The Inhumans of Late Capitalism page (not to be confused with the Humans of Late Capitalism social media accounts which is a similar but entirely different horse entirely) has over 178.6k followers, all eagerly waiting for the next juicy post making fun of our dystopian everyday lives.
As many of you have probably realized by now, capitalism is far from a perfect system. But what’s the alternative? Does one even exist? Anyone who’s ever opened up a history book knows that communism isn’t an alternative—it’s just a more brutal dystopia that resulted in the deaths of millions of people. And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
However, things might not be as grim nowadays as we think. For instance, Paul Mason writes in The Guardian that we might be entering the postcapitalist era without even noticing it. The forces driving this are information technology, the rise of the sharing economy, and new ways of working. Mason’s point of view is refreshing because he paints a bright and sunny picture of the future, instead of one where we’re all doomed and fighting global warming, zombies, and the plague on all fronts.
According to Mason, information technology has reduced the need for work, blurred the “edges between work and free time,” and “loosened the relationship between work and wages.” The amount we have to work will further diminish as automation increases. But that’ll still take a while because our way of thinking has yet to catch up with the power of robotics.
Mason also states that we’re “seeing the spontaneous rise of collaborative production: goods, services, and organizations are appearing that no longer respond to the dictates of the market and the managerial hierarchy. The biggest information product in the world—Wikipedia—is made by volunteers for free, abolishing the encyclopedia business and depriving the advertising industry of an estimated $3bn a year in revenue.”
In other words, we’re seeing various new forms of work, ownership, and businesses that will (in the long run) change our society as we know it. But whether or not it’ll be a postcapitalist society or something else entirely, we’ll find out in a few decades.
So you spend money but you are still loitering...ok
Seriously?! Now they are stressing you... I know it's called fast food but some people (like me) eat slowly!
That's just there to make it easier to kick out homeless people and kids. If you are eating and you go over the limit they probably won't bother you.
Load More Replies...There was a story I believe on here where someone at a mcds did just that to an elderly couple that had been going there for years. It backfired when the local news got involved. I'm surprised they actually post a sign saying it. Makes me glad mcds is one of the fast food places my wife and I abandoned a few years ago.
Load More Replies...On one hand, since I’ve been in restaurants where some people just hang out, noisily, I can understand the motivation. On the other hand, fast food places historically colored their restaurant interiors with colors determined in psychological studies to irritate people. The intention was to make sure people eat and get OUT! When fast food started to get a negative cultural impression, they all changed their interiors to make them seem more “homey”. They don’t care about anything but profit and Wall Street share prices. This sign presents the policy in a less than friendly manner, and we are generally savvy enough a society to see the coldness and irony in this whole sign taken as one.
This is a sign I've seen a lot, not just at McDonald's, since I've managed small restaurants in a bigger city.. it's indeed intended for homeless customers only because their demeanor and scent often make others uncomfortable and hinder their experience. It's usually the closing manager (the low paid supervisors) who have to uncomfortably ask them to leave, which sometimes leads to needing to call the police when they don't. No one in the establishment enjoys these experiences...
That wouldn't work in small towns. McD's is often the morning meeting place for the retirees and veterans.
They do this in Seattle so homeless don't buy one order of fries and stay all sat
We love having the opportunity to sell you a product with zero nutritional value but we want you to shovel it in, and hustle on outta here.
Obviously indicates a local issue, likely one that's causing problems for legitimate customers. Might also be security related. Some of these stores exist in high crime areas.
This sign isn't at the McDonald's by my work, but is in the one by my apartment. I always stay at least an hour at locations where this is up.
Me:(Tear drop in one of my eye) But I want to relish every bite! How do I supposed to enjoy every second of the meal that I ordered that you know I'm hungry and want every piece of it to be worth.
Never seen that once. My daughter works for McDonald's, and they often have regulars that come in for hours on end. They're friendly with the staff and have established a good relationship with those customers; this sign is a good way to kill that.
Did you know that fast food restaurants used to painted bright yellow (I mean BRIGHT yellow) so people would feel uncomfortable and leave faster?
A question I have is how can they enforce this. Can people be kicked out of a place if they aren't making a scene? If so they shouldn't.
It's private property and they can be removed for any reason. Can I come hang out in your living room as long as I don't make a scene?

Why would you bring a group of toddlers anywhere, other than day care or the like, for an extended period of time?
Load More Replies...Fun fact! McDs used to have benches that were designed to be uncomfortable of sat in for too long. They were slanted at a perfect angle to make your legs fall asleep, and just hard enough to get uncomfortable after a while. They replaced them about 10 years ago.
I wonder why this is ? Need to move around after all that fast food ?!
Hmm it's good to set boundaries for your kids en give them a sense of responsibility. But not in the way you are proposing mr Coach-dad wich sons and daughters are probably real sad en feel no self worth because you give them the feeling they are never good enough for your approval.
When youre at home all day playing games and your mom tells you to go play outside 🤡
do not buy from a company thats owned by a man who hoards billions! wealth should be distributed!!
WTF is wrong with the people who make these posters lol
Puccino's is well known for its often self-deprecating humour. From an advertising point of view it seems to be successful.
Imagine the homeless having to sleep on a bench like this
And it's an anti-homeless bench, too. That's not an armrest, it's too small for that... it's just meant to make it harder to sleep there.
Attention: you are expendable. You aren't special. There are others just like you now have a great day!
Frozen stickers are on bananas too and it reads "limited edition". Wtf!
But how is this bad? They're not exploiting you for money, just trying to make sure you're ok and they're trying to make sure you have a plan on getting a safe place of your own to stay
This is common. I was told to do this type of thing when I worked in retail years ago tbh.
Um, how old is this billboard? You can't touch a home in San Francisco for less than $1 million.
Over half of these have little to nothing to do with capitalism, and almost all of the posts are people just whining about modern society.
I don't know which one is more depressive, the post or the some comments here. Many people can't even dream a better world anymore. Even after seeing all these obviously unacceptable examples first thing they do is to take time a try to advocate "business". Even that student loan advertisement should be enough to stfu with your "business is good" b******t for a moment. Just shut up for a moment!! This is coming from a recent graduate with 30k education debt. You know, kind of a debt many of you were not familiar in your college years.
Um, socialism has quite the dark side as well if you do your research.
And all aspects of that can be trickled down to capitalism. If you mean communism, then I will agree with you there. No great power should be given to one person, or a group of persons. Socialism is a community effort though. If you are talking about failures in socialized medicine, then that can all be attributed to certain people wanting to make profit on medicine (capitalism) and influencing the government through funding...

Do we have a f*cking choice though? What's wrong with wanting things to be better? We can still have THIS but in an improved way!

I got too sick of the pro-laissez-faire capitalism comments from cultists to keep looking through this list.
Capitalism literally rewards people for meeting other people's needs. Socialism brings whole nations into poverty. You probably thinking of 'consumerism', not 'capitalism'.

F**K YOU for being a hypocrite and using the tools of capitalism to bash it. F**K YOU for wanting to go socialist and hurt.......absolutely everything. You are ignorant. You may as well say "Let them eat cake"
Yep. You simply can't want a better life for yourself or the people around you. Also stop using the word "triggered" for such a minor complaint please.

You shouldn't use lazy comparisons to try to prove a point. On the capitalistic/socialist spectrum the US is far more capitalistic than western Europe but the US has much worse corruption at this time. Full capitalism is just as bad as full socialism. You just don't realize that there aren't really any fully capitalistic countries that exist to compare to a full socialist country. The US, Western Europe, China and Japan all have a mix of socialism and capitalism. A good balance of the two is what works best right now.
