Juliet or French balconies with glass-front are part of the most useless things in the world. If there at least was a metal-frame, so that the air went through the whole area, e.g. after hot summer days, when the night cools down. But this is just an annoying window :-D

Conceived in Persia and Egypt, the balcony had a specific ceremonial function, similar to that of the pulpit, which also was a hierarchical one: it made the presence of someone prevail over the masses underneath the balcony. But over time, the balcony and its older sibling, the terrace, took on new functions and purposes.
During the pandemic, for example, the balcony has solidified itself as a communal device. Remember when everyone was confined to their home as governments imposed strict lockdowns? Then you probably also remember when people rediscovered the balcony as a link to the outside world and a way to connect with their neighborhoods at a time of forced isolation.

Urban trees are generally not removed for fun. It could have been structurally unsound, in the way of utility work, etc.

In Western culture, the balcony has made quite a name for itself; one of the most famous and romantic scenes in Western literature, from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, was played out on this platform. Also, it was on a balcony in Cape Town where a newly-freed Nelson Mandela looked out upon the masses and promised a new chapter in history. And it is from a balcony in the Vatican where the Pope still blesses millions of believers each Sunday.
So does all of this mean you can make your balcony home to a fake horse skeleton? Probably not. But I can understand why it inspires you to express yourself.

With LED bulbs you can light your whole apartment up like a Christmas tree for about 80 watts. In a hot climate I'd be down with it.

The uncle of my dad was a taxodermist, this balcony looks a lot like his working room. He also met in his working room with friends for an early beer. Was a chill round between stuffed animals, shark-jaws etc.

Nope. This is in downtown Chicago. Those are official balconies, 100%. It's 'supposed' to mimic ripples in a stream or waterfall. They're as impractical in person as they are in a photo.

A lot of the fake balconies are most likely decorative elements. I did a google and "quora" said something about making homes look more luxurious. For larger buildings it's probably an architects choice of making the façade prettier or emphasize the "rhythm" in the design. That said, there seem to be a lot of useless AND horrid examples...
