A lot of the WTA players hold Andy Murray in high regard because of situations like this. He corrected a journalist in 2016 after he lost in the fourth round at Wimbledon, the journalist mentioned about it being the first time in a while since an American Player had made the quarters. Male said Murray. Male player. Reminding the journalist of Serena reaching the the quarters whilst a male American hadn't. When Murray said he was going to be in the mixed doubles in 2019, one player Who always played mixed with her brother was quite willing to dump him just to team up with Murray! He ended up playing with Serena.

Nope, this sexism was openly displayed in the UK when Andy Murray won Wimbledon and several major news outlets announced he was the first British person to win since Fred Perry - quite aware that Virginia Wade won the Ladies' in the 70s. EDIT: Since some people seem to have an issue of me only commenting on the gun part and not mentioning anything about domestic violence, well here is my stance. ANYONE who is a perpetrator of domestic violence deserve to be punished. The court system is an absolute joke in protecting victims and things need to change NOW. Too many people are dying at the hands of their "loved one" and something should have been done years ago. We keep hearing about perpetrators facing tougher punishments but it is yet to be seen. It is all talk and no action. And judges/parole board need to be held accountable for releasing repeat offenders. Imagine if more boys/men acted this way. After I was raped, my father asked what I was wearing, it was absolutely my fault. The captain of a small town police force refused to let an officer file a report acknowledging I was assaulted -- despite the hand shaped bruises and a note from the hospital explaining why they were certain I assaulted. As I was getting in my car he mocked my Warriors in Pink stickers. I looked him in the eye, "It is the breast cancer awareness group that got me through breast cancer." Jerk. Even with the report from the hospital and a lengthy report from the National Park Rangers, it was impossible to press charges. Willing to make a fool of myself to get attention, I did get a serious restraining order. He lived far away, we weren't married and didn't live together -- if this was difficult, imagine trying to file a report on your spouse. This was 2013. Important -- if law enforcement asks if you feel safe, be honest, no matter how uncomfortable it feels.
It is the good ole boys club. It is taking time for men to undnerstand they have to stop making excuses for unacceptable conduct.
