I read about this happening as well. Also read that there wasn't any real 'guiding' involved as dogs can't really tell if the other one is blind. I know that won't be very popular, sorry, but having had a blind dog as well and seen her with three other dogs none of them could work out why she kept walking into them. The other dog can be trained to take the lead but it's not likely to be instinctive.

As much as we ove to imbue our dogs with al sorts of kindness, at the end of the day they are animals with instincts and their own communication. Most often we humans have no clue about the nuances going on between dogs. It i a nice story and I can survive that it is only haf true and didn't have a happy ending. I AM sad that a blind dog has to go back to the shelter. that must be so unbelievably hard.

actually the dog walking the blind one got hit by a car and died and the blind dane had a broken heart soon dieing after from the broken heart

In 24 hours or so you will hear "oow yip!" Because the sensation has to travel that long to reach brain.

Yes, cuz anyone who knows anything about Danes knows there can be fawn, blue, black, brindle (tiger-like stripes) merle or Harlequin (white with torn patches)...but not fawn with dark spots.

You need the same tools as a stable hand. No lie. A full sized leaf rake and a scoop shovel, and a 10 tine pitchfork. And a wheelbarrow.

Funny yet reminds of some great memories & even funny eventful times spent as a nanny for a very young baby & their 2 great danes. The Mother warned me they often would sit on the couch & that if 1 ever liked me enough which seemed to happen pretty quick, even after a few trial runs, was to ever sat on my lap & i couldn't get to the baby i was to say loudly "Get up! Up! Baby! Now!" smacking her loudly on the butt. One just loved me & often sat on lap but there never was a problem; thank goodness. Could even stroll him to the duck pond with both of those loyal, lovable guardians astride! Lovely dogs.
