This New Office Cabin Is Called “Studypod” And You Can Place It In Your Backyard

With this whole health crisis going on in the world, the number of people working from home is rapidly increasing. But here’s the thing—spending that much time at home can sometimes drive people a bit crazy. Luckily, this Norwegian design studio Livit came up with an innovative idea to help those working from home spend more time close to nature. This company created a detached office cabin that allows people to isolate and work close to nature without leaving their houses.

This mini detached home office is called Studypod and you can place it right in your backyard

“Science shows that being surrounded by plants, trees, and nature improves mental health, productivity, and learning abilities. This is why Studypod is designed to be placed in your garden, in the forest, or any inspiring environment. With one large window in the front, it’s like working outside while being sheltered,” Livit writes on their webpage.

In fact, you can buy it either with or without the detachable desk so you can use the Studypod not only for working but for other purposes too. “Home office, Yoga studio, hobby room, extra bedroom. With the detachable desk comes new opportunities,” claims the company.

The price starts at $13,500

The Studypod is quite tiny, at only 38 square feet. Despite how small it is, the company claims, the cabin can fit a king-size bed, so you can easily turn it into a detached guest room.

“Our goal at Livit is to create amazing experiences for people, and the ‘Studypod’ is something we think can truly add value to people’s everyday lives by giving them breathing space without distractions, where they can focus and get close to nature,” designer Torstein Aa told Business Insider.

And it’s not the first cabin the company has created—at the beginning of 2020, Livit released the Birdbox, which is a small adventure cabin for travellers

This is just stupid, No electricity ! at this price it should at least come with some solar panels...Can you imagine the heat in the summer in this thing at 35 Celsius with 90% humidity ? What about the cold in the winter - 20 Celsius ?

Or you could visit your sporting-goods store and get a freakin TENT for about 1/50th the price.

For that price I can create an awning in the backyard for my desk and chair. And have much more space.

You could buy a decent sized shed and desk; add electric and a standalone temperature device for a lot less than this. Something I've often thought of doing in fact.

How incredibly "read the room first" this is: I just finished another BP post about tips for living in your car because it's more and more likely, and people with a house and property big enough for one of these pods actually need them?!

Beyond stupid. A good tent big enough for a desk and chair, with light and ventilation, can be bought for less than one-tenth of this. And it's portable as well.

At that price? Not a chance. With no electricity, there's no point. I could just take my laptop out into the yard.

It will fit a king sized bed if you cut it to pieces first.

This just makes me sad, It's completely impractical - and way, way, too expensive. It's a horrendous representation of people who try to make our world nice and modern, Architects and designers. There are some amazing ones, Like most garden designers I've heard about. But this, this is a MONSTROSITY. It's a black box with a desk and a plant. For 13,000. 13,000. THIRTEEN, THOUSAND. Whoever thought this was a good idea, They are not so smart are they?

Why would I want this oversized charger in my backyard? I'm Dutch. My backyard is the size of a stamp. If I want something to fill up my backyard I will add another trampoline. At least then my kids will enjoy it.

This seems like one of things that starts out as an idea for a home office but in 10 years they'll be on tech campuses as living pods for employees.

Gotta say.. I like the idea of small rooms like this. Not quite sure why, just feels safe. Also, I'm from Norway, same as the box! However, I don't think I will ever buy one, nor afford it. But I like it!
