As an atheist, I run into a lot of atheist who think they have the expertise to ascertain that religion is "a fairy tale" and "ridiculous" (see comments below). I find this kind of callousness toward other people's deeply held beliefs no better than those religious types who claim their god is the only god and their beliefs are the only correct ones. Two sides of the same counterfeit coin, in my opinion.

I think it's time people understand that religion isn't the problem. Majority of "nut jobs" follow culture and misconceptions of what their religion actually is all about, religion isn't meant to be bad, they twist its meanings to justify their agenda, like they did on the movie Book of Eli, and that's not what's it's like, it does not mean someone who is Christian, Jewish, Muslim, etc is a good person or bad just because of their religion, people have good and bad in them, it is not religion that teaches you how to be a d**k, it is not colour that teaches you the same, it is not your possessions, your health, your age, your ethnicity, your country that defines you it's who you are as an individual not as a part of a community, people that are a******s are a******s because of the way they chose to be not because they belong to something in particular, everyone has a choice. It's easier to be a d**k but that doesn't mean it's right and it doesn't mean it's okay to justify your dickness with religion, ethnicity, age, colour, etc.

Actually if she can prove that her name on the bills were fraudulent she wont have to pay and her mother will be arresred for fraud, which it seems like here would be a good thing. Plus if the utility company did not do their due diligence in making sure the account was legit, you can sue the utility company for lots of money, I know someone who did so.

Personally, I would take my mother to small claims court and get it on record that she steals you identity...and get the money back. This will not be the last time she does it if she gets away with it now. Just like kids...Parents need a firm hand once in a while.

Sadly, she probably has to press charges for the power company to take her name off the account. Many people are reluctant to press charges against their own parents, which is why dirtbag parents can get away with ruining their children's credit rating before they've even turned 18.

My ex took out a credit card in our daughters name in order to take her on a cruise. Daughter was p.o.'d and it took a month to get the card company to believe it was not her. Now her mother is trying to guilt her into talking to her. Just crazy.

Now, some of us have heard our parents joke about how they’ll install security cameras in our rooms if we can’t behave ourselves. Well, that’s exactly what one Reddit user’s mother did. Fortunately, the internet user didn’t give in. They wrote online that they’re doing something about it: “I've got into the account she’s using for the camera and disabled playback and sound recording. I'm also trying to move the camera to a point where it doesn't actually see anything.”
“If you haven't done anything to provoke [putting up] cameras or helicopter parenting, then I'm pretty sure you can call CPS [Child Protective Services] and they will help,” the Redditor told Bored Panda some advice on what to do in situations like this one.

as someone whose parents took the money i was saving for college to pay of irresponsible credit card debt, please don't do this unless it's necessary for your family to survive (needed for food/shelter). It made college, a dream i've had since i was very young, expensive, stressful, and terrifying. i worked 3 jobs through college and still had to take out huge loans at a very high interest rate.

A college fund is not a personal savings account for you to spend whenever you feel like it. Also, on the flip side, before the entitlement generation came alone, we worked to pay for college. I worked two jobs to put myself through school. No one owes you a college education. Get a job and pay for it like the rest of us did.

My Mom Is Putting Up Cameras In My Room Now
The Reddit user talked to Bored Panda about the unusual situation: “My mother is out quite a bit, so maybe that was the reason she put up the camera. Maybe she felt that she needed to watch me while she was out, but she never told me the exact reason.” They also said that they have “already confronted” their mother “with the argument that what she's doing is illegal and an invasion of privacy. So now I've taken them down and plan to keep taking the cameras down if she puts up more.”

For everyone saying that the parents may have a reason, I am 13 and have had cams in my room forever. I've never done anything even remotely bad enough to catalyst this invasion. She also gets all my texts through email, gets all my emails, and has such insane distrust for me that she won't even let me have Wikipedia.

As a parent, I had cameras in my kids' rooms while they were young and would sometimes be scared to get out of bed (monsters under the bed or whatever spooked them) But they knew the cameras were there and what the purpose of them were. After they got older, the cameras were taken out and thrown away in front of the kids to make sure they knew they had privacy. Neither of my kids ever had a problem with it, but it was used also in appropriate manner. If I wanted to make sure I could check on my kid and they were getting in a lot of trouble, they know I will not hesitate to remove the doors from the hinges as an extreme and last resort punishment But they would still have the bathroom or closet for privacy. Thankfully I've never had to do this so far and hope I never will.

I had an iPod Touch and used it just like a cellphone, and it worked great for me. You can make video calls on it. As long as you have WiFi, that is.

Anyone else here a parent? Cuz I have 4 kids. And the oldest is 40. (I have 5 grandkids too.) Being a parent is HARD. You love them and you worry about them. But you cannot cannot control them. You have to teach kids by setting a good example of how to live, not by spying on them. That shuts down open communication.

I'm a parent and yes I would have location on my kids' phones. I have one with a cell phone actually right now. He is aware of it. He also knows that I absolutely respect his privacy and would only use it in case of emergency or a real need. Yes being a parent is hard and everyone in the world will tell you how to do it. Just like anything else there are good parents and not so good ones. Having technology to do something doesn't mean you have to abuse it either. Case in point the dad that shot up the laptop. I have a gun but i would never do what he did. That's being irresponsible and abusing your authority/power/resources

My son had all the tech but my rule was I had all the passcodes until he was 18. My promise was to never use them except in an emergency or if behavior was very worrisome (never needed). We both kept up our end of the bargain and he’s living at home, in college, and we’re close. This CAN be done correctly, it’s called respect for each other.

My daughter would give me her passwords on occasion, even when changed. She knew I would never go into her accounts unless I had a reason to. She was not perfect, but she never gave me a reason to go through her things, in her room or online. Got to show respect to get respect. She is now 21 and considers me her best friend.

You’d think that stories like these were rare, but that’s not entirely true. Turns out, there’s a whole community on Reddit called Insane Parents that chronicles just such events. The subreddit describes itself as “a weird place where you can post those crazy parents who post in those woo-woo anti-vax groups on facebook and do things harmful (directly and indirectly) to their children.” The group’s description also states that it’s a place for both support and laughter.

Ah reminds me of the time my parents found out that I was talking to family friend's son and lost their s**t. They confiscated my phone and threatened to disown me and moved me to an all girls school. They also severely scolded me for catching up with a guy friend from kindergarten at a wedding party. They said it was "dishonorable". I never had the guts to talk to guys in front of them again, that is until I moved to another state

CHIEFXx told Bored Panda that when their mother asked them for money, “before seeing the amount i was ready to give it, yet 600 dollars is a lot of [effing] money. So i was confused after seeing all that money expected from me.”

Bored Panda talked to the head moderator of the subreddit more about the community itself — mynameisethan182. According to the Redditor, the subreddit “started off just as a one-off comment” on one thread.
“From there it kinda morphed into what it is today. This weird chaotic place where people can post about their real issues and hopefully some awareness can be raised about some of the darker sides of the internet.”
When asked what the most insane stories about parents the moderator has come across, he replied that it’s “two cases of mothers giving their children bleach,” while “the proper authorities were alerted, given the information, and did nothing to stop it.”

I had this kind of controling, violating parent; it was just one form of the abuse she inflicted. It was suffocating and caused anxiety and depression that I still deal with today. I ended up not speaking to her for the last 21 years of her life.

My parents had kids for the free child labor, too. I got grounded for an entire weekend for leaving my jacket on the stairs to take up to my room with me when I went up. It was there for about 15 minutes. From age 11, I used to come home from school to a menu I was expected to prepare for a family of 5, then do all the dishes afterwards even though I had two sisters. Plus there's be a chore list on the fridge aside from that. For five bucks a week, they got a landscaper, maid and cook and god help me if something wasn't done right. My friends used to call me Cinderella.

Ever since my kids were old enough to SPEAK, I have never, ever interfered with their right to have their hair absolutely any way they want. In fact, I have encouraged them to tell the hairdresser what they want THEMSELVES. THEY are the ones who are going to have their chosen hairstyles on their heads, and even if it becomes insane or outlandish, it'll grow back again in a matter of weeks! Why should ANY parent fight with their kids over something as insignificant as a bit of hair?? And, for the record: My kids have usually chosen quite "normal" hairstyles, since they feel no need to provoke their parents, and since they themselves feel in control of their own appearance.

His son is trying to find ways to collect more social security than he does already, so he constantly fakes issues to get more money. He's now been doing this for more than 3 years. I was in the ER with severe abdominal pains. Gallbladder filled with stones. My father recognized the surgeon as a classmate from his undergraduate days. I had to interrupt their conversation, remind them that I was in a lot of pain, and I couldn't get any painkillers because I was about to be sedated for surgery. I'm just glad they took her to the emergency room, even if eventually. Mostly bc there have been many children who have died bc the parents staunchly refused to the point of their kid dying to get medical help. My mom told me to "stop pretending" and "stop having an existential crisis at such a young age" when I told her I was struggling with depression. I will never forgive her for making me feel worse when she should've made me feel better. Never told her about my anxiety attacks either. Once she saw me having an attack and just kept saying "what's wrong" in a very authoritarian tone. I didn't even want to tell her.

I told my parents I was depressed, they told me "all teenagers get depressed, it's normal so deal with it" (and that's not paraphrased, they said EXACTLY that) Luckily when I did have anxiety attacks as well (when I was younger), they listened to me and I got a therapist. It's interesting the hypocrisy that they care about one thing but not the other.

When I told my mom that I was struggling with depression and feeling suicidle, cutting myself and OD. I told her I’d like to see a therapist and what was her response? No, they’d only medicate you and it’s too pricy. A counselor? No. I can relate to this so much it hurt.

My mom threatened to cut off my therapy sessions and replace them with talkin to some lady (who i do know but don't trust with personal info) from church after she FORCED me to come out and cause I "wasn't getting better" That was months ago, I still go to therapy cause I f****n let her know that if she did that, there'd be HELL to pay. I was gonna f**k up the household for real if that happened....

I can totally relate to that - in my teenage years I often went for walks at night, because it was just such a nice time, streets deserted, all alone, everything illuminated by the yellowish streetlamp glow or even the full moon ...my goth self LIVED for those moments. Did you fail at basic math L McN? At most vaccinations the chance to get serious symptoms including death by the illness is much higher then the risk of side effects from the vaccination. This is true for all childhood diseases. It is like don't using a seatbelt because there was this one case where someone fell down a cliff cause he couldn't exit his car because of the seatbelt. Yeah, a seatbelt also can kill you. But in the majority of all cases it saves life and if you choose to not buckle up your child in a car, then you are stupid and nothing else. Same with vaccination!

I would like to know how you can hide it? I was at work once serving a customer when I had a sudden urge to vomit. I couldn’t hold it in and ended up throwing up in front of the customer. I was so embarrassed. I ended up going home in which I had to catch a train, fortunately the train was almost empty so I got to lay down to help with the nausea, I ended up having a tummy bug. Another time at work I was running to the toilet to vomit (I was pregnant) but I just got through the locker room door when I power chucked everywhere.

I need more info to decide if this is an evil mom or a mom trying to teach the kid a good work ethic. If the mom knows the daughter throws up due to nerves and that she's not actually sick, then this is a perfectly logical response. It's also more logical if the OP has already been let go from other jobs due to an inability to be on time or be there at all.

To be fair, I thought my son was autistic for a while. BUT, unlike this person, I had him tested. It turns out that there is a myriad of other disorders that results in a similar reaction as some autistic types, but it is not autism itself. Knowing the exact issues has helped greatly in teaching him, AND US, on how to overcome the hurdles that he has in his way. It isn't easy by any means, but simply knowing the truth has made leaps and bounds of difference!

Agreed: everyone needs their privacy. Agreed: sometimes a temporary violation of that privacy is needed when loss of life, limb, or eyesight are a legitimate fear (IE: suicidal child, murderer/rapist is known to be in the area and child is on a date, etc). Agreed: ALL of this should be discussed with the child ahead of time, not just demanded. But, more importantly, as long as I pay for the service then it is understood that I will use tools to ensure your safety WHEN NEEDED (not just because). If that bothers you, then go pay for your own plan.

So I had an inlaw relative. He was obsessed with his 16 yo daughter and possible dating. She was not allowed. He would ground her- haunt her - all the crazy s**t we are reading here.. Fast forward about 6 months. SWAT team shows up at my door- we live about 300 miles away from this guy OK? - So cops are swarming at my door asking where is so and so- uh, no clue- what's going on? So I invited them in- very polite folks btw. I am not at all feeling threatened despite two dudes across the street with rifles and s**t. They came in after I invited them, took them around the house so they saw I literally had no clue- they don't tell me anything atm. They leave. Next day or soon after, I forget, turns out this pos was wanted for raping his daughter and her friend- it was more like molesting than rape because she was in on it- but what decisions can a child that age really make and who knows how long it had been happening. SOB committed suicide by cop in his home town later that week -

Let them report you to the police, the police won’t do anything unless you have been missing for a certain amount of time. If the police do end up “looking” for you, tell them exactly why they reported you missing. Then the police can have a stern warning to your parents about wasting police officers time and resources.

That you have to wait a certain amount of time isn't true. If you have good reason to believe someone is missing call the police immediately. Of course they'll ask you questions to determine if it's actually a police case, questions that I don't think these parents are going to be able to answer very well.

Ok, I'm going to step out here and I know a lot of people with get mad at this. I am Christian, and a strong believer. It is my life not just a faith. BUT, even the bible states to give with a cheerful heart. Meaning, if you are FORCED to donate time, money, effort, ANYTHING then it is useless. You volunteer that time gladly, willingly, and of your own free will without any reservation. There is no negative for not doing so other than you may regret being so busy later (and...maybe not). There is only judgement shown here for one person being LOGICALLY unable or unwilling to donate their time. Acknowledge this and move on, a guilt trip like this person did is very un-christian like behavior.

Ah well, finally one that I don't find as bad as the others. They are kind of exchanging arguments and her request is not THAT unreasonable if she is still attached to the church. Of course she has all right to refuse, but the request is not that far out there.

I am with the Kid. If I had to volunteer my time for everything a Place of worship did I would be asking for money back. Only thing any religion did for me was to show I am right on being an Atheist.

Prior service here. 1) the pay is less than minimum wage. So no, she couldn't afford a dang ticket! 2) When you have duty, that is it...you have duty. There is no getting out of it, you go to jail if you do not show up. So...this parent needs to wake up.

I'm confused. Did the kid not come home for Christmas because she had duty? Or because she couldn't afford a bus ticket? Both are valid excuses, but I can understand the mother's frustration if she kept getting different answers about why her daughter wasn't going to be home for the holidays. I think she's being a little harsh, but we also don't know the history of behavior here either.

This is why I hate the whole "you should always respect/love your parents" idea. No. Some parents are complete a******s, there's nothing wrong with realizing that and acting accordingly. The basic process of creating a child really isn't that complicated to be considered this highly valued (the giving birth part sure but not that much). The taking care of for years is.

I completely agree. I never understood why the ten commandment never specified the parent honor thy children as well. Of course there's several things left out of them that are equally bothersome, but that's another conversation entirely.

My parents have a tendency to be pretty toxic. I'm 33 and my stepdad calls me in the middle of my work shifts, leaves me these long drawn out messages about why he's such a bad parent (he sexually abused me as a kid so I don't really communicate anymore) and how sorry he is and cries and all that... my history with the man... all that makes me anxious to be around him... yet I'm ungrateful at the same time. And if I don't answer, I hate him. Well, buddy, I kind of do

If there is anyone here, who is living with this kind of parental / adult behaviour, please know that this is THEIR F****D UP S**T!!!!!!!! Yes, you have to deal with it... but it is 1000000% their f****d up s**t. Having grown up (& successfully escaped) from this insanity, this is how I did it: saved money as soon as I could. Whether it be selling stuff, or working, saving pocket money / gift money (if ever it existed). I was too young to have my own private bank account, and no adult believed the hell I was going through. So, I HID THE MONEY (imagination can be a great resource). In the down-times (lunch time at school / when parents were out etc), I did research re: getting my own place. Turned 18. Got a job. Got a small, s****y s****y flat, within walking distance of my restaurant job.... and left with the basics. You only need eg jeans, 3-5 t-shirts, coat, sneakers, work shoes & work clothes (2 sets will allow you to survive). Furniture was a sleeping bag + floor.

.... PART 2.... you do NOT need a lot of furniture. You simply need to be warm, and able to eat (saucepan, frypan, bowl, plate, fork, knife, spoon, cutting board, cutting knife). THIS will enable you to GET OUT and create some real balance in your world. From there, I continued saving as much as possible (with a few hard life-lessons in there). With brilliant things like the internet etc, research, information, finding work, and selling stuff, is sooooo much easier than it was when I was in that situation. I wish you all the best. I could add to this, my mom stole my information and signed my up for 5 credit cards when I told her to cancel them all she maxed them out instead, putting me in debt and making my credit score so low I couldn't get approved to finance a 500 dollar mattress

report them for identity theft. It's punishable by law. Once established, (depending on your laws), it is often possible for that debt to then be placed on them, and removed from your record. This is not the behaviour of a mother. This is the behaviour of an imbalance, narcissistic, ARSEHOLE. Your mother's behaviour is that of a selfish, (insert a slew of profanities), and is deserving of NO SYMPATHY. There is zero excuse for the abuse she inflicted on you. None.

it's hard to believe when you've never experienced it (and you are phenominally lucky for that!). Trust me though, as a kid who grew up in this c**p.... it absolutely happens. Far too often, unfortunately. For those in it, they often don't realise there's a positive alternative, because this insanity *IS* their normal... and your world without this insanity, is something they don't believe is real. It took me years of being out of home, to realise just how horrific my childhood was, because I had NO IDEA that there was even an alternative.

I can't stand when people say you can't cut off your family.. you can and should when they are toxic to you. I don't have a relationship with any relatives but my mom and I barely speak to her because all she wants to talk about are my horrible siblings. Cut them out and form your own family.
