Are the Toronto clouds usually that low or is that some sort of ground fog? There's a plane that flies over me on approach to an airport about 25 miles away, and some days it's in the clouds and some days below, so I think the usual clouds I get are at about 5000-6000 feet (using feet because that's what FlightRadar24 gives for the aircraft height).

Lived here my whole life and I would say it's odd that the clouds are that low, this pic just got taken at a perfect moment or it was fog as you mentioned. Toronto is on Lake Ontario and many of our Toronto adjacent cities follow along the lake (we call it the golden horseshoe) and most days even from across the lake we can see the Tower pretty clearly..

Stonehenge has a very interesting modern history. For many years they were just standing stones, with no real historical significance, just a curiosity on the landscape of Wiltshire. There is a great photo from c1885 showing the path next to the stones, before they were "restored" in the 1900's - https://www.academia.edu/3111354/Johnson_A_Solving_Stonehenge_History_Today#loswp-work-container

Was it designed to look like that just to look like that, or is there some sort of special thing about the construction that's more visible internally to, for instance, amplify the performers? Is it naturally resonant, or something like that?

A quick Google suggests that it was designed like that simply in order to look the way it does, like stylised boat sails.

The Western part is the oldest part of the wall, it's not made from bricks/stone. It's made from straw and rammed earth, and isn't nearly as tall as the Eastern part.

This is what remains of the wall by 玉门关 (Yumen Pass), a very important early Han Dynasty (121 BC) gate that was in use up to the Tang Dynasty (can't find a specific date), when it fell into disuse. Can't find records of the materials, though the gate still stands and that is stone, so I expect this wall is too, especially given that this was right by the most important gateway into classical era China. There are older parts of the wall that were temporary and made of dirt, but that was Qin Dynasty, and this is definitely Han Dynasty.

I've just discovered that the island has been served by a wire rope hauled underground tramway since about 1900: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Michael%27s_Mount_Tramway

The Mona Lisa is, imho, one of the biggest and longest ongoing hypes that lack foundation. Someone called it the most important painting and the inflated hype is going on for decades. Leonardo WAS in fact a literal genius at his time, but there are literally thousands of historic paintings that are at least at the same artistic levels (just watch at how the Dutch masters painted fur! ). Leonardo did a ton of paintings that are way more interesting (sketches of machines etc)

How lucky I was to enjoy portrait Lady with ermine, also by Da Vinci. It's alone in small room, with just handful of people. I'm not telling where is it.

She is probably native and her pursed lips are the response to the desecration to the sacred land and rock.

I know Mount Rushmore has a reputation for a "don't see" American tourist attraction, but I found the site, its surroundings, and the story about it well-worth visiting. Would recommend going in the off-season, though!

Originally intended as the bell tower for the Cathedral of Pisa, the building is a testament to Romanesque architecture, featuring characteristic elements such as semi-circular arches, robust columns, and decorative arcading.

If you went up there without permission and without safety equipment you are a selfish t.w.a.t.. You're young enough to think you wouldn't fall because you think you wouldn't fall, but arrogant young men have accidents all the time, and putting other people through that it was makes it so selfish.

People complain about the slow completion. 1) this was started by a SINGLE person. 2) This project receives ZERO Government Funding (unlike when Mount Rushmore was built). 3) Progress is paid by DONATIONS.

I visited both sides of the falls and I was surprised at the number of signs with crisis hotline numbers, or encouraging phrases, or offering help for mental illness, etc. We asked a park ranger about it, and she told us that the falls was a common place for ending things. So much sadness in such a beautiful place.
