Sometimes the world feels like it’s against us. Like, when you accidentally rip off the precious pull tab while opening a can of beans or when you are trying to figure out where is the end, the top, and the side of the sheet when making a bed. To some aliens from outer space, it would likely sound like not that big of a deal, but trust us, tiny humans, it is.

But thanks to some clever minds who were blessed with powers of creativity and problem-solving skills, life could be made easier, hundreds of times easier. But wait, let’s not hype it up too much, and let’s see what smart solutions to everyday problems Bored Panda has rounded up this time.

From tactile paintings for the blind to reversible public benches, and something as simple as a discount for well-behaved kids, these little things give us hope that no matter what, we are all going to be fine. Psst! More clever ideas to ease the stress of handling daily things can be found in our previous posts here, here, and here.

Humans have been coming up with ideas since the dawn of time. Some have been stupid (well, let’s be honest, most of them), some have been life-changing. But generating a truly good idea is a job on its own that requires breaking one’s conventional thinking and making that holy light bulb appear. But how you do this?

Well, first, good ideas don’t come naturally. You have to engage in observation, do research, watch people, and reflect on what you’ve seen. Gather all the information you can and look for patterns. In this way, you may spot the problem that needs to be solved and this is the point where your brain gets stimulated.

Then, writing down the ideas, even the most absurd ones, is key. Think of how many bursts of thought we forget on a daily basis. Also, don’t worry about how the idea sounds initially. Picking the best ones is the second part of the job, but you only do this after you've got a solid list of ideas to work on.

Thirdly, remember that whatever it is that came to your mind, nothing’s impossible. Whether you dream of a business idea or a gadget that will change the world, accept the challenge you created for yourself and don’t be afraid it won’t work out.

Because even if it likely won’t save the planet, and you won’t become a second Steve Jobs, that doesn’t mean it won’t make our lives a tiny bit easier. And this is what we call an excellent idea turned reality.

When I was a waitress if I had a table of wild kids but the parents were trying and apologizing and on their knees trying to clean up their wild kids messes, I would knock off their drinks. At almost $2 a drink it adds up. They always notice and left a bigger tip because of not paying for drinks and the mess they made.

True, but not always. Sometimes kids will seem well behaved because they're too scared to act naturally. And sometimes they will seem spoilt because their parents let them express their feelings. It's not as simple as good parents -> good kids.

This would have meant so much to me during my child-rearing days. Not only would we been able to afford a better tip (always my embarrassment) but my kids would have gotten real encouragement for good behavior. Once or twice a waitress would give a complimentary hot cocoa or scoop of ice cream. It really made their day.

Once families know about this, the Ken and Karen parents will be complaining if they don't get it - whether or not deserving.

Mosheh Wolf

I am a big believer in kids being socialized by going to restaurants with parents, and I not only think that this is an EXCELLENT idea, but I also think that there should be a surcharge for families with kids who are especially obnoxious. For the record, our kid went with us to restaurant from toddlerhood, and we always made sure to be aware of their behavior. PS. If you take your toddler to a restaurant, ask to be seated near the entrance or near the kitchen. The former allows you to take the kid outside quickly, and the latter is the noisiest place(so a bit more noise from a chatty toddler won't be a big issue), and the most interesting for a toddler (which will keep them quiet). Close to the entrance and near the kitchen are also the least popular places for people looking for a quiet dinner). Also, don't take a young child to dinner late in the evening.

Though I understand the sentiment, you shouldn't get a reward for having well behaved kids... that is the expectation. Otherwise you don't take them to places you know they can't handle and you train them until they are ready, or you get a relative/sitter.

Potatogamers2

Okay and what counts as well behaved? What if a child has a meltdown due to a disorder? Bye bye discount? And those without children?

ilikeplants
Community Member

Having waited tables, I can almost guarantee that well-behaved equals not being the family that lets the kids throw food all over the floor and squeeze ketchup on the table without even attempting to stop them or clean it up because they have the "that's what the staff is for" mentality. It's more of a discount for well-behaved parents than well-behaved children. Those unruly families were rare, but once you experience it, it makes you really appreciate the kind, responsible ones. I would give them a discount in a heart beat.

Nobody's fined or paying extra. Just the normal regular price. Why do some people feel they're being cheated, if someone else gets a break (or a discount) for whatever reason?
