I have my maiden name b/c my hubby asked I not take his surname. As he said, he doesn't own me.
One of our Doctors got Married and said that she's not changing her registration name because it cost money and she can't be bothered with the paperwork.
I made sure my maiden name, which is now my middle name, was plainly printed on my diplomas, and announced at graduation (Eastern European and hard to pronounce and spell, had to explain it for forty years, married name just makes life easier).

Perfect! I never changed my name because I'm known by it in the art community. The whole idea of changing names is so antiquated. It made sense when women did not have any rights or could not own property - the last name made them part of their husband's family. But we live in the 21st century - come on already!
When I married, I took my husband's name. I added my maiden name as my second middle name. (I had a son that still had that name.) Unbeknownst to me until after the wedding, my husband added my maiden name as HIS second middle name, also. That was pretty incredible. Unfortunately, that was where the joy ended. (We divorced 4 years later, but I have to give it to him on that one!)

Who could have kept up with all her married names? Name any star of the past who failed to stay who she was no matter how many marriges. ANYONE who is a perpetrator of domestic violence deserve to be punished. The court system is an absolute joke in protecting victims and things need to change NOW. It is all talk and no action. And judges/parole board need to be held accountable for releasing repeat offenders. As I was getting in my car he mocked my Warriors in Pink stickers. I looked him in the eye, "It is the breast cancer awareness group that got me through breast cancer." Jerk. Even with the report from the hospital and a lengthy report from the National Park Rangers, it was impossible to press charges. Willing to make a fool of myself to get attention, I did get a serious restraining order. He lived far away, we weren't married and didn't live together -- if this was difficult, imagine trying to file a report on your spouse. This was 2013. Important -- if law enforcement asks if you feel safe, be honest, no matter how uncomfortable it feels.
