I once told someone they looked like an elf. They thought I was calling them short. I was calling them pretty.
For something as popular as the "Harry Potter" franchise, it's impossible to get love only. If you type "why is Harry Potter so..." in the Google search bar, the engine will give you many different suggestions. From why is it so "popular," "famous," and "powerful," to people wondering what makes it so "boring," "special," and "weak" (the last one is probably about the character).
It might be hard to find a person that's unfamiliar with the character or the franchise. With that said, even adults have been mesmerized by the story from the time the very first book came out. But should adults feel ashamed for reading "Potter"? Even one of the actors from the original film series, Miriam Margolyes, said grownup fans should "be over that by now." "I just think that it's for children!" she defended her stance.

However, some might say that "Harry Potter" is not for all adults. That's especially true for Gen Z grownups, and it mostly has to do with the author. While Millennials might be more forgiving or willing to separate the art from the artists, many Gen Zers shun J.K. Rowling for her anti-trans views.

To answer the question, he didn't need to. Voldie had some inkling of the ancient magic that had created potter's defense against him, but he didn't know the fullest extent of it. Even his Death Eaters, weren't certain just what was going on, just that there was some kind of protection that Potter had. Losing the duel in the graveyard didn't lose him any credibility to his followers, if anything it just confirmed to Voldie that there was more at play when it came to Potter, something that he didn't quite understand. That mistake being, he didn't realize he'd turned Potter into a Horcrux, though the books do seem to suggest near the end, he was coming to that realization after the battle at the graveyard.

Speaking parseltongue is the only requirement; not only does Ron hear it regularly with Harry's nightmares, but heard him trying to tell the locket to open not exactly that long before, ad that is assuming that Harry didn't just tell him some snek to say beforehand.

Because the publisher wanted to aim the book at a younger audience than in the UK and so thought that the word philosopher wouldn't invoke that youngr audience into thinking of magic, at least that is what I read once.

What I read is that the US publisher thought that the word "philosopher" wouldn't be understood by or would frighten off American book-buyers - no, I'm saying nothing about the American public, just about the thinking of that particular American publisher... 😬 (which wasn't at all sensible if you ask me, given the number of really crazy Americans who come over all "Burn the witch!" at the first hint of magic in, um, fiction... 😁)

As a well-read, classically educated American, I think the word "philosopher" would not have given the young American audience any difficulty. But I doubt many would know what the philosopher's stone was or what it was purported to do.

The thing is, Rowling assumed that the readers wouldn't know what the philosopher's stone was supposed to be any more than Harry or Ron, which is why it was explained in the book (which I've not read for a while; I assume that Hermione knew - or found out after a trip to the library...)

Because they don't. At most they are ensorcelled to act a certain way and say a limited number of phrases, IF you are important enough or rich enough. They cannot act or speak outside of the parameters of the spell cast on them. Most paintings are silent, not all of them even move, and they are all likely incredibly expensive.
