The late, great Petrushka was the kitty love of my life. He developed diabetes when he was ten, somehow outgrew it two years later and died at home when he was 16. He’s been gone longer than he was alive but I still miss him.

and your cat will tailor their vocalizations to fit you. They'll prefer using the ones that can most easily manipulate you into doing what they want. My 15 year old cat likes to stand in the kitchen and scream at full volume since this always gets a quick response.

"The Saluki is the oldest dog breed." This is a disputed thing. They are one of the oldest but they may or may not be the oldest. Ibizans, Pharaoh Hounds, Basenjis, Afghan Hounds, Akitas, Samoyeds, and several other northern spitz dogs are probably older than the Saluki. Yes I know the Guinness book of world records claims this but it's not 100% fact.

Well... a human can also beat a cheetah in a long-distance race; definitely in a maraton but probably already in the 10K. So replace that fact with these: 1/ Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend and 2/ Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.

#3 totally makes sense when you consider how birds communicate with each other. Many, many years ago I read somewhere that a man working on decoding parrot language of one specific species and learned that the first sound for each individual was different but the next sound was uniformly the same, which he hypothesized meant that the first sound was the bird’s “name” and then the second sound was a greeting.

Casey’s videos are really popular on TikTok and there are quite a few that have over a million views. The videos are short and concentrated, giving facts that don’t go too in depth, but are nevertheless interesting.

The content creator was always curious about the world and he told us, “I have always been the person at the dinner table to talk about trivia I learned earlier that day.” Also, he loves making videos, so it was just a matter of time until Casey combined his two interests and the popular videos were born.

My last dream was about being back in school, but realizing I didn’t know my schedule, or where anything was in the school. So the dream was me at school one day, lost on campus, late to classes, and generally being unprepared for everything. And the school layout was somehow a mix of every school I’ve attended in my life, plus a few random buildings from movies (and not normal movies - more like Mortal Kombat). And that, my friends, is why I decided I really don’t need to get my Masters degree.

How To Pick A Perfect Watermelon Every Time

How To Pick A Perfect Watermelon Every Time

Produce experts say there are 3 key things to look for when picking a watermelon:
    1. Go for the gold. The spot on the watermelon is called the 'field spot.' The richer in gold color, the better.
    2. Look at the stripes. The tripes should be even and contrast sharply.
    3. Look at the shape. The more round the watermelon, the sweeter it will be.

I think the tapping thing is a load of malarkey. If it's more hollow sounding, then it could be cracked and literally hollow in the middle. I cut open loads of them in the summer as part of my job. It's really just random. What I do notice is that each batch we get in is almost always exactly similar. One batch may be totally pink in the middle and not good, then the next we get totally deep red and sweet.

    Why We Get Déjà Vu?

    Why We Get Déjà Vu?

Déjà vu has been described as a 'glitch in the matrix.' It’s the feeling that you’ve done something or seen something before. But is this proof that we’re living in a simulation? Scientists say, not so fast and believe it has to do with memory.

One leading theory is called 'split perception': your brain accidentally perceives an event twice, making it feel like you’ve been there before. Another theory is that your brain gets confused and tries to recall memories when processing the present.

Regardless, déjà vu is always strange.

I had the weirdest dream that I was ironing (!) at work. We sold tea towels in the gift shop which were white, but the ones I was ironing were a pale yellow. Told my SO about it. A few weeks later and I'm running the kitchen (burgers, ice cream, biccies) and the Manager asks me to do some laundry. I didn't even know we had a washing machine, but there was a dryer too. We used the tea towels in the kitchen and they needed washing. I also threw in a couple of dusters I'd been using. When the wash was done everything was yellow — oops! Thought nothing of it until I was ironing all the dried laundry a couple of hours later; it was EXACTLY like my dream. It shook me up a bit.

Deja vu can also be a response of a type of focal seizure. Focal awareness seizures (aka simple partial and auras) are a type of focal seizure that affects the senses. People who have one can have certain things they smell, taste, see, sounds they hear, feelings they get (positive and negative or strange), including deja vu. The list goes on and on. What happens to each individual depends on the location of the focal point in the brain (visual area will most likely see things like colors and hallucinations are just a few things).

I’m guessing the long nights of winter means families are spending most of their time indoors and end up preying on each other’s nerves. Also, Seasonal Affective Disorder, which my doctor told me (because I have it and take antidepressants against it) has the highest suicide rate of all depressive disorders.

Casey didn’t expect to grow the following that he has now. He started creating the videos as a hobby during the last semesters of his studies. So he feels really grateful for what he has achieved: “I have been very fortunate to have such an incredibly supportive community of viewers. Being able to positively impact someone's day has definitely made my life more special.”

He feels that his content on TikTok is closely tied to his interests and that it would be hard to get bored, so he doesn’t plan on stopping making videos soon. And because these videos are a reflection of him, also because creators always evolve, Casey says, “I do love photography and making skits with my friends, so it would be fun to eventually incorporate some of my other hobbies!”

Beware #3, Philippines especially is known for having a high rate of foreigner/tourist tax which is basically just scamming the uninformed. It's done there by all levels of businesses, not just a few shady characters on the streets (yes I'm aware this behavior exists in all countries).

Went to Indonesia in 2019 with my cousin. The most expensive part of the trip was airfare. We stayed in what was considered expensive hotels for like $12 a night. Expensive food was $6 a meal and it was delicious. This was not Bali but more inland. It was a city called Surakarta or Solo. The people were so warm and kind. I cried like a baby when we left and we had plans for going back in 2020. Actually bought airfare a couple weeks before everything locked down. I'm hoping we can go back because not a day goes by that I don't miss being there. It was by far the best vacation I've ever been on. Not because it was luxurious but because in the world's 4th most populated country we were treated with kindness and acceptance everywhere we went.

In 2001-2002, I spent a year traveling around all of Southeast Asia and had the most fun of my entire life. Thailand was still largely rural at that time and I really enjoyed taking smaller and smaller, older and older buses as I went to more and more obscure places. People entered mostly through the back doors, which were always open and had a big area for people to put their baskets and/or farm animals (chickens mostly, but sometimes goats or pigs). Each stop would have people with baskets of food to sell, which were all wrapped with banana leaves, and because I couldn’t ask what they had, I had a lot of interesting surprises, although it was often just rice. I remember at one small place the man next to on the back bench seat bought two small cups (paper/wax, not plastic) of ice cream, which turned out to be vanilla with some surprise peanuts at the bottom. It was so sweet and kind.

Now almost all Casey’s videos are just fact videos. There are so many of them that the TikToker started to categorize them and there are a few popular series like Life Hacks, which is self-explanatory, and About You, in which you get to know what your birth month flowers are or how rare your birthday is. He has created series for facts about music, food, anime, and many more.

Casey says that it is hard to choose his favorite series, so he pointed out which series he really enjoyed making and it’s the series about siblings. He is actually an only child, but “it is always fun to create content that family members can share with each other.”

If you’re wondering how he comes up with his video topics for facts, Casey revealed to us that a majority of them are a result of conversations with friends.

We have a couple feral-born tabby girls; the older is a bobtail. Our daughters named them Beverli and Betti(long-tailed). They're almost 3 and 2, and the only survivors out of several litters(lost count and idk how many in each) besides big much-older bro/dad Buddy and Bobbi, also stubby-tailed. Get near an otter den, once, they don't stop trying to kill you until they think they've succeeded. I'm not particularly afraid of them, but I certainly keep an eye out for dens. Look up otter attacks, and I'll bet some stories pop up on your screen. Yet, I see it from both sides, as I'm sure they are still cute while attacking.

How To Always Stop Brain Freeze

How To Always Stop Brain Freeze

Brain freezes are headaches that are caused by eating or drinking something too cold. The ‘freeze’ is from your body trying to maintain its core temperature. Researchers have found 2 hacks that stop brain freeze:
    1. Try pressing your tongue or thumb to the roof of your mouth.
    2. Try a sip of warm water.

I've never experienced brain freeze, but it looks agonizing. When my sons were little, I'd take them to the park and then ice cream for the ride home. My little son was in his car seat screaming bloody hell, so I pulled over, to see what happened. I thought he got stung by a bee or something equally awful. Nope, brain freeze. It went away and he resumed eating his ice cream. Oddest damn thing.

How is french easier than english? French is my first language and, as a humorist said, it's more art than logic. "To say "water" in french, you say "o". It's spelled "eau". Then if you're talking about mulitiple waters you put an "x" at the end, but you don't pronounce it!"

It depends on your natural language. If you speak English as a natural language, then Germanic type languages will be pretty easy to learn. A good portion of English is Germanic based. English has a large base of Anglo Saxon, which was a language made of a mixed Viking and Scottish languages when the Vikings moved to Scotland. It changed over time, but there are a lot of similar sounds and a good portion of words with similar meanings in Germanic languages for English based speakers.

Exactly. It's a stupid top. It's all relative. I am Romanian and most foreigners complain how hard it is to learn our language. We have grammar and spelling rules that follow no logic, with tons of senseless exceptions.

As a Farsi speaker who learnt both English and German, I really struggled with German and English was way easier. I get it depends on your first language and your language faculty, but the German grammar and object genders are very vast and complicated, can't even compare it to the loose English grammar.

You mean grammatical gender, I suppose. English grammar is not loose, but its morphology is certainly simpler. No conjugations or declension. And logical gender does help :)

Romanian is difficult for native English speakers. They told me lol. It's not your typical romantic language. For us Romanians it's very easy to learn any other romantic language, especially Spanish and Italian. I can understand about 60% of what my Spanish friends talk about and I know like 10 Spanish words. German is not an easy language to learn let's be serious.

Those prices are off. Most of them (not the tibetian mastiff for example) cost between 500 from a puppy mill or 1500- 3500€ from an established breeder. That said: check for breed related health issues and character traits and give a shelter dog a new life instead of supporting breeders of unhealthy breeds or puppy mills. The right dog is already there, it only takes time to find it.

Things You Should Know Before Getting A Tattoo

Things You Should Know Before Getting A Tattoo

Almost 40 percent of American adults have at least one tattoo. But more tattoos mean a greater chance of infection. Tattoos become infected when they become contaminated and contamination can lead to amputation. The 2 main reasons for contamination are when the artist doesn’t wash their hands and wear gloves, and also the needles are not sterilized. This is why it’s so important to always get your tattoos done by a professional.

There is no such thing as "double-jointed". The term "double-jointed" implies that a person has twice the average number of joints, when instead they are just unusually flexible, which allows for their increased range of motion.

You missed Single Palmar Crease; A single palmar crease appears in about 1 out of 30 people. Males are twice as likely as females to have this condition. My daughter has it on both hands, her paternal grandfather had it on his left hand, I (female) have it on my right hand.

    3 Ways To Sleep Better

    3 Ways To Sleep Better

    1. Stick to a sleep schedule. Having a routine reinforces your sleep-wake cycle.
    2. Limit your naps. Any nap during the day that’s over 30 minutes can jeopardize a good night’s sleep.
    3. Stop caffeine before bed. Having caffeine up to 6 hours before bed has been shown to significantly worsen sleep quality.

    Learning Body Language: Eyes Edition

    • If someone’s pupils are dilated, it means they’re interested.
    • If someone is blinking rapidly, it means they’re uncomfortable.

Yes it should. I lived on the Navajo Nation. My late husband was Navajo and even he wasn't a fluent speaker. I lived with his family and even though I was exposed to the Dine' language on a daily basis, I was never able to learn the language. I went on to live in Bosnia and South Korea and their respective languages were much easier to learn.Thinking about my time on the reservation makes me miss it in very much. Although it was extremely difficult at the time, I took it for granted and failed to appreciate the beauty of the culture and my man, of course.

For real!? I think Japanese is actually pretty easy..? The vowels ALWAYS sound the same so it's hard to mispronounce words once you get into the momentum. I imagine it is because of the Kanji though. That is definitely the hardest part about it.

Mandarin is far harder than Japanese. I think the only thing really hard to learn for Japanese (having studied it for a few years) is the written aspect. 46 Hiragana characters, 46 Katakana, and you need know at least 2,136 Kanji characters to function properly in Japan.

Things To Know Before Chewing Ice

Things To Know Before Chewing Ice

Lots of people love to chew on ice, but is it bad for our health? In moderation chewing ice is not something to lose sleep over.

However, if you are a compulsive ice chewer, you may have something to worry about. Eating too much ice per day can strip away your teeth’s enamel. If your enamel is destroyed there’s a greater chance of developing sensitivity issues as well as infections. You’ll be fine as long as you crunch in moderation.

Again, dental hygienist here...if you are a chronic ice chewer you need to have your iron level checked. A lot of chronic ice chewers are anemic. As for the “enamel stripping”, uh, no. What you will do is chip or break your teeth over time and that is not good.

Another crap one. Your handwriting is affected by your posture. Bad posture usually equals bad handwriting. I write small, I'm not shy nor detail-oriented. I have small spaces, I hate being around other people. I just have crappy handwriting.

What if you write really messy? Like me? Side fact about me, I wrote with a left hand until one of my schools decided that being left handed meant you were some how deficient and forced me to write with my right. So now I can write with both hands. Both as messy as each other!

Note to self: Print next ransom letter in Calibri 8 points with double spacing so the profiler will think I'm shy and detail-oriented and enjoy being alone.
