moments. (I lived in a German small town and it was generally safe, ofc this wouldn't be possible everywhere).

My Mum, nearing her 70s, is a good Christian lady - she goes to church every Sunday, is a member of the church’s leadership team, produces the local church group’s newsletter, and volunteers with their elder care program. And people always know when she is arriving for any event because of the Iron Maiden / Black Sabbath / miscellaneous loud rock music booming from her car stereo. (Yes, my Mum’s pretty cool!)

First, I am not anti-vax (but I do promote a better vaccination schedule). However, the one point to support anti-vax parents that I cannot over look is: They pay to vaccinate their kids (either by tax or insurance etc), they assume the ENTIRE risk, they are responsible for ensuring their kid is healthy and well cared for. Vaccines are known to have negative side effects in a small percentage of patients, sometimes up to and including death and/or permanent damage. It is the parent who essentially did this to their kids, forced by law and paid for by themselves, only to watch their child suffer and/or die as a result. This is rare, but a parent is forced into deciding which is riskier, vaccines or no, and some choose no. This is the only point that nobody has been able to convince me otherwise on, most choose vaccines...but no matter the result the parent (and child) pays the price, either success or failure.

    Uwe Theiss
    Community Member
6 years ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

Did you fail at basic math L McN? At most vaccinations the chance to get serious symptoms including death by the illness is much higher then the risk of side effects from the vaccination. This is true for all childhood diseases. It is like don't using a seatbelt because there was this one case where someone fell down a cliff cause he couldn't exit his car because of the seatbelt. Yeah, a seatbelt also can kill you. But in the majority of all cases it saves life and if you choose to not buckle up your child in a car, then you are stupid and nothing else. Same with vaccination!

I would like to know how you can hide it? I was at work once serving a customer when I had a sudden urge to vomit. I couldn’t hold it in and ended up throwing up in front of the customer. I was so embarrassed. I ended up going home in which I had to catch a train, fortunately the train was almost empty so I got to lay down to help with the nausea, I ended up having a tummy bug. Another time at work I was running to the toilet to vomit (I was pregnant) but I just got through the locker room door when I power chucked everywhere.

I need more info to decide if this is an evil mom or a mom trying to teach the kid a good work ethic. If the mom knows the daughter throws up due to nerves and that she's not actually sick, then this is a perfectly logical response. It's also more logical if the OP has already been let go from other jobs due to an inability to be on time or be there at all.

Sure, maybe ONE person needs a phone to call someone if there's an emergency, but still. (I absolutely don't agree with the parent in this situation at ALL, but the kid should actually think this through more)

To be fair, I thought my son was autistic for a while. BUT, unlike this person, I had him tested. It turns out that there is a myriad of other disorders that results in a similar reaction as some autistic types, but it is not autism itself. Knowing the exact issues has helped greatly in teaching him, AND US, on how to overcome the hurdles that he has in his way. It isn't easy by any means, but simply knowing the truth has made leaps and bounds of difference!

Agreed: everyone needs their privacy. Agreed: sometimes a temporary violation of that privacy is needed when loss of life, limb, or eyesight are a legitimate fear (IE: suicidal child, murderer/rapist is known to be in the area and child is on a date, etc). Agreed: ALL of this should be discussed with the child ahead of time, not just demanded. But, more importantly, as long as I pay for the service then it is understood that I will use tools to ensure your safety WHEN NEEDED (not just because). If that bothers you, then go pay for your own plan.

Okay, but to be fair, this is over two days, and the kid could be 16 or 17. The parent may want to know their kid isn't being kidnapped.

She is not asking for a sign of life or anything, she is asking about enabling a tracking device. She could have asked if she was fine in a normal manner, like normal people do.

That would be a good sentiment for NORMAL parents... but some parents, the parents in this post, would take ANYTHING to mean their child is breaking a rule or disrespecting them

Whilst it is very common for teenagers to confuse being bisexual to being bicurious, the difference is usually bisexuals have these feelings from a young age whilst sexually curious is usually around teen years (puberty).

I think it's probably a good thing to not label yourself too early and just let yourself grow up before you declare. Hormones and brains are absolutely insane during puberty, sure, you may be bi, or you may just be at a crazy time in your life where you don't know what the heck you are.

Wait: "You give your animals raw food" ?!?! Are they not aware that animals have not mastered fire, and that so far only primates and humans are known to cook their food? And primates only do so when a heat source is already available, they don't create it. Making this entirely natural to eat raw food. And, all over a tattoo?

So I had an inlaw relative. He was obsessed with his 16 yo daughter and possible dating. She was not allowed. He would ground her- haunt her - all the crazy s**t we are reading here.. Fast forward about 6 months. SWAT team shows up at my door- we live about 300 miles away from this guy OK? - So cops are swarming at my door asking where is so and so- uh, no clue- what's going on? So I invited them in- very polite folks btw. I am not at all feeling threatened despite two dudes across the street with rifles and s**t. They came in after I invited them, took them around the house so they saw I literally had no clue- they don't tell me anything atm. They leave. Next day or soon after, I forget, turns out this pos was wanted for raping his daughter and her friend- it was more like molesting than rape because she was in on it- but what decisions can a child that age really make and who knows how long it had been happening. SOB committed suicide by cop in his home town later that week -

YES. EVERY time I hyperventilate (not very often, around 10 times in my whole life), my parents just continue yelling at me as if that's going to calm me down, and when I don't calm down they tell me "stop faking it". Like excuse you?! Do you think I WANT to hyperventilate? Do you think I'm doing this for sympathy?? I'm not even GETTING sympathy for it so how would, hypothetically, purposefully hyperventilating help me in any way??

Freshman too young to drink, 3.5 is maybe a little high. Jules are bad and if they are christian and want to maintain that. In addition we dont know the kids history for us to assume this is over the top. Trust is earned.

if this is college, the parents have unrealistic expectation for one. I understand the GPA to get funds from mom and dad (maybe even to some degree a loan, although that is a bit iffy). Otherwise an adult is free to be an adult.

Indeed but it has been Number One argument for a lot of parents to shut children up. "As long as your sticking your feet under my table, you'll do as I say. " "I'm paying for everything around her so you pay me respect." "Do as I say or I'll stop paying for....."

If the parent is "paying" for the phone then they have the right to block it, look at the contents and do as they please with the phone. Just like if you carry a company phone for work. They are allowed to restrict it however they seem fit.

Actually, no, they do not have the right to do that. Within reason, kids deserve their privacy. Doing this just ensures that you will never have a good relationship with your children, and they will leave home as soon as humanely possible.

This sounds a bit self-fulfilling. I understand depression, but if you were able to work (paychecks), then you should have also been able to attend school and seminary. You were given a set of rules (late is $5, skip is $10) and you chose to ignore them and paid the price. It's basic cause and effect.

Let them report you to the police, the police won’t do anything unless you have been missing for a certain amount of time. If the police do end up “looking” for you, tell them exactly why they reported you missing. Then the police can have a stern warning to your parents about wasting police officers time and resources.

That you have to wait a certain amount of time isn't true. If you have good reason to believe someone is missing call the police immediately. Of course they'll ask you questions to determine if it's actually a police case, questions that I don't think these parents are going to be able to answer very well.

Ok, I'm going to step out here and I know a lot of people with get mad at this. I am Christian, and a strong believer. It is my life not just a faith. BUT, even the bible states to give with a cheerful heart. Meaning, if you are FORCED to donate time, money, effort, ANYTHING then it is useless. You volunteer that time gladly, willingly, and of your own free will without any reservation. There is no negative for not doing so other than you may regret being so busy later (and...maybe not). There is only judgement shown here for one person being LOGICALLY unable or unwilling to donate their time. Acknowledge this and move on, a guilt trip like this person did is very un-christian like behavior.

It sounds like the OP wouldn't give a straight response, said they didn't have money for a bus ticket, then only brought up active duty when they posted this because it made them sound blameless. It feels manipulative.

I'm confused. Did the kid not come home for Christmas because she had duty? Or because she couldn't afford a bus ticket? Both are valid excuses, but I can understand the mother's frustration if she kept getting different answers about why her daughter wasn't going to be home for the holidays. I think she's being a little harsh, but we also don't know the history of behavior here either.
