There is a saying that all dogs are puppies, but some of our canine friends decide to push this idea to its very limits. I’m talking, of course, about the largest boys, the most sizable specimens.
We’ve gathered a selection of the biggest and cutest dog pics that netizens have shared online. We also got in touch with Katlin Longfield, owner of the 2Husketeers to learn a bit more about big dogs, keeping them, and other cute stories. Bored Panda got in touch with Katlin Longfield, the owner of the 2Husketeers and she was kind enough to answer some of our questions. Naturally, we were curious to hear her story about getting into dog ownership and content.
“I just got my first mirrorless camera back in February 2016, and I started practicing by taking a lot of photos. My muse being my dogs of course. I was posting a LOT of dog photos, I mean who can really get enough? Well, I think my friends and family were, so I started a dog Instagram account and @2husketeers was born. If you scroll WAY down, you can still see the first photos I posted on my account. I've come a long way and still have lots to learn.”

Given the massive popularity of cat content online, we wanted to hear Kairlin’s take on what made dogs interesting to so many people. “There's nothing better than a dog when you are having a bad day! Second to that is dog content. Nothing brings a smile to my face more when I scroll and see cute dogs in my feed. There's something so fun, innocent, and entertaining. Plus, I want all the dogs but since that's not realistic, I can see all the dogs on my socials.”

PSA: Don't crop your dog's ears and don't buy from breeders who crop their dogs. Docking is acceptable in certain situations (i.e., in Dobermans it can be acceptable to help prevent Happy Tail syndrome.) There is no "immediate" medical need/reason to crop a dog's ears. Some livestock-guardian breeds (such as the Kuchi Dog) are still regularly cropped in their native countries, in order to prevent predators from damaging the ears, but if your dog is just going to be a pet, then you're a complete tool if you crop its ears/buy a cropped puppy for vanity reasons.

When people adopt doodles, they are often unaware that their coats are NOT "easy to maintain" - they are often somewhere in-between a Poodle's waterproof, thick, harsh, curly coat and the coat type of whatever the other parent breed is - which can make grooming a nightmare (or mats to form rapidly if the dog is not brushed/groomed regularly.) Watson here looks like he is well-maintained! But it's something that people should be aware of when considering adopting a doodle - they ARE mutts and are not "standard" breeds with standard coat types.

I love big dogs. My husband liked small ones. We compromised on corgis. Big dogs with no legs.
I love large breeds. My current dogs are a 2-year-old German Shepherd/Kuchi Dog mix (who is disabled from having distemper as a puppy) and an 8-month-old Belgian Malinois. The GSD mix is around 60 lbs (he would have probably topped out at around 100lbs if he hadn't had distemper) and the Mal is currently 53 lbs. I hope to have a Dane or a Mastiff someday! <3 I just wish they had longer lifespans :(
We got addicted to greyhounds. They are pretty long lived for such a big breed, but if course if you rescue an ex racer they are already maybe 5. I met a whippet puppy at the pub last night, I just love a long dog 😍

I'm guessing the poops will be to scale. I'm thinking swing bin liners over regular poop bags?!
Feed a raw diet. Smaller poops and longer lifespan.

People want them because "big dog = more joy" but they underestimate the cost of food and training and hell, eventually cremation for these guys. (I only bring up cremation because I just lost my 16lb cat and it was $10\lb to cremate him, so if you apply that to a 150-200lb dog ...) My point is, understand the needs of the breed you're getting. If you adopt a mystery dog and it surprises you, thats one thing. But do your research before investing in a huge breed dog
Those cremation costs are insane! And why? My Anatolian - is buried under a tree- they'll both like it that way. Sounds like a business opportunity to me! "Happy Sleeping Grounds" for urban pets and happy growth for forests... :-)

I love large dogs breeds, unfortunately their lifespan is too damn short. You'd be lucky to have them for 15 years, most of them only lived 8 - 10 years, such a shame! :weep:
My heart-dog, my GSD Ember, only made it to 12 :( I love Newfies and Danes too, but man, that 8-10 year lifespan :'(

In our school, there is a MASSIVE therapy dog. I think it's a leonberger, and omg he's gigantic. There's enough space for like ten middle schoolers to pet him comfortably.
On the floor, next to its bed, because the cat has claimed it.

My partner wants a mastiff. I'd like a great Dane. Oh dear we may end up with one of each
And many of those big dogs are bred to guard livestock. They live to guard. If you don't have livestock and can't give them the life they are bred for, please choose a different breed. It's like having a greyhound without room to run. Greyhounds are sight hounds. You can't punish him for doing what he's born to do.
And make sure they also have plenty of room. Our neighbors across the street have a Great Dane and he is super sweet, lives in their basement. But I haven’t seen him out on a walk for about a year. Makes me sad. They got a smaller, medium sized dog too, and they don’t walk her either. It’s not like they have a big backyard. Those dogs need exercise

I used to love huge breeds, but after a few nasty experiences at the dog park, happening both to me and other dogs, im wary of them now
They are NOT toys to play with. And some of the random crossing going on can result in unreliable temperaments, too. I continue with them - but - there are real dangers.

I love big dogs but could never own one. My older dog is about 60lb and that’s big enough for me.
When I see the pictures of their incredible growth rates as puppies, I always wonder if they get growing pains from growing so fast?
A good vet (and a good dog food brand) will advise you on feeding rates so that they don't grow "too fast", and generally it's advised to wait to neuter a large-breed male until *at least* a year, so they can get that testosterone they need for proper growth. But, if I remember MY childhood correctly - they MUST get growing pains! XD Maybe all mammals do :O
