The concept and value of family is hardwired into the core of every human being. Yes, you may sometimes hate your older sibling for being mean or think your parents are unfair but at the end of the day, they still love you and you still love them.
Family is a life-long relationship, often times the longest one we have throughout our lives. Family has an immense impact on who we grow up to be in life. Above all, family is always that one special place where we can feel loved and safe from the sometimes terrifying world.
This is the kind of example that Damian Pighin and Ariel Vijarra are now showing to the world.
This is Olivia, daughter of Damian & Ariel

They are the first openly gay couple to be married in Santa Fe, Argentina, and currently the parents of two adopted young girls, Olivia and Victoria. Both Ariel and Damien work for an NGO that helps couples adopt unwanted children.

Damien and Ariel took Olivia into their family when she was just less than a month old.

The two gents waited around 3 years to adopt Olivia

After being rejected by 10 families because she was born with HIV, the couple received a phone call and were offered the chance to adopt her. They had been waiting about three years for this call.

The two gents had absolutely no doubts about this. As soon as they were able to hold and feed her without her even letting out a single cry, Damien and Ariel understood that there is a special connection.
Fortunately, Olivia’s treatment was successful, meaning that she can lead a normal life now

Olivia began treatment right away, showing positive results almost immediately. Soon, the parents received good news—tests showed that the virus was no longer detectable in her body.

Even though there is no cure for HIV as of now, this was still good news as it meant that Olivia would no longer have to suffer the negatives of the virus, nor would the virus be able to spread to others.

Since then, the couple has adopted a second girl named Victoria. The two young ladies are of similar age, turning 5 this year.
This is how the internet expressed their support for the lovely family of 4
...and what happens if people leave out their prejudices!

The Ukrainian government denied the adoption because Elton John was too old and homosexual. They thought it better for the poor kid to remain in the orphanage. I wonder what happened to him. He could have had such a wonderful life.
Evidently Elton helped the family move to a better neighbourhood and still supports them.

I had a friend who had HIV. Their mother had some drug problems when she was pregnant, and as a result they were born with it. Custody was given to the grandparents- my friend was very dear to me but had a very unhappy life in some ways, and eventually wound up doing bad things because of how difficult it was to have HIV and how that situation was handled, though I'm sure the grandparents did their best... My friend's life had a very sad ending. I hope this baby has a good home, and I hope the parents know it will be very challenging- but also potentially rewarding, beyond words. Hell, just give the baby a decent life- as much as you possibly can... Do your very best, and thank you.
These days it is possible to control HIV so well that people pretty much lead a normal life. I hope it works out that way for this little girl. I am so very sorry about your friend.

"Even though there is no cure for HIV as of now, this was still good news as it meant that Olivia would no longer have to suffer the negatives of the virus, nor would the virus be able to spread to others.". I dunno man, that sounds like a cure to me.
I might be wrong but I think that Olivia will still need to take medication for the rest of her life to keep the viral load down but - yes, almost as good as a cure. Come such a long way since the scary days of the 80s.

Children frequently "outgrow" HIV diagnosis: they're still technically living with HIV, but their viral load becomes undetectable and after a few years they are deemed "non-infectious."
she looks very cute. and I can proudly say that what you have done is so valuable. god bless you.
Really makes me question the motives of the 10 families that rejected that beautiful little girl. Hope this lovely family enjoys a wonderful life together.
Most people who adopt want an "ideal" child: healthy, beautiful... Not many people are willing to adopt a kid with a chronic illness, a malformation or a disability.

Love is a affair of the heart. These two gay couple had more live in their p inkies, than sme people would have in their life time. Those little babies with AIDS are the real victims on here. What happened to those two beautiful babies was nit their fault, and it is morbidious and sinical for anyone to punish them for it. In most instances babies that age with HIV can be completely cured with the disease. You don't have to take my word fir it, just ask any HIV/AIDS specialist and they would tell you exactly the same. These gay couple of heroes of the moments. They deserve thousands ofwords of aaccolades. We must all step in and open a foundations to collect money fir their cause and help those babies in their struggle to cope with the disease. Don't be so cocky and arrogant to think HIV/AIDS only happens to certain people in society. Anyone can be walking with that virus without even knowing it. My complete and undivided gratitude to these two amazing gay couple. God bless you.
If the world was a better place... it doesn't matter in the slightest to many of us and won't it be fantastic when one day it's not something that anyone would consider necessary to mention? However, being gay is still stigmatised in some countries, note they are the first openly gay couple to be married in Santa Fe, Argentina. So it's something to celebrate - that they were able to be married and adopt these beautiful children.

What a beautiful family you are. Gay or straight, love is love. You have given a little girl who was passed over numerous times the chance for a normal childhood and parents who love her. It made me think of this wonderful story about a wonderful gay couple who adopted 4 children with severe disabilities. The community wanted to help them out and built them a new specially adapted home. Sometimes, humans are great.
