Misogyny, the term used to describe societal inequity, is evidenced by many everyday things, like the gendered wage gap, pink tax, lack of women in positions of power, and the unmistakable influence of patriarchy penetrating every level of our lives, from households to politics. Whether you’re being mansplained to or fall victim to the career-destroying prerogatives of men, it means that sadly, you’re no stranger to the ways misogynistic society operates.
But luckily there are many bright women and men out there who are not willing to put up with the sexist BS they witness or experience firsthand day to day. And out of the frustration, hilarious, spot-on, merciless, and witty comebacks are born to target any misogynistic remark.
Scroll down to read through the most entertaining comebacks below that will remind us we don’t have to stay silent when someone is being a jerk.

Some Words From Maisie Williams
Misogyny functions as an ideology or belief system that has accompanied patriarchal or male-dominated societies and continues to place women in subordinate positions with limited access to power and decision making. But thankfully, in present times, it’s not being taken lightly anymore as more and more women and men are willing to step up and challenge this ancient and inherently harmful belief.

Personally... Marriage Means Nothing To Me
But although the term has been all over the media in the past 5 years, its real meaning is still widely confused. Kate Manne, a Cornell philosophy professor and the author of “Down Girl: The Logic of Misogyny” argues that misogyny is really not about male hostility or hatred towards women, as it’s commonly assumed. Instead, it’s about controlling and punishing women who challenge male dominance.

It's Called Consent
I agree. The problem is that I also have to think before I go to a swimming pool alone with my 3 daughters. You can't even imagine the looks I get. Same story for my brother who once went to a hotel, booked one room for him and his 14 yo daughter, separate beds. Had to prove she was his daughter.
This is sad. It annoys me so much. People are busy looking for issues everywhere. Unfortunately, most people dont know what theyre looking for (signs of abuse etc) and so point at everyone and anyone. So sorry you fo through this.
Load More Replies...How and why is this new to many men? Do men actually like being touched randomly without consent? Do they like being catcalled and objectified while trying to shop for groceries in sweatpants?
Actually you only have to think once, and that is "Has this woman agreed to be touched by me?", and if the answer is No, you don't. Very easy, no need to think 10 times.
Don't get me wrong, I understand that it's hard to unlearn 5000 years of behavior, but you can do it.
I was taught about consent when I was a child, and I'm, let's just say, not young any more. There's should be nothing new or shocking about treating each other with respect!
Real decency would be when the women also has to think about this too. They cant just go around in the bar and touch men when they feel flirty too!!
Now if women would just extend the same decency to us, the world would be a safer place.
Do they think we're objects in a shop to be examined at will. 🙄 Talk about make privilege,😂.
It HAS gone too far in some cases. My son knows a woman who would talk about her "abuser". My son asked her about it at one point. She said that she was playing a game of D&D and some guy was having his character flirt with hers. She went along with it because "she didn't want to be murdered". At a D&D game. With friends. That is NOT SEXUAL ASSULAT. NOT SEXUAL ABUSE. She continues to refer to him as her "abuser". My son has heard three other similar stories. These women are in their late 20s, early 30s.
Uhm. Well it’s better to get fûcking consent rather than having intercourse without it. You think it’s romantic to have consent free sex?!

In an interview with Vox, Kate explained: “There’s a tendency to define misogyny as this deep hatred in the heart, harbored by men toward girls and women. I define misogyny as social systems or environments where women face hostility and hatred because they’re women in a man's world—a historical patriarchy.”
And what’s really alarming about misogyny is that it is something we practice almost unconsciously. The hostility towards women is something that’s a priori embedded in our culture where people internalize it through social norms and customs. In reality, it’s a trap for anyone born in an already misogyny-fueled society.

When Autocorrect Only Recognizes Male Achievements
This happens too much and needs to stop. We are not just wives, parents, children etc. We are individuals and should have our achievements shared as individuals and not because we are related to someone else famous.
According to Kate, such hostile behavior comes from the fact that many people feel attached to the positions they believe are their birthright. “When men think women are taking opportunities and privileges away from them, when they think women are challenging male dominance, you get backlash,” she explained.

Marriage And Feminism
As a way of dealing with misogyny in society, Kate believes it all comes down to men in positions of power accepting that women can surpass them without having wronged them. At this point, we are still far from this point, but externalizing our discontent is crucial in making things better, hence every debate, whether IRL or online, is a small step towards an equal, respectful society.
A Common Denominator
It reminds me of a joke. A guy goes to the doctor. "What's wrong?" the doctor asks. "I hurt all over my body" he says. "Show me exactly where it hurts" says the doctor. "Here, here, here, here and here". "Well, you should get that finger checked!!" hahaha
Boys Will Be Held Accountable For Their Actions
In the American South people will say "he's just being a good ol' boy!" and somehow that would excuse his heinous crimes. It just meant to me that he's "one of us" versus some evil person with slightly darker skin or who goes to a different church than we all do.

Accusations Ruin A Man's Life
I think the thing is that, in this case, these men had enough money and power to just make it go away, and the people that support them largely don't care about that stuff anyway. For those who don't have that money and power, accusations can ruin a life, but the way to solve that is to ensure that every accusation is correctly followed up on and necessary prosecutions made. Just saying "don't accuse" absolutely does not help, in fact it makes things worse.

The Link Between Guns, Police And Violence Against Women In America
Maybe half the police force in the US and many non developed countries. But not in most of the western world. We don't have a huge gun issue. EDIT: Since some people seem to have an issue of me only commenting on the gun part and not mentioning anything about domestic violence, well here is my stance. ANYONE who is a perpetrator of domestic violence deserve to be punished. The court system is an absolute joke in protecting victims and things need to change NOW. Too many people are dying at the hands of their "loved one" and something should have been done years ago. We keep hearing about perpetrators facing tougher punishments but it is yet to be seen. It is all talk and no action. And judges/parole board need to be held accountable for releasing repeat offenders. If the reoffender ends up killing someone, the judge/parole board have blood on their hands. Hopefully that satisfies some of you.

To the know it all who made a comment about nurse’s salaries, I use to work in collections for auto loans. A lot of nurses defaulted on their payments. I know this might come as a surprise but people, nurses have other bills to pay, many have children, and many are single mothers. Just because someone is a nurse doesn’t automatically equal wealthy.

Patriarchy Will Always Find A Way To Blame Women
How come it's always single mom and that is seen as a bad thing. If ever there is a single dad he's sung like a hero. Unless he goes with his baby girl to the ladies toilet to change the diaper (because the changing tables are if at all only in the ladies toilet), then he's a pervert.

Yep. So many women have been brain washed by the patriarchy and they don't see the irony of getting male support when they stand up against feminism. Honey, you're need for male approval is showing.

I think girls are also trained early to like being objectified. If you see girl magazines there's nothing with STEM or brilliance of the mind, always with how does your hair look or if this dress makes me fat. Baby outfits are already with sexual innuendos - watch out boys for this cutie etc.

I find the amount of pro-rape propaganda constantly coming from conservatives to be terrifying. That there's a whole huge segment of society who seems to be doing everything they can to be allowed to rape without consequence.

This. F*****g terrifying. (The book terrified me when I was Handmaid age. At least the women in the colonies have some freedom to be themselves. However, I never ever want to see us even think of pursuing that kind of path. Ever.)
When The Song Is Groovy But The Sentiment Is Just Not Right

Hope you are ok and that reply was epic. Did you get a shocked face response?

Yeah, I had a policewoman ask me that. But first, "Are you married?" I answered no, and she treated me as the enemy from then. Later I found out that it was because "Single and divorced women go around looking for sex", meaning I asked for it.

Men DONT respect women and men DO abuse women. Sure it’s not all men, but it’s enough to make any women walking alone fearful of what,or who, could pop out of the shadows and rape them. It’s enough for many young girls to wonder why their mommy is scared of daddy. It’s enough to leave an incredibly big impact on society. Also if you think there’s a “problem” with the fact that women want and deserve equal right then you are very VERY wrong. We do and it is very fair.
