I'm assuming you're not entirely familiar with the metric system... 1 teaspoon is 5ml, a tablespoon is 20ml, all "cups" and "spoons" have precise quantities. Also, in a typical set of kitchen measuring spoons or cups, they are all made to these precise measurements. So, although it may seem vague, it's actually very specific. Although handfuls and pinches....

Tablespoons, teaspoons, and cups are actual units of measure in the U.S. You buy a measuring cup, and it says "1/4 cup, 1/2 cup,1 cup etc etc. same with spoons. You buy a set that say "Tbsp., Tsp., 1/2 tsp. etc. etc. It makes it "easier" to measure out ounces. It would be nice if we get rid of this c**p and just use ounces and grams though.

Then you would be making a chemical compound, not a recipe. Cooking is a creative activity! I understand you, though. My father is a chemist, and he started making bread a year ago or so... At first he was so confused with the instructions! Things like "a spoonful" or "a little" infuriate him!

I'm a software engineer and I have this problem too. And fairly small hands. :(

you just choose one cup and one spoon and use it to measure every thing you use with that one chosen. This way you will get right proportions.

Why? Relax and read recipes for inspiration, then use whatever you happen to have at hand and enjoy the process.

Or they wont give the real recipe, yep, nobody wont give an authenthic delicious recipe, opening a restaurant seems more profitable and more reasonable, so keep trying figuring it out.

My husband is furloughed from a litigation support company. All the paper and electronic paperwork, the big board displays used in court, they do. Most of the clerical work related to cases is sent to them. A lot of lawyers wait until the last moment then send in 25 binders with a 100+ number tabs and a dozen custom tabs with over 300 pages in each binder and expect 30 exact copies first thing in the morning. After they sent the job in after 3 PM.

I changed jobs because of an employer doing this. They required us to take laptops on vacation “just in case”. Never had a vacation I didn’t work during.
