Perspective changes everything. Take a particular object, put it in a specific time and place, and you see how it differs compared with an almost identical one. And since such an experiment would probably be slightly too elaborate for real life, Bored Panda has compiled this entertaining collection of the most surprising comparisons.
From comparing a chimpanzee fingertip with a human fingertip to photos of a man before and after walking across China for the whole year, these are side-by-side shots that show the weird and the wonderful side of the world we live in. So pull your chair closer, get your popcorn ready and tune in for the list that puts a spin on the good old “spot the difference” game.
After you’re done, make sure to check out our previous posts with incredible comparisons here, here, and here.

Perspective is a beautiful power to subject things to. Not only do we start seeing their beauty, as in the cases of these comparisons, it can also make us feel better. You see, while putting things in perspective, we are selecting a particular mode of seeing them, and it doesn't just feel like it, our brain actually does it.
Scientists say that changing perspective is a healthy exercise if we want to be empathetic, rational and compassionate. However, changing perspective is not merely about seeing things from the point of view of another. It's just as much about gaining perspective.

Changing one’s perspective has to do with the point of view in which you stand. By stepping outside of our usual perspectives, it can become possible to frame arguments in ways that motivate others instead of leaving them feeling rejected, for example. In a similar way, you can start seeing things not as simply black or white, good or bad, but in a more complex light. This will get us out of the loop of negativity, prejudice and other negative emotions.

6 Years Ago Today I Had A Surgery To Straighten Up My Spine, This Is The Before/After Result. I Gained 5cm With The Process
Its a long one. The recovery is the worst, for me it was a week in the hospital, two months of nothing and a year of taking it "slow" and not lifting more than 20 pounds, witch included my dog at the time.
Load More Replies...Reminds me of my friend who had/has scoliosis and had surgery in October. Now we make jokes about her triggering metal detectors.
I had that done inn 1985. I was the first one done in the u.s.a. with the Harrington rods. You go! You are one tough cookie!!
I have had 2 10hour operations a year apart putting Harrington rods in my spine. I started out over 5'7' and now, 27 years later, I am 5', and can't walk upright. But...I am still alive.

Oh, imma need to find out more about that. Thx for the link!
Load More Replies...I'm glad for you. I lost 3.5 inches and am now fused spine to pelvis 90 degrees. I hurt every day even worse than pre 2 surgeries. But truly, I'm so glad this worked for you. It gives me hope, really and truly. Hugs.
Looks like my spine. I gained almost 2 inches in height from beginning to end. Nine year process for me. You're looking good!
A friend of my daughters suffers scoliosis and suffers a lot of pain regularly. I wish they could do this for him but his is steadily getting worse instead of better. Bless him
how does ur spine decide hey you know what? ima CURVE like how did he do dat????
My daughter had a similar operation, but for congenital curvatures both sideways and forward. The surgery itself was about 8 hours, but the recovery was a full six months of wearing a body cast, and then another 6 months of a full torso brace. But her lovely doctor made it a clamshell brace so she could take it off, put her bathing suit on, and then put it on to go swimming. This was Texas in the summertime, and she *lived* in the pool all summer, obviously. That surgery was years ago, and although she still has some curves, they are a LOT less than original, and she's never needed any further work done.
All of us w/ non-scoliotic spines should take a moment right now to express gratitude for their healthy spines.
The pain is horrendous. There were days once my husband went to work that i would sit and scream in pain until i was hoarse. There wasn't enough medicine to take to stop it at times. My neck degenerated also and I've had three surgeries there and my muscles are still sore and spasm a lot. Back pain is something that is subjective as others can't see it. Even with severe scoliosis! Yet we are judged as medication seeking malingerers. My surgeon told me, the damage in my lower back was awful and he also said he did and extra level repair as it would need it in a few years anyways. My pain management doc read about the damage on the report and now at least i don't get accused of med seeking behavior! But between PT and exercise, i am making it work. Soon I will be off Most of my pain meds. I am fused at cervical 3,4,5,6 and lumbar 2,3,4,5. I also will deal with numbness below the knees on both legs for the rest of my life and numbness and tingling in both my hands forever.
Load More Replies...I have servere scoliosis. Terrified of this surgery!! Was told that was my only option back in 8th grade. I graduated High school 19 years ago!
Congratulations. You are inspiration and good luck on your road to recovery. I imagine how painful this is.
I'm just about to have the same operation, but my spine isn't that bad.
I know how you feel, i went through this very same surgery for scoliosis. 6 years ago my spine was so warped it looked like a zig zag.. now i have titanium rods and screws, my spine is almost completely straight. It may have been hard but we got through it!
A year recovery for me. And surgeon said never ever again lift anything more than a 2litre container of milk...2kgs!
Um first how the frick did it get like that in the first place??
Oh my, you poor thing, wonder how long for recovery, hope you are doing well !!!
When I had my hip replaced in 2008 my surgeon asked when I'd had back/disk surgery. Um, never. Apparently, on of the times my back "went out" it was a disk collapsing. I am literally 3/8 of an inch shorter than I used to be.
I had lower back surgery in 2019 to fix degenerated spine there. Over 10 years i lost 2 inches and gained a 20% curvature of the spine. Surgery was 8 or so hours and recovery a year. But the pain is gone and i gained at least 1 1/2 inches back and on a good day the 2 inches i lost. Good for you! I am glad its so much better!
If your spine is curved sideways and you're willing to endure pain and weakness and physical therapy, then yes. Source: I had severe scoliosis and a surgery to correct my spine in 2010. Grew 5cms too lol
