I have a large extended family - five siblings, in-laws, etc. etc. with many children! Though we "adults" are supposed to be giving anything to each other for Christmas (there has been a Yankee Swap most years) I decided, @ 15 years ago ; that I would put out baskets of socks/scarves/hats/ mittens etc. at each family gathering, and tell everyone that they could take one or two items that they can use. I buy throughout the year, looking for sales, and this way - everyone gets what they need, I don't have to figure out sizes or color preferences, etc., and if there are leftover items, I donate them to refugees / homeless organizations. (Plus, no wrapping!!!)
