What Happens When Professional Artists Recreate Kids’ Monster Doodles In Their Own Unique Style (New Pics)
We all know that children have vivid imaginations and creative visualization comes pretty naturally to them. However, nowadays lots of children are so into ready-made images from sources such as TV, video games, computers and much more, that it is very important to encourage and inspire children to use their imaginations and explore creativity. To help them develop their imaginations and encourage them to follow their creative potential, artists from all over the world have teamed up to create 'The Monster Project', which was featured on Bored Panda before.
Celebrating their 4th year anniversary, the project invites elementary students to draw monsters. Once their monsters are done, artists give them a little of artistic touch by bringing them to life. Then, the new interpretations are delivered back to children in order to demonstrate new art techniques within the original creative context.

That mischievous look can only mean one thing.....Rainbow fart clouds fast-approaching!!
Does anyone know the artist of this one? I really like this style and I would like to see more, but the signature is too small for me to read.
unfortunately, Joanne, you have to go through ALL the artists and find you favorite one.... https://themonsterproject.org/2017-artists/
Load More Replies...This is my favorite because I think it really captures exactly what the child was trying to draw
Aww. This one is just cute. And the original drawing is so good! That kid has real talent.
I love this one the most! Love that the artist used the direction of the marks on the original rocket to create a textured surface. It's the most in line with the original drawing. Fantastic
This one has to be my favorite. The style is just so amazing! Love it <3
this would be something to put on a canvas and then put on a wall and you could literally say my little kid thought of this and someone recreated it
Six strings Four hands.....that's the name of my monster garage band...wanna make out?
They're clearly extra arms not wings, it's like you haven't had any training in monster anatomy!
Load More Replies...Not nearly swole enough for that, but I like the way you think.
Load More Replies...Seriously, what's wrong with liking it? I understand if you don't agree with me, but there's nothing bad about what I said.
Load More Replies...Wish I could see this a bit bigger. Looks like a hairy, red piece of toast with 4 limbs and a curly hair-do...it's awesome!!
Does she practice kissing on the wall because im pretty sure i see lipstick
I really have to doubt that the original illustrations were done by children. This is an overused ploy having adults draw like children. There are tell-tale signs that this is the case here...
A bit of an homage to Jean-Michele Basquiat? Or is the hand-drawn crown such a third generation cliche that nobody remembers where it came from...
I agree...in a very sincere and compassionate way. There is so much pain in that original drawing. </3
Load More Replies...So the kid's mother was a prominent researcher at some University before an accident occurred...
Load More Replies...The boy's name was Artimus, and his uncle Zeus set him a task to accomplish before he could take his rightful place on Olympus.
huh when i seen this its National Spaghetti Day, january 4th
There actually isn't a huge difference in the drawings here. The kid who drew the original is very talented.
They threw in a background and shading, not much else!
Load More Replies...WHY IS THE DRAGON'S EYE ORANGE IN THE ARTIST'S PICTURE? THE ORIGINAL IS GREEN!
I’m not sure but I think these bats had sth to do with the blood flowing from eyes of that poor monster ... actually quite a lot of blood xD and original one has better eye colour :)
This kid has seen some stuff! Very original qnd snart to just draw the eyes or mouths
I really love how this was interpreted. Didn’t change anything, just fleshed it out more. Super cool that it didn’t have to become a monster or something with environment. This is a one of a kind piece
What cartoon? Steven universe? Amazing world of gumball? Just WHAT cartoon?
Load More Replies...Nice way incorporating the original colour scheme and a nod to the little doodles above the monster
I'm kind of disappointed that the artist gave the colorful monster a black background.
Load More Replies...I agree... And add a lot that isn't necessary... Pointy noses?
Load More Replies...I was actually thinking Adventure time when I saw this!
Load More Replies...The head on the right reminds me of the mayor from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Just me?
This one's cool - looks like he got hold of a bunch of Pantone swatches.
It looks like a kid saw some one in his back yard by his pool and hot tub with a bloody knife. And he didn't know how to process it so his mind made up a monster to take the place of the dangerous individual. To preserve his psyche. And then YOU take that monster and make him silly and cute and fill the picture with toast and jam. How helpful are you?! 👉👉👉0%👈👈👈 I wouldn't be surprised if this traumatized the child even more.... The idea of eating what was on that knife!
He attempted Jason, then it was changed into a grater spoon spreading jam on bread. *Claps*
Sounds like tinhatter logic but, now that isee the sign it makes sense.
Interesting how this artist took artistic license to make this picture all about the new world order. Which is not in the child's picture at all. I mentioned this in a comment below and it was deleted?!. Why?!. 1UP= ONE UNITED POWER= NEW WORLD ORDER= ILLUMINATI. Checker board design, and Colorado mountains in the back ground and all. who wants to bet that this comment will also be removed because freedom of speech means nothing to the NWO. I guess that's up to bored panda who they serve. This is my opinion.
Actually you're right on this one. I almost missed they do have "One United Power" in the corner. If it was just the 1UP then it could be up to interpretation. You're opinion is spot on
Load More Replies...I bet the children were excited to see there drawing more of less come to life.
It was interesting to see different takes to the original kid illustrations. Some are close to the original where the artist or artists thought about what the kid wanted to illustrate and tried to stay close to it and "only" fleshing it out and bringing it to life. Others have big changes and many additions made to the original. And some are somewhere in between (missed some important details an/or did they best to keep the themes).
Some are really cute, but the others are nightmare fuel!! :) Did the kid see the all the final results? Were they scared?
Seriously, they should have done this for Monsters Inc. have kids draw them & then use it as a template. Almost all of them are great for that movie!
OKAY BUT WHO AR THE ARTISTS WHO DID THE WORK? WHY DOES NO ONE CARE ABOUT GIVING CREDIT WHERE ITS DUE???
I really have to doubt that the original illustrations were done by children. This is an overused ploy having adults draw like children. There are tell-tale signs that this is the case here.
Wow! What a pleasure cruise to look at these! I have just had half an hour with my head in the clouds absorbing all the fantastic detail! Brilliant! I love articles like this.
Great pics. You definitely have the knack of interpreting these kids drawings.
