This happened in Sweden in September 2019. She was burnt over 93% of her body (survival of 90+ is VERY rare). Against all odds, she survived. Kids were uninjured. She's doing fine as of today.

The treatment is often worse than the burns. 3rd degree burns don't hurt - because they've burned the nerves away (ugh). But the treatment to keep them uninfected as they heal is known to be incredibly painful or at least it was a couple of decades ago. I don't think, painwise, its improved much. A lot of people with burns over a large area express how, during the treatment, they wished they hadn't been saved because they're not sure they can bear the pain. If the ones who survive say that I can't help but think it contributes to the low survival rate - I wonder how many of the ones who don't live to talk about it just gave up because they didn't want to keep going through the daily treatments (not disparaging them for that). You have to really have a strong will to live as well as good treatment and luck to survive that kind of injury.

Communication is not just words. My dad rarely says the words, but he just spent almost a month helping me renovate my new apartment, working alone full days during the week while I had to go to work. That's love too.

That’s my Pop, too. When i was younger, a mumbled “love you too” was all i could hope for, and only when I could muster the confidence to say, “I love you”; my Pop seemed like a rather intimidating and serious man in my youth. But as i got older and got to really know my dad, he would never say much, but he showed me his love, and now I know he would travel to the ends the earth to protect or help me. ❤️ It’s not always about the words. My parents live about 30 mins away now and i try to visit w/ my 4 yr old as often as i can. Regardless of how long i stay, and regardless of the fact he’s relaxing in his chair playing online (free) poker and watching the news at the same time 😅 I never leave their house without giving him a hug and a kiss and an “i love you”. He never misses an opportunity now to beat me to punch. 😏 And i can tell by the tone of his voice and the smile on his face that it means the world to hom.

My dad was like that. He saved enough through his life, and work that he left me and my 3 sisters, enough money each, to help us do something That made our lives better. At 61, I just bought my first car, paid cash for it, because of my dad. And we all were able to buy or renovate our homes where it was needed. I know he looked down on us, and felt satisfied. Especially that none of us blew any of the money in stupid ways! The car I was driving, was a 19 yo Toyota RAV 4 with almost 300,000 miles on it! Thank you, dad. 😘

My dad was the same way for a very long time, I think by the time I was 30 I had heard him say I love you maybe two or three times, but he was always willing to go above and beyond to help fix my car or install something in my house or help me learn something new. He showed me that he loved me in a million different ways and it took me a while to realize that's what he was doing

When I was a teenager, my mom did the checking-up calls too. It never bothered me, and now that I'm older, I call her if I know she's going to be out late.
