Birds are warmblooded animals, which means that they maintain their body temperature independent of the environment. However, their often tiny size forces them to adapt, and even work together, when it gets cold outside. New Zealand Birds describes this behavior in one species, the fantail:
“They huddle together in such roosts for warmth, the most dominant birds taking the center positions, forcing the immature and more subordinate to the edges where they are at the mercy of the elements.”

I think this is my favorite & perhaps because the cutie pie on the left reminds me of my "Berta" who I later found out (5yrs later) that I had to change her name to "Bert" because she was a He!! LOL

Too sad they are in jail. Set them free where they belong. :( It bothers me to see birds in cages.

Since its illegal to trap African Grey parrots, these were "bred". If "set free", they would die, as they have no experience feeding themselves or protecting themselves from predators. I've owned parrots over 15 years. Mine live in unlocked cages and spend half the day outside their cage. Don't judge by one photo... A pet bird's cage is it's safe place. They feel secure there.
